In theory I like this park. It’s a pretty environment and a great walk to get to. But with a 6 lb dog it’s hard to socialize even in the small dog park. Many dogs brought there are bigger than midsize dogs and intimidate and sometimes endanger my little guy, because they play aggressively. Despite him wanting to play with them and get to know them slowly, he eventually either barks aggressively to create space, which sets off a potentially dangerous response, or tries to dominate which is also not safe. And when I say too big I mean really too big for a small dog park, like 30 – 40 lbs. I also hope one day it has gravel or sand or more grass instead of mud and dirt. Otherwise I love Fort Tryon park and the walks and nature it provides. If your dog is big and makes friends fast it’s a great dog park for you

Friendly patrons with friendly dogs. Spacious. Two parts for big and small dogs. Bring your own bags. A few benches for sitting. Bring water for the dog.

If your dog is not one of the social butterflies and wants to poop and run in peace. Or, maybe you just want to watch and sit in peace without worrying about you or your dog being gnawed on then this is the place. Always maintained and green, even just being resodded recently, a nice alternative to the norm.

I am really happy with this dog park. It is big and apparantly very well maintained. Plenty of room to run around, clean and some shaded areas. Also love the security of the double gates and the separate area for small dogs. My dogs love jumping over the logs and running up and down the hills. As mentioned below, it would be good to have a water source, but that’s no big deal as long as you remember to bring your own.

Probably the largest dog run in Manhattan… with a little work it could be a great run in a unique park. Things it has going for it: — Separate large & small dog runs with separate entrances — Some shade — Very large run for Manhattan — Two entrances for the large dog area Things it has against it: — No bathrooms near run for humans — No poop bags — No water available in either run — Built on the side of a hill, so not level — Wood chips as ground cover but not enough laid down… dirt is exposed — Temporary fencing used in some areas — Limited seating for humans This run isn’t bad. Its big and dogs have room to really run. If the city brings in water, fixing fencing and installing some more seating would make this run a solid 4 star run in my opinion. Upgrade the ground cover and this is a possible 5 star run. Would go to again. Dog runs/parks I have been to so far:
