Awesome place for Japanese food and live jazz music. Came here on a double date and it was a pretty intimate setting, even when the live jazz was playing. The food was not bad — fried chicken tatsua was suurprisingly good, smoked tuna sashimi(was eh, could have done without), shishito peppers were good. I would recommend this place if your date likes jazz and decent food.

Cocktails? Good Jazzy music? Good Service? Great! The waiters/bartenders are very accommodating. You can also request a reservation on their website. It is a little tucked away. You have to go down the stairs and open the door, and hello cozy little bar. I don’t like to yell to have a conversation with someone sitting inches from me, so it’s no wonder I like their relaxed and low-key atmosphere. Their booths are comfy. I also enjoy sitting at the bar and watching them create amazing cocktails. The ‘Groovy’($ 14) shiso leaf cocktail is very light and refreshing. The ‘Enigma’($ 15) is also light and somewhat vegetal. I love the lychee martini($ 15), which is great when I’m in the mood for something sweet. They also have great fried chicken tatsuta($ 10). I need to come back for happy hour one of these days.

Bb(B Flat Bar) NY Manhattan Tribeca 5pm Friday 1st January 2016 Five Stars Update This is an amazing bar. The bartenders are most skilled in the city. Their Japanese precision extends to how they hand you menu. On National holidays, Sunday’s, and After 11pm they serve ramen. You have to choose between hr Classic Tonkotsu($ 10) or Spicy Miso($ 11). I ordered the latter with a seasoned egg($ 2) with Happy Hour Priced New York Sour($ 9). The cocktail was well balanced and delicious. The ramen was equally good. The broth was thick, fatty, and porky with a medium amount of oil. It wasn’t very spicy but had little kick. The noodles were thin with hardy quality. The ground pork was salty and tender. The two egg halves were 90% hard boiled with sweet, soy seasoning. The shaved scallions, jew’s ear mushrooms, chili strands, and sesame seeds rounded out the flavor. Overall, a very enjoyable hangover meal. Jazz on Monday and Wednesday.

Cool little jazz club in TriBeCa with a Japanese inspired menu. Somehow it all works. I had a cocktail named«Air Mail» which was delicious and not terribly priced by Manhattan standards. The bar is small which made me initially concerned about being able to talk over the jazz three piece that was setting up an electric guitar, piano, and full drum kit behind our booth. The band kept the volume at just the right level where they were providing entertainment and ambiance without preventing conversation. We might have had to raise our voices a little but at least we didn’t have to yell. Will definitely keep this in the rotation of recommendations to visitors.

I really wanted to like this place but nothing about it was good. The entire restaurant was very small so when we sat at the only two bar stools, we had to smell the bathrooms behind us. Totally gross. The bartender didn’t acknowledge us after more than ten minutes of us waiting(and we were the only patrons who hadn’t been served). Once we did flag him down he was very unfriendly. The food was horrendous! Don’t eat here. It’s a weird mix of Asian junk/bar food that just doesn’t work. Linguine with squid and a spicy roe sauce? Omg. No. The band was quite horrible as well. I’m so bummed out that I have to write this review but I just want go warn people so they don’t have the same experience. Please avoid.

A nice classic cocktail bar. The live jazz can be nice, although if you sit directly next to the musicians it can be a little loud. A calm and sophisticated place. One bartender was very creative and went off menu for a few cocktails. The other bartender was either shy or new. I will definitely be back since every cocktail we had was well made.

First time at the bar and although it was a bit difficult to find, it was definitely worth the walk! They specialize in Japanese whiskey which I think is a novelty in NYC. The bar has a speakeasy feel to it with the lighting and ambiance. I would definitely recommend it for dates or nights out with close friends.

Sexy. The kind of place I enjoy having a drink alone. Or entertaining company who I don’t know well. Who I want to know me better. Need a first date? Need to woo a client? Tiny intimate joint with live music some nights.

This place is great, it’s tucked away under a Japanese restaurant and is a fusion of American lounge with Japanese cuisine. The cocktails are great, honestly, the bar tender is amazing to watch. He’s very elegant with his movements, makes mixing drinks look like a dance. I got the ramen($ 10!!) and really enjoyed it. It doesn’t get overly crowded or loud so you can keep a decent conversation going through out the night.

Good, except for the asshole bartender working on Friday night at 11pm. So much attitude. He probably spit in my food. I hope he gets fired. Everyone else was nice. Most Japanese people are very respectful, but I hope he was having a terrible day. Because This crap service is unacceptable.

Small cosy place. We only had drinks at the bar. The appetizers were good. The cocktails are unique and well crafted. Kind of romantic. Also good with small groups.

Good vibe — speakeasy feel. Small and narrow, but great cocktails for sure. Limited draft list, but prices are more than reasonable. Their happy hour prices seemed very reasonable on both food and drinks end. Will definitely come back during their show times.

This place is a spot you come if you want a well crafted drink and to listen to some good jazz music. I loved the atmosphere, and the entrance. The complexity of drinks was very nice. It has a Japanese flare to the drinks. One of the drinks has plum wine which was really good.

The drinks here are so unique, which I love. I tried the Enigma and Central Park West, which were both gin-based drinks that were complicated, delicious, and strong. I especially liked the Enigma because it had such a refreshing cucumber scent. Oddly enough though, the cocktails here are satisfying and tasty but not really irresistible, which was good because they lasted for a long time and made for good conversation. But that also means I don’t really crave the taste, which is why I’m not sure I would frequent this bar even though it was a good experience. Ambience-wise, this place has a very old, saloon-y vibe. There’s wood paneling and jazz playing. It’s quite spacious and not too packed with people. It’s located on a very quiet street with no obvious sign on the outside besides the number 277. When you walk in, you see the Bflat sign directly downstairs. Had a great experience here, but the vibe is a little too chill for me and the area in general is a little more dead than I would prefer. Not sure I would go out of my way to come back here, but would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a more relaxed place to have some very well-made and different cocktails!

One of my favorite places in the city. They have amazing cocktails crafted by those meticulous Japanese mixologists. There’s live jazz here some days of the week which I love. The food here is also delicious. I have to admit that at this point, I’m almost convinced that the Japanese are masters at running bars and restaurants. Their people are just so naturally accommodating. Everyone is über polite. No one ever yells at you. Everyone does their job«like it’s their job». Service is always top notch. They don’t bitch and moan. The food and drinks are always made with attention to detail. I could go on and on, but you get the point. Irish bars may have great beer, but they usually act like they don’t need your money, which trust me, is not the case. They just really suck at customer service. In any case, in a city that needs another cocktail bar like it needs a hurricane, I am glad that B flat is keeping the standards high.

Located along a strip of Church Street that is becoming bartender’s row, B Flat is riding the speakeasy /lounge trend with a musical accent. As I look through other reviews, I like Caroline K’s description in that: It’s not too loud You’ll find something nice to sip It has space between tables B Flat is, for me, a place where I would return for a particular type of evening or be selective about taking others.

Pretty cool place! I’m a fan of spacious places where you can actually hold a decent conversation without resorting to sign language. I’m not surprised that many of the bartenders had their stint at Angel’s Share. It’s one of those places where you can play roulette with the drink menu and you’ll end up with something good, no matter what. I was kind of hammered when I walked out of here after 4 drinks. My favorite was the Enigma. I’d stay away from the food though. Their rigatoni bolognese tasted like pure plastic to me.

I loved this small basement nook. The drinks were cheap during and after happy hour, though there martini glasses are small and I was disappointed in the weak taste. The HH fried chicken(mixed) was excellent. The fries were perfect and the peppers were awesomely spicy. The potato wrapped shrimp was just okay and the fish sandwich wasn’t my favorite, neither was the green tea soufflé though I could have had many bowls of the vanilla ice cream. I simply loved the low key vibe. The service was attentive and great.

A co-worker recommended spot to meet some of my friends in from Atlanta. So great! There was ample space, the drinks were delicious and they have wonderful happy hour specials. My one complaint is that when we had to go the waiter went kind of MIA with the check. Def go, go during happy hour, hang out and enjoy. Also, it’s not where it says it is on Unilocal. If the hotel in the triangle is directly behind you, it’s not on the street immediately to the left, it’s the one diagonal to your left. Hope that made sense!!!

I still believe that Angel’s Share crafts the best cocktails I’ve yet to find in the city, so B Flat had long been on my to-do list, given the fact that many of the bartenders are ex-employees from Angel’s Share. There’s an air of secrecy about the space as the venue is located down a dark flight of stairs marked only by the«Burlesque» sign that hangs overhead. What greets guests at the end of those stairs a pared-down, darkened room that has a row of stools against the bar, as well as a number of booth seats against the walls. Arriving earlier during the evening allows guests to take advantage of their attractive happy hour, which includes a handful of discounted cocktails and small plates. The drinks available span across a solid variety of liquors, and the Japanese influences are noted in additions such as shiso-infused vodka, yuzu, and plum wine in a few of these creations. Beware the Aviation: on paper, it looks innocuous, but a glass of it has a potent dose of Beefeater Gin, Maraschino liquor, and lemon juice. It had me eyeing the edibles for the evening, in hopes that it would slightly counter the alcohol. The Scallops are lightly seared in hot oil, served in a citrus-soy blend, and are topped with scallions. Although I ‘m usually a fan of this protein, it was bland and the texture a little too gelatinous for my liking. Thankfully, the French Fries, generously portioned and served piping hot, were much more satisfactory. We had multiple orders of the Tatsutaage as well. The lowly fried chicken is done to justice at B Flat, where it’s fried in a garlic-infused potato starch batter and paired with an addictive citrus mayo. If there is a signature dish at B Flat, this would be the one to take that title. What more do I need to say? Come after a long day of work, with a few friends, or with, perhaps, that one other person you’re looking to impress. The drinks are creative and surprisingly potent, the food goes far above the typical bar food one might expect, and the preponderance of jazz music, either live[1] or played throughout the audio system, makes it the perfect place to linger. Just don’t blame me when you arrive expecting to stay two hours, and wind up staying out past your curfew. – [1] B Flat also doubles as a jazz lounge on some evenings, so arriving later in the night will afford the opportunity to listen to live music. Note that it can get pretty loud as the acoustics of the venue aren’t ideally prepared for this, so it’s not the best time to try and have a conversation with your companion(s).
