Clinton Glass & Mirrors

Clinton Glass is a true gem. They have a terrific stock of mirror and glass and will cut to size for any home project. This charming shop is the real deal– a neighborhood fixture that offers a family run business with excellent customer service, value and high quality work. I’m a new but very happy customer!

I’ve talked with these people for over a week about replacing my window. They say they’ll call back and don’t; I call and make a little progress. Today I called and finally talked with the owner, who told me he doesn’t do windows in big buildings. A great waste of time!

This company is totally unreliable and the owner is obviously never there. Just to make an appointment to get measurements was like pulling teeth. They were supposed to come today at 9:00am. Never showed up. I called at 1:00 pm and was told that the boss would return around 3:00 pm and call. Never called. I wasted my entire day!

Called this place at 10am today for a quote on putting a mirror in a frame I already had. Was there at 11am with frame. Price was very fair (called other places to compare). Guy said it could be done same day and would call me when done. By 2pm I was picking up the mirror. Beautifully done with wiring/​hooks in the back as well. 2 staff members even helped me hail a cab afterwards.
This place is A+ I’m usually not a big stickler for service but they went above and beyond and also made a great quality product. Thank you.

This pop n’ son store has been a staple in the neighborhood for a while. Always reliable and available to attend to you. I got a glass window here once and on my way home carrying it it cracked. I went back and shamefully asked for another order of the same. As Bill Jr. Was about to charge me his pops (Bill Sr.) came out and told me «Don’t worry about it, it happens.» Now that’s customer service right there! Ever since then I always come back to the store even to just say a quick ‘hi’ to the Bills of Clinton (pun intended). Anyway, HIGHLY recommended! Now go do yourself a favor and look at yourself in the mirror; and if you don’t have a mirror to look at then you should be grabbing the phone and calling Clinton glass asap!

Customer service was non-​existent! I hope my experience is not typical:
Overall, they never met a single commitment they made to me, wasted a ton of my time (e.g., waiting around my apartment for measurements), and in the end backtracked on what they could /​couldn’t do. Read on if you want the details.
I came into the shop on 9^th Ave on April 20^th, 2013 (a Saturday) looking to have a textured glass partition and a sliding glass door installed in my studio (a 7′ x 9′ opening, not too complicated), to block off the bedroom area. We spent about 15 minutes describing the job, and going through one of his catalogs to pick the type of doors. I asked at the time if they do this type of work. Bill Sr. said yes, and so we made some glass selections from the back room. He took down my information and said he would call me on Monday to make arrangements to come out and measure.
Broken Commitment #1: Monday through Wednesday came and went. Nobody called. So I called them on Thursday and Bill Jr. said they were just busy that week and would call me back on Monday.
Broken Commitment #2: Monday and Tuesday the following week came and went. No call. So I called them on Wednesday that week. I was told my request must have fallen through the cracks. A woman (don’t know the name) promised someone would come out Thursday morning between 11:00 and 11:30.
Broken Commitment #3: I stayed home from work. Nobody called or showed up. Normally, by this time I would move on, but I’d already made my selections and didn’t want to have to start over somewhere else, especially since the other place in the neighborhood had worse reviews. So I called them Thursday at noon. While she actually apologized this time (finally), she promised to send someone at 3pm.
Broken Commitment #4: Nobody showed up again! I called at the end of the day to complain after taking the whole day away from work. More apologies, and another promise to send someone out the next morning. At this point I asked her straight away… «Do you not want my job? If so, I’d rather you tell me now or recommend someplace I could go, if the job is too hard. I’m beginning to think you don’t want it, but are afraid to tell me so.» They wanted it, she said, and she didn’t know why he didn’t show, but that she would personally see to it that someone would show up the next morning.
FINALLY, after waiting on and hounding this company for TWENTY DAYS, they had someone show up to take the measurements. We investigated two options… one in which the glass went to the ceiling, and one where it didn’t. He couldn’t provide the two quotes… Bill Sr. had to do that. So I asked when that would be. By the middle of next week (this is the week of May 13^th now) they would get back with a quote, I was told.
More broken commitments: Bill Sr. didn’t call (shocking, I know) the entire week. So Saturday rolls around and I call to find out what happened to my quote. Bill Sr. answered and said «Oh, yeah! I meant to call you because we don’t do that type of work. It’s too big of a job for us since it goes all the way to the ceiling.» Now I’m just mad… but I figure the guy that took the measurements must have failed to communicate back to the store that I don’t necessarily need the glass to go all the way to the ceiling, and that perhaps the job isn’t too big after all. So I try to speak, but Bill Sr. raises his voice to speak over me and tell me «No. I’m sorry, but I can’t do that big a job.» So I raise my voice to try to ask him if it matters that I don’t need it to go to the ceiling. This goes back and forth until we are in a full-​blown SHOUTING MATCH. And finally he yells «WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME!!!». «I WANT YOU TO LISTEN FOR 15 SECONDS SO THAT I CAN ASK YOU A QUESTION!!!», I replied. After letting me ask my question, he confirmed that the job was still too big. If that was the case, he should have said that the first time I came in to describe the job! Or when I called and asked if it was too complicated. Or when they came out to measure. Or the minute that Bill Sr. saw the measurements and didn’t think he could do it.
I know what you’re thinking… maybe this customer was an unreasonable or rude jerk and that’s why they didn’t want the job. I assure you, the only time I lost my cool was when Bill Sr. was yelling at me. Prior to that, I had TOO MUCH patience through the entire process, never letting my emotions even show. I only explained (calmly) that it was frustrating to me to have to stay home from work and have them miss appointments.
Do not work with these people unless you need a mirror installed or something small. Not only to they not deserve the business, they don’t seem to have even the most basic capabilities (e.g., don’t YELL at your customer that is trying to ask questions to find a way to BUY SOMETHING FROM YOU) to handle anything requiring a modicum of customer service.
A WASTE OF 28 DAYS! Now starting over.

Bill and his team installed 85 ft of wall-​to-​wall 7’x4’s mirrors in 1 day for my dance studio that came out fantastic! It took him and a team of 2 guys about 5 hours max to do the job. I must say that at first I was skeptical about doing business here because of a negative review I saw online, but because of the location and the proximity to my business I gave it a shot. The first day I went in, Bill Jr showed me some inventory and I was happy to see that they had the kind of mirror in stock that I wanted (quarter-​inch thick mirrors), but Bill sr wasn’t around to give me a quote. They called me back later that day with a quote as promised.
So I made a deposit, and was really crossing my fingers as I needed the mirrors installed within 1-​week for the studio’s grand opening. This absolutely could not fail. That was on a Thursday when I made the deposit and negotiated with Bill that the mirrors had to be installed by Thursday of the next week. Sure enough, Bill had the mirrors delivered on time the following Wednesday and installed the next day on Thursday. Great job! Bill and his son are very nice and very helpful, and my first impression is that if they say they will do something they will live up to their word and do it, which was huge for me hence the 5-​stars. I would definitely recommend.
By the way, I had previously purchased glassless mirrors from another company, which I thought would be great because of the cheaper price and the lower weight, but instead I got stuck with punctured and scratched mirrors. Avoid glassless mirrors and go with the real thing if you’re running any kind of business open to the public. Glassless mirrors are so thin they will scratch, tear, smear and puncture badly and once they scratch or puncture, it’s over. Pay the extra price and go with real glass.

Craftsmanship was good, but they don’t offer much in the way of advice for colors, matting style, etc.
So if you know exactly what you want, this place offers decent framing at lower prices than other people in the area.

Had a broken mirror replaced on a door.
The owner, Bill is very nice, and gave us a great deal.
They even finished the job in two days (other places quoted a much higher price and said it would take two weeks).
Very happy with the work, and would use them again if the need arose.
