Been closed for months. Really weird because people have talked about this place to me quite a few times recently and all are surprised to hear. I live down the street. Can assure everyone it is, and has been closed. Doesnt look like it will be re-opening because the sherrif’s eviction notice was prominently displayed. Was a decent neighborhood bar in it’s time tho.

On Dec 9th, 2014, I tried to meet a friend at The Room and it was closed, with some sign says it was being taken by legal possession. Bummer!

My buddy and I were looking to continue our after work fun and The Room popped up on Unilocal and off we went. He had been there before and he let me know that it was a cool spot but small. The bar was small, but what the bar lacked in square footage it made up for in beer selection. No cocktails, just beers(a lot of good beers) and wines(I know nothing about wine.) We managed to get two stools at the bar during our first beer and stayed for 2 more. I would come back but not with a group more than 4.

Weird… I’ve only written one review before this. I would say I’m an easy going guy — the 100 bars I’ve been before this I have been satisfied with the service. Tonight I came with 2 friends. I ordered a beer, as did they. Half way through my beer I received a phone call — I stepped outside to receive the call and when I came back in the beer was gone. I came back in and asked about my drink. Immediately I started getting ridiculed and accused of trying to steal a free drink. Anyone who knows me knows I’m not a dick — I buy lots of people drinks, a $ 5 drink doesn’t not mean more to me than friends. In fact I paid for all 3 of our drinks. I expected the bar tenders to say ‘sorry we thought you left, we will pour you another beer.‘ Instead the two girls at the bar went back and fourth saying things like«I didn’t serve you — she did, so it’s not my problem.» Or «We don’t stay in business by giving people free shit.» and«If we gave every asshole like you a free drink, we wouldn’t stay in business.» Etc. I swear on my grave that I don’t care about a $ 5 drink — it was about the principal. They messed up and then proceeded to treat me the customer like a criminal. I’m happy to show anyone who asks a history of 10 + years spent on dining/drinking out during my lifetime without a negative Unilocal review in order to try to show how big of BITCHES these Friday night girls were. I hope they get fired but they probably won’t. One was kind of cute, but looked to be holding on to her late 30’s without a husband — although she kept the bitchy attitude of a 21 year old. The other was a late 30’s girl who looked like a lesbian — and I am baffled as to where she picked up such a terrible attitude. Again I’m happy to show tax returns, charitable donations, past restaurant tips, bar expenditures, anything overt the past 10 years of my life to show I was a respectful and gracious patron. I have NEVER come across anyone CLOSE to being as stupid and horrible as these two uneducated r-tards.

For those of you who have never been there, the bar serves wine and beer only! There’s extensive list of beers and drafts, short list of whites and red. There’s a long bar on one side, and the lounge area on the other side of bar. it’s usually dimly lit, chill and relaxed ambiance, musics can get really loud later at night so it makes it hard to carry on a conversation, but it accomondates large groups. The bar is comfortable, drinks are reasonably priced. not sure they have happy hours cos I haven’t been there when there’s natural light out!

Enticed by the high ratings Unilocalers gave to The Room, my friends and I decided to check it out on a Friday evening after dinner. Down to earth little bar and lounge. No cocktails. Just beers and wines. No menu. Just neatly written scripts on blackboards. Solid selection of wines and beers with standard prices. I can appreciate the unpretentiousness. Little to no waiter service. Order at the bar. Glasses and bottles left on tables long after the previous patrons have left. Very dim inside — even the restroom was dim with light on. You can call it cozy, I’d say it’s small and noise confining. It was difficult to talk even just among three friends. The seats on window were probably the most redeeming aspect of The Room’s interior. Very nice for a warm, spring evening. Patrons in their 20s and 30s. Just friends hanging out.

Wait for it… should be called the No room. Actually what it lacks in space it makes up for in coziness, and a very knowledgeable bar tender. Great beer selection, great music at the right level for a conversation. Just a great place to hang out with friends. This is also were I started my first date with the wonderful woman who is now my girlfriend, so it truly holds a special place for me.

This is a dark and cozy bar with an intimate feel and charming brick walls atmosphere. The beer and drink selection is written on a giant chalkboard style menu in the back of the bar. I’ve always gotten beers here and have been able to try a great variety of new beers. You don’t come here for a Bud, Miller, or even Guinness, but they have everything from Blond, Belgium and Stouts. Often they have seasonal beers like a pumpkin ale, etc. The price of the beers is usually a couple/few dollars more than you might like, but not otherworldly, and always good. The space is very cozy and a great date space. There is a long comfy sofa on one side that inspires close side by side sitting, as well as a variety of bar chairs elsewhere. There are some cozy table style sitting around the window, where there is still a dark cozy atmosphere despite a close window. There are usually small candles lit all around the space. There is a small bar with about 6 – 7 stools, but they are often full with less adventurous enthusiasts. The bar seating is a great place to sit while you wait for your date though, where you can get versed in the drink selection or chat w/the friendly bar tender about good choices. Service is simple and personal, and the wait never seems bad even during busy times. Overall a great place to take a date, from first date to established relationship you want to get cozy with. The dark shadows inspire flirty kisses or even a little make-out if the night is right. I’ve come here a lot and hope to keep coming back over time.

It’s a beer and wine only place so no spirits and no cocktails. Pretty intimate setting and I was here on a friday night; I’d say the ambiance is definitely suited for dates. Good spot for conversations, or place to chill before/after dinner.

I enjoyed the room. Came here with some coworkers and had a good time. Did not want to slit my throat like most after work outings. Alex is a great bartender if your in the area stop by and try the large assortment of wine and beer with a side order of fun.

I’m not really sure why this place has such good reviews. They have a lot of different wines but is this really where I want to enjoy one? Some thoughts that were said out loud while drinking a beer. «I feel like I’m obtaining an STD sitting on this couch.» «I think I’ll rest my beer in the huge hole of the couch.» «I feel like I’m drinking in my garage.» «Do you want another drink? Eh… I guess I’ll get another glass of $ 12 rose.» Maybe it’s because I went during the day when it was light out still? But at the same time, I’m kinda happy I did go during the day when it was light out still.

What an awesome room! Thomas the owner epitomizes the kind of service we could use a lot more of in this country; thoughtful, up front, courteous, genuine. The Room is totally vibed-out. Couches, low stools, dark as the inside of a Guinness can. Hip tunes and some retro mix playing through a tight sounding PA system with studio near-fields for speakers. Open real late. Beer and wine only, but it’s a great place.

Leron’s Lesson: The Room is made for dates. Dim lighting, over priced wine and comfortable seating. Full Review: Stopped by the room recently and I was surprised at how intimate the whole place is. It’s all candle lighting, exposed bricks and couches. Your experience here will probably depend on whom you are there with because it’s designed to be all about your date/guest. I’d recommend to anyone who wants an intimate, dimly lit ambiance.

Um yea… so came here on a first date with a gentleman(his choice,) and let’s just say they could call this«The Make Out Room.» I felt like I was at a junior high party where everyone was all horny with new hormones rushing through their systems. I guess in these people’s cases it wasn’t hormones just a lot of wine. That being said, it made for a lot of interesting people watching and the ambiance is very romantic. We came on a Thursday night and it wasn’t overwhelmingly crowded, I would definitely return.

They should have called this place, «the dark room». This place is super dark! Lightly lit by candles everywhere. But there are more to this place than just dark. Good selection of beer on tap, craft bottled beer and wine. Two areas to chill; by the bar, hanging with the cool and hilarious bartender or to the other room where you can sit back and lounge up. Drinks are also priced reasonably, music can be a little loud, clean unisex bathroom and a little creepy arts. We had a big group of 18 – 20, that initially planned to go to Emmett’s for some chicago style pizza, but they cant fit us all so they recommended us to this place which was a great set up. Bartender welcomed us for food and helped cleaned up a little. Great place to hang out with a few friends earlier in the night. Now I want to check out the other«rooms» they offer.

Was browsing through the reviews and found this one dude who straight up wrote: «First of all, can I stab the people who didn’t know this place was beer/wine only?» …Sometimes I really wish you could post reviews in response to other people’s reviews. This place gets a 3 stars because it really was nothing special. The bartenders are friendly enough. The beer is ok. The wine is ok. Everything’s just ok. Which is why I can’t give it anything more than 3 stars. It’s not really good for small groups or big ones given how small the space is, but I guess it’s a good place to meet up with a couple friends if you’re ever in the area. Oh yea. I’m also griping cuz I asked for a champagne for the birthday girl and the bartender literally gave me the most expensive champagne they have. The hell man.

I first came here a decade ago, very late at night. A friend of mine promised it to be a perfectly chill bar, cushioned and candle-lit, with a large and well-selected beer list and a smaller but equally well-selected wine list, and great music – from indie hipster stuff to Radiohead to Britpop to rock classics, mostly all kinda moody but also kinda poppy, played loud enough that you can hear it and nod along to pieces you love, but not so loud that you have to shout to talk. My friend was right, and I remembered this place ever since. I’ve been here a handful of times since, and it re-affirms the memory every time. The only downside is that I think it gets crowded, so it’s an iffy proposition to come here with a group on a weekend evening. At off-peak hours, though, it can be invitingly empty and feels quite…(wait for it)… roomy.

It’s ‘tearing me apart’ how much I wish we had a bar like this in my neck of the woods. Fantastic beer selection. Comfy couches. Surprisingly clean bathrooms for a bar that’s only lit by candlelight. Just a very cool vibe. When I was there Friday night for happy hour the bartenders had a killer playlist going. A little Yo La Tengo. A little Film School. I like The Room a little bit better than The Other Room because it isn’t as deep(hence a little more outside light).

There are few times when a bar really makes an impact to your evening above a comparable bar somewhere else. In a recent visit to The Room, I had a fantastic experience due largely to the lounge area. I’ve been a long time fan of The Other Room. I was BLOWNAWAY by the Room. How did I not go here before! It’s so different than it’s West Village sister location. This is a stunning space, beautiful bar and lounge area, and it sits in a wonderful spot in Soho. It’s a great place to begin or end the night or frankly use as an in-between spot. The beers on tap were phenomenal and the staff was attentive and informed. My only complaint is that the wines are quite warm. Red should also be served at room temperature which by European standards is around sixty degrees. The wine was closer to 70 and just not as delicious as the right temperature would have delivered.
