They denied to deliver to me because I was one street(literally 2 minute walk) outside of the delivery zone and when I asked If they could deliver to the perimeter of the zone and I could walk over to get it they again said no and suggested that I use postmates. The girl operating the phone was laughing the whole time and made be feel very unwelcomed, they don’t care much about the customer.

This is the best fried chicken I’ve had in years. Was absolutely cooked right, perfect amount of crispy and the chicken was juicy and delicious. The sides were all great and the watermelon lemonade is a winner! We made it in right before they closed the other night and the staff was so nice. New favorite!

So I went back a second time(previous review below) and the chicken was dry/overcooked. Definitely a 3-star experience. I could take the average but I’m going to go with my gut here and just give them what I think they deserve. That’s why you have to go to these places more than once before reviewing. — — — — — — — — — - Hate to stand out from the crowd but we had their rotisserie chicken and it’s as good as any I’ve ever had(and I’ve had a lot). Can’t say anything about their fried chicken, and I agree their prices are high for the portion size. But you can’t fake taste and this was top notch. That said, that’s just one visit(hey maybe they got lucky). We’ll try it again and I reserve the right to change this review up if things change.

Not too much to say here – food is ok. Solid C+. But wow there is no bigger rip off in the whole 14th Street corridor. Seriously tiny portions for the sides. I mean, very small – think sample size cupful and you’re close to what they charge $ 4.25 for. The chicken is small too – yeah they’re organic and all so that’s probably why – but that doesn’t explain why the ten dollar wrap was lettuce and tomatoes with what can only be described as ‘chicken bits’ here and there. Well at least in one half of this joke of a sandwich, that is. Cut in half it had zero chicken in one half. What a joke. Don’t go here – you’ll literally get more ANYWHERE else you can see for your $ 15 than you will from this non special hole in the wall.

Great place to order in from. Food is great and fresh. They really deserve 5 stars but they no longer deliver to my address so for that they lose a star. I guess that’s what happens when a good place gets too popular.

Spicy chicken burger is the bomb! Mac n cheese, mash potato, and rice were ok. The mac n cheese were the best. Their chicken is really good! Small place, not much room to eat inside, so I guess delivery is your best bet. We ordered one more chicken sandwich to go! Lol

The chicken at Dirty Bird is good. Not blow your mind good, but definitely a solid choice. The breading is well seasoned and crispy but the actual meat could be a tad juicier. Great place to grab a quick bite after work

KFC could easily outrun this place since the chicken here is just okay. The fried chicken has a hard, crispy crust and the meat inside is not that flavorful, and a tiny bit dry in some areas. The rotisserie chicken has a more flavorful meat but it’s outer skin is rather gummy. The sides were rather flavorless. The broccoli tasted mostly like it was just cooked in water, the garlic kale was even blander(not hint of garlic whatsoever.) The cornbread was browned and crispy on the outside, and okay on the inside, but it wasn’t fragrant. Overall, the food here is edible but bland all around. I do like that they sell Abita root beer though.

There’s a «To Go» in the name of this restaurant so I don’t feel bad judging it based on a Seamless delivery experience. I ordered a two piece meal to accompany a late Friday night at the office, where I attempted to finish my list of tasks at the end of a long week. I was successful at getting work done, although not particularly thanks to this place. There’s just so much more you can do with fried chicken, which could be crunchy or spicy or peppery or even all three. The chicken that arrived from Dirty Bird just sort of sat there. Even worse was my side of «rice and beans.» Was it my ignorance that made me thing I was going to get something like a spicy dirty rice? Either way, the slimy few beans I got on top of some dry rice were just terrible. On Seamless, there are hundreds of restaurants available to order in just a few clicks of the mouse. I won’t be making this choice again.

In a Metropolis of 8 million with hundreds of fried chicken spots to choose from, Dirty Bird is one of the best. As someone who knows her chicken, I don’t make this statement lightly; DB is on point with both elements crucial to a good piece of fried chicken; the meat and, of course, the skin. First, the meat; it’s perfectly seasoned so when you bite into it you taste just the right amount of salt which brings out the mild, delicious flavor of the chicken meat. I’m not sure if DB uses a dry or wet brine to season their meat, but whatever they’re doing it’s the bomb and they need to just keep on doing it. The meat is also melt-in-your mouth tender(I’m partial to dark meat, but I’ve also had DB’s white meat which is not in any way dry). Next, the skin; I’m going to be honest, I’m partial to DB’s chicken in a large part because of how they season their chicken skin — with a type of spiced salt. I love this approach of seasoning fried chicken skin as many of the corner chicken spots in Rochester, NY — where I grew up — used this method, so eating DB def triggers some nostalgia. Although DB’s chicken has a darker crust, it by no means tastes burnt and the rich, spiced flavor contrasts perfectly with the meat. Finally, the crunch on the skin, in my opinion, strikes the perfect balance — a bit crunchier than say the skin on a piece of Popeye’s chicken(just to use a comparative sample that most Unilocalers would have tried) but not too hard or dried out. To top it all of — I’ve been to DB probably 10 times, and every single time the chicken is consistently delicious as described above. This is super important. Quality of the food aside, the service /ambiance of DB is has also consistently impressed me. Although it’s only a tiny take out spot with a few tables(I frequent the Chelsea location) the place is always spotless clean. The counter staff is always super friendly and nice and I’ve never waited more than 5 to 10 minutes for my order. Truth be told I would come here if it was a dingy whole in the wall because the chicken is so bomb, but I def appreciate the cleanliness and niceness of the staff. In the summer months, I usually get my order take out and do a little picnic in Washington Square Park, which is only a short walk away. To sum it up: if you’re a chicken lover, hit up Dirty Bird — you won’t be disappointed and find yourself coming back for more!

This was 9 dollars. … Look I appreciate a good chicken sandwich joint with farm to table values. But this is still severely overpriced for a fast food chicken sandwich. Even for Manhattan. Fuck I think food at Cedar Point is cheaper. Get it together and stop ripping locals off. Maybe I’ll bump up a star.

Not the best fried chicken sandwich I’ve had(my standard litmus test at fried chicken establishments), but decent. The white cheddar mac and cheese hit the spot though and the prices were very reasonable. Now back to the sandwich… The chicken itself was fairly juicy and not at all dry, but the sandwich was a little bland. A bit too much iceberg lettuce too. Generally, I like a little hot sauce or some sort of flavoring option and this sandwich came with a dab of some sort of spicy mayo. Though unique, it was inferior to most fried chicken seasoning options I’ve had. The garlic kale was also underwhelming and a little overcooked. I know sautéed greens often have the tendency to be soggy, but kale can usually benefit from being a bit less well done. What’s more, the garlic flavor was present but not doing a whole lot — long story short, I’ve had much better kale. I’m curious to try the chicken tenders here! They look very tasty and likely have the capacity to out perform the chicken sandwich. With some creamy mac and Dirty Bird’s speedy service and delivery, there is definite potential for a satisfying meal.

Pretty much my favorite lunch special in the village. I always have one of the special options which is two pieces of fried dark meat chicken with a beverage choice and side dish such as seasonal vegetables. Today my vegetable side is zucchini and it really completes my much needed serving of fresh vegetables for the day. The end of the meal is a small hand packaged portion of two chocolate chip cookies, which are good and have a homemade feel and taste. Oh yeah, the main point of this place is that the chicken is humanly raised and not fed antibiotics to promote growth. Dirty Bird mainly does take out although there are a couple of tables to stay and eat in. The creative guys behind South Park claim this place is their favorite restaurant on earth by the way.

Split a whole chicken with a friend and a couple of sides. The chicken comes off the bone easily and is flavored well. The garlic kale is pretty good as well The staff was very friendly and gave suggestions. I definitely recommend this place

It’s lucky I usually just order delivery, because I have a hunch this little spot has a B rating more often than I care to think about. But their food is like crack, and I keep coming back no matter what. Huge white meat chicken tenders, buttery Mac and Cheese that would make Paula Deen grin, and delightfully tangy BBQ sauce. Yes they have more than that on their menu, but I’m a creature of habit, what can I say. The few times I’ve dined in have always been pleasant. They do a brisk takeout business, but you can usually find one of their tables free for eating in their small-ish space. And the staff is always friendly and ready to chat if you’re there dining solo. Don’t even hesitate with wondering if the«up charge» for picking Mac and Cheese as your meal’s side is worth it. Just trust me and know that it is.

This place is BOMB!!! So a friend introduce me to this place. I didn’t think much of it. Ordered half of chicken, mashed potatoes and M&C. I was blown away. I love chicken and I can tell when people take their time prep in it. So much flavor. I’ll be back.

Of course this place is on my to try fried chicken list. I was in the area on a Wednesday night for gym class. Unilocaled and this place happens to be just walking distance from my class so i decided to come give it a try. Dinner for one to go. I got the 2 piece dark meat that comes with one side. I picked the garlic kale. Kale was really blend, not much flavor. slightly disappointed. but i am all in for the fried chicken so that did not really matter. The chicken was juicy inside. Skin is not as crispy. reminds me of the KFC(normal fried chicken not the extra crispy type). Skin was good, and salty enough with herbs. but the inside was not much taste. However, the hot sauce does help. I like their hot sauce. Make sure you ask for it if you do take out since they don’t pack it for you I suppose. Overall i am torn between a 3.5−4. I want to give it a higher score but i think i’ve really had much better fried chicken in nyc. I would probably come back again. to try their other sides. Very easy for a take out, wait was very short and service was efficient. Cute little shop. I paid a total of around $ 11 for my dinner.

Disclaimer — I love fried chicken in any form from Popeyes + KFC + TJ’s chicken tenders to Gramercy Tavern and ABC Kitchen. DB is somewhere in between TJ’s and Popeyes. I order DB for delivery(many times) but lately I order 5 piece chicken fingers with a side of(vegan) coleslaw, garlic kale. Here is a bullet list — Mac and cheese — $ 4.50. No teeth, no salt and very creamy. Added some truffle salt at home and it elevated it to 5 star. Coleslaw — very much like a German coleslaw. Shredded cabbage with oil vinaigrette. $ 3.95 Mashed potatoes with gravy are consistently gloopy and salt less rather than fluffy and creamy. Two piece — chicken thigh and breast. Crispy. Perfectly done. A bit underspiced but clean. Sometimes too big and other times too small. Comes with a triangle of deep fried cornbread. $ 5.95 Chicken fingers — these are not your bowling alley fingers. The jalapeño vinegar is beyond delicious. Sometimes a little soggy and size of the fingers varies dramatically. Some of them are fingers others are pinkies. :) The chicken fingers are sometimes perfectly crispy and sometimes not, this usually happens because of the delivery. $ 9.50 The cornbread is not too sweet and perfectly fried. Yes, fried. Only comes with fried chicken not tenders. Kale — steamed and basic but good. $ 3.95 It’s more costly than KFC but you can taste the effort and care. Perhaps they can dedicate some of that attention to detail to portion sizes so you can count on it when ordering for a group. DB is good, just not fantastic. I feel like if you are paying on average $ 15 per order it should be closer to a restaurant quality meal.
