Stopped by Café Grumpy to warm up before heading to the Tenement Museum. Excellent coffee(note: no syrup flavors), just the right amount of caffeine & was pleasantly surprised they had several gluten free pastry options! The GF donut was really tasty. Friendly & fast service(not grumpy at all). Why not 5 stars? Because only 2 bar stools in the entire tiny café but luckily we snagged the window seat to enjoy our drinks. Good place to get coffee to go!

Café Grumpy NY Manhattan Chinatown 1:30pm Thursday 17th December 2015 Five Stars Located on Essex across from Sewards Park in Chinatown, Café Grumpy is a truly great little coffee shop. It’s small with two bar stools and a 2 – 3 person window seat. The Cure was playing when I walked in from the rain which was fitting. They use their own brand of coffee roasted in Greenpoint Brooklyn. I had a small cappuccino($ 4). It was served in an orange ceramic mug with a foam heart. Their espresso was bold with grapefruit and caramel notes. There is an amazing lingering bitterness that sticks to your tongue. The foam was thicker and sweeter. There was very little steamed milk which I liked. The barista was friendly and grumpy face logo is a great brand.

Elated that there was a Grumpy so close to where I was staying — coffee was on point, it’s tiny inside but so lovely. Sat at the bar in the early AM enjoying a delicious & perfectly made soy cappuccino. Thanks Grumpy, no matter which of your locations I go to I’m always so happy I’ve visited.

Great coffee and friendly baristas. Very small space but they do have two outdoor benches. Latte — $ 4.50

Stopped by on a Saturday morning for a quick bite to eat(not a coffee drinker). The place is small but cute(I really liked their logo), and they had several types of pastries. I got a croissant which was good, but I wish they had a toaster to heat it up for me really quickly.

The espresso at Café Grumpy is great. The staff at Café Grumpy, are well… grumpy. I started coming in here to try something different in the area and on my first run I was quite pleased. My cappuccino(iced) was smooth and of the perfect strength. Second day I came in to get the same drink, and they attempted to charge me a $ 1 more(this was a sin on top of the already astronomical price of $ 4 for a cappuccino). Essentially they were charging me $ 1 for ice, and to NOT froth the milk, which they don’t do with any of their iced drinks(I know this is preference and each shoppe does it differently). The guy behind the counter was neither here nor there when I was shocked by the price tag(be reminded this is $ 5 for 1 shot with milk and ice in a small/medium cup). I was too embarrassed to say I paid something different the day before, in fears of looking cheap – instead they’ll just lose my business. There’s tons of other places in the area that will make you feel more welcomed and be less picky about what they’re serving you(I know purists, I’m sorry). My apologies that I am not willing to spend a $ 1 on ice*… *Sometimes.

this café has several locations throughout the city. Every drink is made with the same care and love and in this small shop on the lower east side is no exception. Their cold brew iced pairs very well a heart breaker espresso to made a wonder iced Red Eye. Left caffeinated and very happy like always.

Great coffee! A little bit on the pricey side but I guess they had a lot of exposure after Girls made them famous. It would be great if there was some seating in the shop but it’s definitely a to go coffee spot. I usually go here to grab a bag to go and just make it for the week or two at home.

i alternate between their $ 3.7510 oz decaf pour-over and Duncan Donuts’ Large 20 oz(?) for $ 2.25. Such is the decaffeinated life.

Café Grumpy is a innovating cute coffee place located in LES. Which is couple blocks from where I live, I could use some coffee during the cold winter. Or I could spend sometime in here reading my book. The music is cheerful and it’s exactly what I wanted to hear at the moment, since thanksgiving and Christmas is arriving soon. I am kind of enjoyed a place is not too crowded, and no one would disturb you! I might start coming here more often!

apparently this café has been open since 2011, in my neighborhood, and I only stumbled upon this place today. really really good lattes– and the latte art is beautiful as well– didn’t get a chance to snap a picture though. the baristas are very nice and one of them convinced me to get an almond croissant, claiming it is «the best dessert out of the bunch». It surely was, crunchy and flaky on the outside with an almond filling– yum!

I’ve always enjoyed Café Grumpy. The coffee is still 5 stars but I’m really sad they shut down their bakery program. Which is why this review is just 4 stars. They used to have this amazing guava tart. Definitely gonna miss that.

I’ve been to this particular Café Grumpy a couple times now– it’s a tight little coffee shop with very friendly baristas. I always only get iced coffees, since I’m boring, and they always do an excellent job here– the brew tastes great! They accept cash /cards, no minimums. Not exactly a lot of room– I think there’s only three seats maximum here. It’s an extremely tight space. They have little yummies too– pastries, muffins and the like. I’ve had the muffins a few times now and they make for a nice little snack. Helps if you come grumpy.

I had but a meager iced coffee, which was smooth and delightful! My friend, a coffee pro, had a pour over and loved it. The barista was very friendly and indulged my friend in a convo about coffee filters. Thank goodness I had some delicious coffee to entertain me!

I stopped by here with a lady I met and had some coffee with her. She seemed to have enjoyed her cappuccino here. I don’t know why the café is called«grumpy» but I guess their coffee is supposed to make grumpy people feel better. I don’t really have much to say, but I thought I had some wonderful and fresh coffee at this place. I had this coffee imported from Ethiopia called Chire, which has some kumquat fruit in it. I thought the flavor was really good, mixing it with some cream and sugar also made this cup a wonderful coffee. I also had some Blueberry Hibiscus Iced Tea, and I thought it was very refreshing, had a juicy flavor, and was not too sweet or bitter. This place is not really a café, it’s more like a place where you grab your coffee and leave for someplace else, though there’s a bench outside, and a couple of chairs. The guy who worked there at that time seemed to be very friendly. Overall, I thought I had some pretty good coffee, and I think this place has a lot of potential to serve some great coffee in a city like New York.

Not a huge coffee-drinker but LOVEEEE the Flat White here! So creamy and delicious, and the barista certainly seemed to know what he was doing. It’s a tiny place with not much seating, but maybe that adds to its charm a little bit. Also got a pastry here which was delicious.

This place is only a few blocks from work and play, so I am so lucky that it is here. I’ve become more selective about coffee now. Must be that I am getting old. No longer does burnt coffee satisfy my soul anymore. This place pours an excellent coffee and I have never regretted my visits. The place is small, so it can seat two people at the coffee bar, and two more by the window. They offer some pastries, but nothing vegan I could discern. The baristas are always friendly, willing to chat and cheer you up. I came in here one afternoon after an awful dentist visit and the barista immediately made me smile. He understood the pain of visiting a dentist. I mean who likes it when a person decides to rape your mouth for 45 minutes or more? He was also Asian and quite handsome too. Ah, gotta love the good coffee and eye candy that NYC has to offer!

My favorite spot, here everyday, literally multiple times throughout the day. Love the staff coolest people, super sweet & I’m not taking about their baked goods… yet. Their bakery is insane. I’ve tried it all, you haven’t had nothing until you’ve walked in my shoes… Lemon bread, banana bread, corn muffins, pecan cookies, bundt cake muffin, brownies, chocolate chunk chip something. The list goes on duh! Love, Soy latte & americano
