While going out to lunch with my friends one day I spotted Akami sushi and decided to try it out. My experience there was unpleasant and not memorable whatsoever. portion size is small and unreasonably priced and Akami has only a B grade sushi. Now before you judge me to harshly about going into a sushi place with a B grade I should mention my stupid mistake of ignoring the health inspectors sign. Overall I would not recommend Akami to really anyone. Though it is not the worst place I have ever been to it was just very forgettable because of its bland waiters and generic atmosphere.

This restaurant is a disgrace to the whole area of the upper east side. The food was not fresh(not to mention the B grade) and not only is the fish of bad quality the chicken is stringy and disgusting. Generic atmosphere definitely not a place I would recommend. Ps I would rather vote for Donald Trump then return to this disgrace

Note: This review is only for delivery! This is a pretty standard sushi spot. I ordered the kani salad and the tom yum soup. The tom yum soup is said to come with veggies, shrimp and scallops. For the pint, i got just 2 shrimp, some largely chopped garlic, and a shit ton of mushrooms. The broth almost tasted like tea, not what i would expect for typical tom yum soup. The kani salad was actually pretty good and more than what i expected. I’ll likely try someone of the other japanese places in the area before ordering from here again. Delivery was fast though!

Ok experience. Our waitress as pretty unfriendly and rushed the meal. I got a lunch box with miso soup and salad. The salad was skimpy, 2 leaves drenched in dressing. Most likely won’t be back.

Food was basic my party had teriyaki chicken tofu and sushi. It took my hunger away and I pretty much enjoyed the miso more than my entrée. The place was empty and we still waited 30 minutes to leave. I like food to wow me, and this place didn’t. Bland customer service. Please smile.

This is one of the worst sushi experiences that I have ever had. We got our order 30 minutes after they said it should be delivered(which was 1 hour) and didn’t even receive any of our sushi! Just got the salads, soups and soy sauces. When we called they told us that it was busy so now we have to wait more. Finally the sushi came and it is smelly, mushy and tastes like the fish has been out for a week. I am not a picky person, mistakes happen but there is NO way I even feel safe ordering the sushi, or anything from here for that matter.

I wish there were a zero star option but there isn’t. I went there for out to lunch and waited for 45 minutes and finally got two out of four dishes. My friends didn’t not get their food. When I asked the server when the food was coming she said it was almost done. We have to get back to school by 12:30 but the food never came so we had to leave. Also they already paid for their food and were starving. But we had to leave in order to make it back in time. Additionally, their food is not plated well. For example I saw an order go out that was supposed to be avocado sushi but I saw a pile of rice, seaweed and avocado all mixed and jumbled up together. That did not look appetizing. I would recommend not coming here. Unless you want to be disappointed.

I travel a lot for work and whenever I’m in NYC for work I make sure to stop at my favorite sushi place in NYC. Friendly staff family own restaurant. They have the most affordable price around the block. Can’t wait till I go back for my next visit. Sushi heaven

Nothing special, run of the mill sushi joint. Only come in for lunch as work nearby. Lunch specials competively priced for sushi. $ 9-$ 14. Good selection ranging from sushi/sashimi combos, udon, bento boxes, rolls.

This is my new favorite place for two reasons: 1. There’s more menu variety — especially in the appetizers and salads — than other sushi joints in the area. 2. The sashimi rolls! If you’re trying to stay low-carb, and are tired of the standard naruto roll, these options are FANTASTIC. I’ve never seen these at any other restaurant. There are about ten different sashimi rolls available, and I hope Akami will add some more to the list! Other notes: tuna dumpling is creative, salmon skin salad is good(has seaweed salad and sliced cucumber mixed in), and each delivery order comes with a nice assortment of fruit.

Don’t do it! We ordered food and waited, and waited, waited! Almost two hours later the food arrives and there forgot half the order. The delivery person could not speak any English at all, and it took us another half hour trying to explain the problem. Just the worst experience ever.

Whenever I visit NYC I always make sure I stop by my favorite sushi joint in NYC. They have the freshest fish and the best price all around. This little spot in upper Manhattan is by the far the best sushi I had in years.

I have had a lot of bad sushi in my life. I grew up in Puerto Rico eating super market sushi. I’m not sure if it had ever been a live fish. And yet, to my absolute shock this was the absolute worst sushi I’ve ever had. Literally the moment we opened our take out, there was a group consensus that it would be a risk to our health to eat the tuna sashimi because it was half brown. The salmon was okay. I’ll update if I get horrible food poisoning because it’s really 50⁄50 right now.

Great ambiance, friendly waitstaff, and most importantly, delicious sushi. I ordered pork gyoza as an appetizer, and Spider and Tiger Rolls for my meal, and it was all fantastic. Will definitely be coming back.

I love this place. It recently opened up here so i tried it out. The sushi is prepared fresh daily by the owner Andy who I has a good time getting to know at the sushi bar. He spent over 5 years of his life studying with matters in Japan. It definitely shows in the rolls. The minute you walk in the staff and owner immediately greet you. I feel they want me to be as happy as possible. I waited 5 minutes and I got my chirashi. It was a large portion. Delicious. No other way to describe it.

Recently Akita Sushi closed down and another Sushi place opened in its place. Their décor is dark with blue led lights and seems very nice and can be a great dining in option. They have ample table seating and can easily seat 6 people at the bar. I decided to try them last night and ordered the Crispy Tuna Roll from the Chefs Special Rolls with the cashier/manager.Ordering in was a breeze but the waiting almost killed me. I just waited waited and waited for that one roll of tuna for atleast 30 minutes if not more. She was constantly on the phone trying to resolve some credit card issues. I checked in with her after 20 minutes as my daughter was getting super hungry and she dashed into the kitchen. After waiting for another 15 minutes and no sign of her, I walked over to the bar and asked the sushi chef if I can have my order soon. He said 5 minutes and he made it in 5 minutes and gave it to me. I am positive my order was clearly forgotten up until then. The roll was pretty ok. Nothing to rave about and nothing to go back for. It was all fried(bummer) but the flavor of the fish was great. I wish I had chosen something else. Because the roll was so hot my pickled ginger and wasabi were all glued to each other and it was a hot mess. Maybe for hot rolls they should consider packing them separately. My daughter who is very fond of the ginger could not eat any since it was inseparable from the wasabi. I am definitely going back again and will update my review. They have lot of options for lunch specials and I am sure their other rolls wont disappoint me again and their service will get better after they iron out their kinks since they have been open only for a week. Can never have too many sushi places around cause they all have something unique. I am exited to have this new fancy looking sushi place in the Yorkville. By they way they deliver too
