I stopped by for a quick snack and to see what black sushi was all about-the cashier told me it was organic and healthier for you. Black sushi is a smaller area of a larger restaurant Kodama sushi. It is their take-out area. If you choose to sit down, they will direct you into the restaurant. The express area is very small with refrigerated cases on one side containing sushi and beverages. The counter area has the sushi preparers and cashier. There is a small counter sitting area opposite this. The sushi i got was freshly prepared and delicious. The cashier was accommodating and answered all my questions. The black sushi rice is somewhat of a purple color. It is reasonably priced and i would recommend and return.

I came here during lunch when it wasn’t too busy. The to go portion of the restaurant was out of California Rolls so the kind ladies working in the front directed me to the back of the restaurant where I could custom order sushi to go. I went to the back and ordered my California Roll. The waitstaff was very nice and my food was prepared quickly and packed to go with chopsticks, soy sauce, and napkins. Awesome! The California Roll was delicious! Just the right amount of crunchy(I hate mushy sushi). I think this is my new go to sushi spot! I’m interested to try their sushi with black rice next.

There are three types of rices to choose from: regular white rice, brown rice and black rice. I’ve ordered the Broadway Bento box and it was a lot of food. It comes with soup and salad first and then the big Bento box. The California roll was alright, I liked the shumai more. The tempura shrimp and vegetables are freshly made. The teriyaki chicken was really flavorful, but it is just a bit dry. It also comes with tempura fish, which was drizzled with spicy mayo sauce to give it a little kick to it. Overall, the service and food was pretty good.

The quality of sushi is, okay. Not bad, not nobu. Certainly edible. Packaged sushi is half off after 10:00pm, and they have green tea kit-kats!

This place is cute, with a full functioning restaurant operating under a different name in the back and Black Sushi, a to-go sushi place, acting like a Japanese market, in the front. The location is prime, busy 8th avenue, easily accessible by Subway, located close enough to all of the Broadway Theaters. I wasn’t able to sit down to eat, so I got a California Roll to go. All of their sushi was fresh, from what I observed, looking at a variety of their colorful rolls. They do have other Japanese products here, including some appetizers and drinks, but their main revenue is off of sushi(pre-made.) I wasn’t able to try anything interesting, since I was in a rush, so I settled for a California roll. They were nicely made, rolled up tight, perfect balance of crab, avocado, and cucumber. The roll was served with 8 large piece for a reasonable price of $ 5.50. This is a tremendous deal, the sushi was yummy, but the cost is that you need to find somewhere to eat it fresh.

My girlfriend and I were hungry and wanted to eat something quick before a concert featuring a Japanese band. We ran into the Black Sushi organic place as we were weighing our options. It’s a nice looking little place where you eat and take out at the front and the restaurant is at the back of the place. She had the shrimp shumai and I had the spicy pork with white rice. The service was very nice and very quick. The eating area was very nice, and I know I’m using the word«nice» too much already, but I actually can not find more words in my mind right now. The food was delicious. The salad was fresh, the pork was flavorful with the right amount of spice. The rice was drenched with the flavor of the pork and the spiciness. Overall it was just very good. If there was a small complaint it wad the portion was a little on the small side, but that’s more of a nitpick. My girlfriend was very satisfied with her food as well. All in all, a very, well, nice place with great food, perfect for pre-concert or Broadway play eating.

Passed by and decided to try their black sushi. It was empty outside and was told by this lady that I could grab some ready sushi outside or I’ll have to order inside. Yup there’s this whole crowded place inside with sushi bar. I was standing and had no idea where to order my takeout and saw this man I had to ask to place order. He took my order and asked me to just take a sit so I asked if I have to pay first. He then said just give me a second it’s very busy here just sit and wait wherever or come back later. What a great service they have there at least talk nicely? The lady by the entrance was nice and friendly though.

Take out up front, restaurant in the back and they will automatically suggest the restaurant when they run out of prepared sushi in the refrigerated cases. Reminds me of Dainobu/M2M Japanese grocery but with a restaurant and a large dining area. Usually, anything with black rice is really expensive. I have to say my refrigerated ‘Healthy Mix’ black rice sushi was very good and reasonable. It came with spicy tuna on top of one roll, a Shrimp Tempura Roll and a California Roll with eel on top, 15 pc for $ 13.50. The staff isn’t extremely nice and they seem to eat whatever they want for dinner. Um, can I work here… Yum! My only advice is to let people know there’s a restaurant in the back and make the take out seating smaller. Plus, have better music. It went from techno to the soundtrack of Grease.

This place suck. In take out part. Ramen noodles for $ 9.50.they use instant noodles to make ramen. I can make at home. And dumpling pork and dumpling shrimp also frozen is not fresh. Better make at home. No need to come here. I paid for almost $ 16. For instant noodles . Better go somewhere else. Only sushi is fresh. Please make sure if you want to come here to eat. I hope it helping someone. Is not healthy place. Service is good.

This will not be my final review and I will have to be update this at a later time. After spotting this place I had my mind set on trying it out after seeing the beautiful pictures of the food on Unilocal and there website. There main feature of the Sushi place was the Black Rice(forbidden rice). I walk in the place and it is clean with nice Japanese decorations all over the place. They also have plenty of seating in the back. The inside was like I was transported to another place from the dumpy 8th avenue corner next to a Chicken Ranch place the shop is located at. I’m not a big Sushi fan, yet, but I wanted to try the that black rice and asked for’ Black Rice Salmon teriyaki’ bento box. But was told that, that they had no salmon ready other than the rolls and cut piece that are prepackage that they pointed to and have for sale also. I then ask for the Shrimp tempura, but they said no shrimp. One of the Sushi chef pointing to the back and was trying to tell to sit in the back dining room and have lunch there. I guess he was trying to make up for my disappointment by preparing something extra that I would like, but I felt let down already and was also bothered that I was the only customer in the place at 1;00PM. I don’t know what was going on, maybe they had trouble today in getting their fresh fish deliveries, I don’t know but I try again sometime in the future and to have that black rice.
