This is a real neighborhood gem. Dave runs a great restaurant; good food and friendly service. He has worked hard to survive the subway construction and will continue to be the favorite place in this neighborhood for years to come. Chris, Paul, Laura and the rest of the staff are top notch. They help make Beach Café what it is today.

Came here for brunch with my sister. The brunch special $ 19.95 for entrée + 3 drinks is a good deal. Especially since you can switch drinks, unlike some places where you have to stick with one. 10 – 15 minute wait for outdoor seating wasn’t bad, though we went at 3 so if wasn’t during rush times. The food was good, I got the green eggs and ham(Benedict with spinach) and my sister got the huevos rancheros. My two complaints: While I was waiting at the bar for the seating, I ordered a Bloody Mary assuming it was part of the brunch deal. Found out after it wasn’t. It was written on the way bottom of the menu(which of course I didn’t see), but I do wish the bartender had mentioned that. I’ve always found that if you order at the bar while waiting for a seat, they can charge it to your table. So warning! My second was the busser and the waiter were not very pleasant. The waiter got annoyed at us when we accidentally ordered drinks from the busser(we didn’t realize that he was, so that was our fault) and then tried to tell us that we had already had 6 drinks when we only had 3. Also they were in far too much of a rush to take our plates(which I’ve noticed is an issue at most restaurants now). It said that during rush hours they only give patrons 1.5 hours per table, but it was definitely not rush time.

I’ve passed this restaurant many times and decided to try it for lunch. The all kale Caesar salad was delicious but not worth $ 9.50. It was very small, more like an appetizer. My daughter ordered the tuna sliders. They were good, but only two sliders and it came with super salty tortilla chips. Again, not worth $ 11.50. The most shocking price was the coffee. We ordered two regular coffees. Nothing fancy or difficult to make. It was very strong diner coffee, and, $ 4.00 each! I would go back here, but WILLNOT order coffee!

The main hit is fabulous burgers, Cobb salad, great bar and drinks. It’s an old timey warm and inviting décor comfortable for a leisurely meal, wonderful outside eating area on 70th side street so little noise. owner appears very attentive and caring and really tries to please. They had a very difficult time combatting the Second Ave subway construction and really tried to do interesting special things to accommodate.

DON’T BOTHER! We went for the brunch on a Saturday. The food was MEDIOCRE at best, and overpriced for what they gave you. The service was generally inattentive. And the final killer was $ 4.00 for a cup of coffee. I won’t be back; there are lots of better cheaper places in Manhattan.

Strolled into this restaurant while looking for another place(was good back up plan). The beach theme is a bit confusing, but it works out nicely. I enjoyed the burger I had with fries, must say the fries were the right amount of crispiness. The service was great. Waiter was attentive, kept asking if my best friend and I were doing okay. Constantly filling our glasses with water. He even did us the favor of putting our dead phones to charge, which was very much appreciated. Overall place was what we needed, food left us stuffed and we were able to get great service.

I don’t really get the beach theme here, but hey, whatever. The PROS: There is an awesomely large outdoor seating area where you can easily have a large party(10 – 14 people). The service is fantastic and very family friendly. The interior décor is also great and there are multiple large restrooms which is nice. The CONS: The food is relatively mediocre but fairly overpriced. Most of the entrees are around $ 20/plate for pretty standard fare(burgers, pasta, pizza). The food is not bad, but it seems overpriced. I do feel bad that this restaurant has probably lost business recently because of all the local construction on the 2nd Ave Subway line. I think if there were in a more well-trafficked area, they’d probably do much better! I think I’ll try to come back again and try the brunch special — sounds like a good deal!

On my way to the East 70th Street Lenox Hill Post Office, I photographed what the Beach Café did ONTHEOUTSIDEOFTHERESTAURANT& I RESPECTTHEIRSHOWOFSOLIDARITYWITHFRANCEATTHISVERYDIFFICULTTIME. Please see the photo. For this act of kindness, compassion & support, I will be dining at The Beach Café as soon as I can. I haven’t been in in years, but I shall go out of my way to support this café for their show of support to France. As another Unilocal Reviewer noted, due to the construction of the Second Ave Subway, it is important for us to try & do business with the local shops & businesses along 2nd Ave – it has not been easy for them. See my photo of the Beach Café’s show of solidarity to France.

Who knew this place was right around the corner all this time? Brunch and three drinks for $ 19.95? You can’t beat that on the UES. The food is good, the drinks were substantial and the staff was incredibly friendly. The regular menu is odd and I still don’t understand the beach theme but it’s a great neighborhood joint and will absolutely be a new«go to» Besides, it’s important to support all the business along 2nd Avenue that are getting their butts kicked by the subway construction.

Love this place! Delicious food and great atmosphere. In the summer you can sit outside of you want. The staff is always accommodating and friendly. It’s also totally handicapped accessible.

Came here for Sunday brunch and was less than impressed. Beach Café’s décor comes across as confusing and somewhat outdated. I can’t say what type of theme they’re going for, but the whole«beach» element left much to be desired. The atmosphere is almost depressing as another had mentioned before, taking into account the restaurant itself and the construction going on directly in front. In regards to the food, there was not much to say either. I chose the breakfast sandwich and sweet potato fries — the sandwich was rather bland and forgettable, while the fries were flavorful, but too greasy. Perhaps the other brunch options were more memorable. A positive to my experience, however, was the boozy brunch special — their bellinis are delicious and strong. Ultimately the drinks made my experience a lot brighter than it actually was; I wouldn’t go out of my way to return.

3.5 Solid spot, if I lived closer I’d be a regular. The food is old school bar /diner style but has a GREAT $ 1 oyster/clam/shrimp happy hour. My fish sammich for lunch was simple yet excellent(think fried fish fillet in a burger bun with pickle, tomato and onion) $ 11 no chips(fries) incl. The wine pour is huge(YUUUGE says The Donald) and pretty tasty. Staff are great, very friendly and attentive, the clientele is mostly older folk. UES classic — if I ever stumble upon some excellent on the menu I could easily see this as being a 4 star spot.

We visited this restaurant for lunch. With the construction of the second avenue subway, this restaurant seems to have a dark atmosphere. When we ask about the lunch selections, we were surprised to find that the burger comes without fries. Fries were a side on the menu. We ask if we can get white meat chicken on the salad rather than dark meat. They stated it comes as a mix of dark and white meat. I ordered the Baby Kale Salad for lunch and I was amazed how small the salad portion that was served. Mediocre food at best. This is the first and last time we will ever visit this place.

I don’t usually write bad reviews since I work in the restaurant industry however, I felt taken advantage of by this place. This place is stuck in the past. It is dark and cluttered inside. The tables are nice and the music is calming and soft. However, When I entered a tall man in a suit and glasses seemed shaken that someone had arrived to dine and bruskly waved me to a table. What a mess. Charmless and rude. The food is ehh. Way over priced for the crap that it is. I work in a fine dining restaurant and don’t mind paying top dollar for good food. But this food is bar food at best. I ordered the fish sandwich for $ 10.50. The fish was fine a little oily though and served on a basic hamburger bun. No salad no fries. For $ 10.50?!? I get that it’s on the upper east side but come. Lower the prices for the quality you serve or serve better food. Bad business and Totally disappointing. I ordered a side of waffles fries for $ 6. They were undercooked and made from frozen fries. The staff was kind and efficient… The best part of the place.
