Is this place even open? I have lived in the neighborhood for the past 3 years and this corner bar with a ton of street traffic has either been closed or has drawn a crowd of 4. Solid job on the name change from Onyx to Cosmo. The largest steaming pile of shit by any other name is still a steaming pile of shit. Isnt there something that the neighborhood can use more than a closed bar? Perhaps an open bar? Restaurant? Dry Cleaners? Sweatshop? Front for a crime syndicate or money laundering operation? Tourist repellant factory? Ron Paul campaign headquarters? Anything that might be better than a closed bar. Please, do the neighborhood a favor and sell or open a decent bar or set fire for insurance money. Anything.

It was insanely crowded here. I stopped in for a drink and to use the bathroom while in the middle of bar hopping. I ended up actually being in the place for a bit because I couldn’t find the bathroom and my friend took forever. It wasn’t bad, it looked like fun but I couldn’t see anything and the music was so loud I thought I was in a small club(it was also really dark which added to the vibe). Maybe that’s its function, but I wasn’t into the crowd too much, it was way too typical of the area a block or two north(college, posers, popped collars, and a whole lot of naïveté).

This place is probably a fantastic venue for anyone who wants to chill with a semi-large group and avoid the snobby attitude one might face at the more pretentious places. The interior is decent, but relies a little to heavily on its blue ambient lighting. What makes things more difficult is how small the place really is, hence with the weekend crowds it can get pretty packed in here. The prices of the drinks were surprisingly very reasonable and after 15 drinks, the bill was only $ 75 with tip. The service was fantastic as well, no attitude of the door, generous drink sizes from the bartenders, and very polite demeanor from our cocktail waitress. If you can avoid the crowds, then Onyx is a great place to lounge and drink.
