Random, mediocre crowd, curt and no-nonsense staff. Very much lacking in warmth or charm. All Bar Veloce locations seem to look for bartenders who can make every customer feel inadequate and not quite up to snuff on wine knowledge, Italian pronunciation, etc. Either they ignore you or its attitude central

So. Walked into Bar Veloce in Chelsea this evening. Have to say. For a local Wine Bar. It’s fantastic. It’s a neighborhood gem! Me and my friends just love this place. And. Jesse our Bar Tender is incredibly knowledgeable with wine. Really good at it. So. Why not just stop in for a really nice glass of chilled Rose. Ohh and while you’re ordering. Why not say Hi to Jesse. Cheers!

Great wine selection, either by the glass or the bottle. Great place to bring a date, or with a small group of friends. Did not try the food, but maybe next time.

I love this place! The atmosphere is so cozy and welcoming. The staff are very helpful. I’m not much of a wine drinker but they took their time and helped me find something I would enjoy. They also have a great selection of cocktails too! Their Lemon Sky was the perfect drink to complement the early spring weather we’ve had lately. And when you’re feeling a bit peckish, their panini hit the spot. I can’t think of a better way to have spent a relaxing Saturday night out. A great place for wine drinkers and non-wine drinkers alike.

I went to this wine bar last night for drinks with my date. It has cozy and romantic atmosphere. The bartender, Jessie offered incredible service. If I would, I’ll come back just for the fantastic service I received. Drinks included a variety of wine selection and cocktails. I would highly recommended this place if you want to spend a chill night with friends or significant other.

Disrespectful and bad management service. See my comment in the check in section. Manager with the mustache was unecessarily rude. We didnt feel welcome here.

This is my first review on Unilocal ever, but this bar really deserves it because they have the most disrespectful and rude employees I’ve ever experienced in my not so short life. Not to mention they didn’t have 95% of the food items on their menu. Do yourself a favor and never set foot in this place. I would give them 0 star if it was possible on the system.

Don’t waste your time. The staff is rude and incompetent. Only one bartender with a silly mustache more suited for Brooklyn. Unless you are a sadist with a penchant for bad service and dirty bathrooms, I suggest you visit one of the many other places in the neighborhood. In fact, I’d sooner drink a box of wine with one of the local homeless before returning to this overrated and cheesy establishment. Heck, I’d even share a straw.

Cozy, quiet, casual, dimly lit and romantic on a late weekend evening.(Enough positive adjectives for you?) We were just strolling by and decided to drop in. Good decision. The Grilled Cheese was so-so though.

I didn’t know that bars with rude and bad service still existed in NY. Luckily Bar Veloce is here

A wine bar which seems to bring in the ladies. I can go with that. Stopped by briefly this evening. No beer on tap but a well thought out cocktail program and an extensive wine list. I had a Campari Americano which was very nice. Background music was set low — something jazzy — not pop. Bartender was very professional. Pretty place. Worth a try if you are in the neighborhood. Not a place to go if you want a beer.

Bartender was super rude to my entire party. The guy looked down upon us because we weren’t wine experted and didn’t know what we wanted to order as soon as we walked in. He also said it would be an hour for food if we wanted it.

I stumbled into this place, enticed by the«Prosecco Happy Hour» sign, which was great! I also had a prosciutto and truffle panini that was so delicious I’m still dreaming about it. Plus, the bartender was wonderful – friendly and attentive. They only lose a star because of the bathroom soap dispensers: those old, unsanitary, bulb-shaped ones with a metal dispenser that you have to press your dirty hand into to get the soap out. The place is otherwise clean and sparkling!

Outstanding wine bar with a wonderful ambiance. The cheese and meat plates are also fantastic and well worth the price!

Meh… that was my thought as I left this wine bar last night. Place is ok for the neighborhood, but not great when compared to much better wine bars like Anfora, Terroir, Lelabar, Corkbuzz & Vin Sur Vingt. Maybe it’s cause I’m a Sommelier(for fun) and I’m very picky, but I thought their wine list was just ok, and frankly, fairly pricey for the quality of the wine & food. I understand it’s an Italian wine bar and only serve Italian wines, and they had some of the better regions represented like Piedmont(Barolo & Barbaresco) and Alto Adige, and had a decent selection of Brunello, and was surprised that they actually had Franciacorta(sparkling made in the Champagne-style, not like Prosecco), but it’s just that the wines they had from those regions were not from great producers, which is reflected in the wine quality, in my opinion. And as far as the food, I thought it was just ok as well. The Bruschetta Veloce(white anchovy, mozzarella & pesto) was pretty good, but didn’t blow me out of the water like Anfora’s Ricotta Bruschetta, as well as the truffle cheese panini, and the ham & cheese finger sandwich was plain white bread with the crust removed with ham, cheese(couldn’t taste the cheese) and tomato(see my pic). Wasn’t flavorful, and frankly, really dull. Basically felt like a 10-yr old in grade school eating a sandwich out of a Ziploc bag that my mom made for me. The ambiance is very good though actually and so is the service. Overall, this place is a good spot for the neighborhood if you don’t feel like going very far and just want to grab some wine in a nice setting. Better than other wine options in the neighborhood, but not as good as other wine bars in the city.

Love the rat pack like vibe of this place. Reasonable prices. Great food, especially if you’re a fan of prosciutto and mozzarella. The bar man, Doug, is as knowledgable as they come about the great variety of wines on the menu. This is a must go to whenever I’m in Chelsea!

Great little wine bar. Met up with some friends for a bday, only stayed for about 2 glasses of vino but had a nice time while I was there.

GREAT casual low-key wine bar in Chelsea. Perfect casual date spot or a place to meet friends for a drink. Great wine list but limited table space. Small menu– but hits the spot.(Cheese plates, small salads, panini) Definitely a place to check out.

One of my favorite spots in the city(partly, I must admit, for sentimental reasons, but still…). Superb list of wines and cocktails, good choice of appetizers to go with your drinks, knowledgeable staff, nice ambiance. What else would you want, really?

Nice low-key wine bar — small and casual. The bartender gave me an excellent recommendation for a white that I would absolutely order again. Also, they have a carbonated red wine on the menu, which I think is super unique and it was oddly refreshing.

This is a nice low-key wine bar. I stopped in with friends about two weeks ago on a Friday evening, had a glass of a slightly fizzy red wine(really interesting and refreshing) and we shared a little bowl of tasty green olives. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed. I’ll have to take my hubby there on a date!

Small, intimate atmosphere. Everything’s right by the street on 7th Ave, so at first like I was outside. Fortunately was able to get one of the few tables, near the back. Friendly service. Good wine selection. Fair prices. Most importantly, the«Clasico Panini». WOW. One of the best sandwiches that I’ve ever had.

On the rush of a high that follows the conclusion of Sleep No More, I needed to find a low-key place to unwind over a good glass of wine and a little food. Though I was suspicious of any sleek spot in Chelsea fitting that particular bill(especially post-Pride) Bar Veloce ended up being an excellent choice. Though the décor and seats were a bit Euro-cool for my taste, the evening was nevertheless comfortable. What’s better than a generous meat and cheese platter, an arugula salad dressed with just-right proportions of lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and parmesan, and a deep Italian wine list with generous pours? Pretty much nothing, except for the lovely gentleman behind the bar. It’s rare to get sophisticated, subdued, and elegant service in my corner of the Pacific Northwest; it’s the sometime-aspect of dining out in NYC that I love, and he made a casual night feel exalted. Wine pours are generous, the by-the-glass list is strong, and that’s just what I need to mentally note this addition to my list of dependable wine bars for my next NYC visit.

I went into Bar Veloce last night — it is very conveniently located in Chelsea. The reviews lauded the Mozzarella but I had already eaten and wasn’t planning on ordering. When you walk into the place the basil/mozzarella smell hits you in the face — and it’s a beautiful thing. The barman was very pleasant, I had two glasses of Pinot Noir and my date went with Pinot Grigio. The place had lovely décor with a romantic and cozy atmosphere(which surprised me being that is it facing 7th Ave.) I did indeed try the Piatto Mozzarella and was glad I did. It was probably the best I’ve ever had and that is saying a lot. I’m Italian, I cook Italian food, I go to good Italian restaurants, and I’ve been to Italy recently. Are those sufficient Mozzarella credentials? Great place to catch a casual glass of wine with a significant other or friend. I’ll be going back for sure.

Been going to this place for years. Years ago I found this joint pricey. The pours were mediocre but the wines were always great. Fast forward to the extremely expensive neighborhood that Chelsea is now and Bar Veloce almost seems like a bargain. It’s not as crowded either which is a plus. The paninis are amazing and so are their cheese plates.
