I am an avid Blue Mercury shopper back home. So I was excited to see one in NYC! I had purchased some makeup the first day of my trip and a lovely saleswomen Lakea helped me. I returned to purchase hair care the following day– I realized I forgot my shampoo. The sales girl was so rude… and it turns out she was the Manager. Mary… I will be sending a formal complaint into corporate. Get rid of Mary– she is not up to the Blue Mercury Standard!

I have been to this bluemercury location a few times in the last month and EACHTIME, the staff has been amazing. top notch customer service. I used to live closer to the other uws location(in the 80s) and stopped shopping there because each time I was there I was made to feel like I was invisible. skeptical, I decided to give this location(92nd st) a chance and I am thrilled that I did. I’m so happy to have a conveniently located 1 stop beauty shop near me.

I’ve been here more times than I can count — usually for my essentials(shampoo/conditioner, concealer, eyeliner). I’ve always preferred Blue Mercury to Sephora, so I’m biased in that way. Even with that bias, I’m going to be honest if an employee is rude to me. Customer service jobs — especially in NYC — are not for the faint of heart. I don’t envy anyone in that industry. But if you’re being rude/neglectful, you’re just not doing your job. But this has NOT been my experience here. I’m going to give a shout out to two people here: the sales associate Mary, and the woman who has showed me how to use a couple of Laura Mercier products I bought a while back what feels like countless times, because eye shadow confuses the hell out of me. I’m giving the second woman a shout out mostly because when I came back to ask for a demo, she actually remembered that she had showed me before. If that’s not attentiveness then I don’t know what is. And Mary — she’s a complete gem. Obviously I’m in the minority here, because I thoroughly enjoy making small talk with sales associates. I think most people want to get in and get out as quickly as possible. A few days ago, I woke up in a sour mood. Not for any particular reason, but that’s life sometimes. I went to Blue Mercury while I was still in this state, and I hear«Hi!!!» behind the sales associate who I originally asked for help. There was Mary, exuding genuine positivity. She helped me with a few things there maybe a month or two ago(we chatted for quite a while that time), and she immediately remembered me upon my return. It completely turned my day around. Obviously not everyone is going to have this type of interaction with sales associates at a high-end makeup store, but in my case, I have nothing but good things to say. One note about this particular Blue Mercury location: it’s quite a bit smaller than the others in the city. I’m a candle addict, and Blue Mercury carries THE best candles out there. This stores has some of my favorite brands(Nest, Lafco) but not all(I’m also a fan of Fresh, Tocca, others…). If you want a bigger selection, you’re better off going to the 84th street location — they have every kind of candle you could possible want.

Avoid this store! Their staff is condescending and rude. I had an issue with an employee who took and held a bottle away from me that I opened to make sure it smelled ok(I’ve had an issue with this particular product going bad in the past). She told me I was spilling the product(2 drops on the side of a 33 oz bottle) to which I answered, oh that’s ok I’m going to purchase it. She grabbed it from me and said she was going to clean it. She then would not return the product to me. I asked to purchase it and she scolded me saying«the one you opened IS the LASTONE left(I understand, GIVE it to me so I can purchase it) Ugh. She then had another employee ring me up and walked through an employee door. I called the store a few minutes later to complain about her behavior because she didn’t give me the chance to address her. The employee on the line kept interrupting me. I had to tell her to stop and listen to the full complaint before responding. I’m not a child, why are you keeping the product away from me, why are you scolding me, and why don’t you hold your employees accountable for their behavior. Disgusting.
