Extremely fresh fish. Generous sashimi portions. We just moved into the neighborhood and have been here 3 times. Haven’t been disappointed yet. We are sad that they are closing temporarily for remodeling. Try the black cod dish. You will not be disappointed!

I don’t know what’s up with all the bad reviews. I had a Manhattan Roll and it was really good. Fast and polite service. The rolls came out very quickly. I even got a complimentary orange and pineapple chunks.

The food was good. The gyoza sauce was not great, I’ve tasted better. The delivery was fast but the spilled the soy sauce that comes in the cylindrical containers. Will try again

Horrible. They overcharge you. They take extra tips from you. Food is so-so. Watch out because they take your change as a tip. They do not deserve it neither!

Their lunch specials are very good, definitely get the Salmon Terriyaki Bento box which includes, soup, salad, California Rolls, dumplings and of course rice. And it’s all for only $ 10.50. SCORE!

Check your food before you eat… I have order from this place several times but it only takes one time with me to mess up before i NEVER go back. Today my coworkers and i ordered lunch. 3 of us order the roll specials and one order the tofu teriyaki special… My sushi was good until my coworker found a COCKROACH in her food!!! I am soo disgusted you can’t even imagine. I will order from here again and I will be sure to let everyone know not to either. see the photo attached !!!

With so many sushi places in the area, I will skip this place — dumplings were cold, they added mayo to rolls that typically don’t have mayo and just not the best quality of fish

This place was empty when we walked in, but we decided to try it anyway. Ordered 3 rolls and seaweed salad. The bill came to around $ 20 total. The sushi was good, but not great. I think I’ll continue my hunt for fantastic sushi in NY.

I have to say I was a just a little leery about ordering from Akita reading all the awful reviews but I am glad I gave it a go. Good take out sushi! Fresh, excellent sashimi, hand rolls and maki rolls. Service is always prompt and the people are so funny and polite over the phone. I have only seen the storefront and it is on the smallish side so I’ve never eaten in there. But what I have received at my apartment has been consistently good and we have been ordering a variety of dishes for the last 2 – 3 months. The only exception is the miso soup which is bland.

Place was empty, I walked out and took it as a bad sign.

Beware… ROTTENFOOD! — Literally! I’m usually a skeptic of 1-star reviews and will give just about any place a chance. But I have painfully learned my lesson; this place is garbage. What kind of restaurant sends out an order containing rotten food? And we used to love this place; good food the first few orders online and reasonable prices. But never again! Here’s why: We ordered Sashimi with two uni sushi on the side. Everything started off ok but when we got to the sea urchin I foolishly put the whole piece in my mouth without smelling it first. Now, you have to understand I love uni. I love uni so much I’ll even eat it if it’s a little fishy smelling; my stomach can handle it no problem. But this uni… OMG! I’ve never seen my body react so violently to food. I have a pretty rock-solid stomach and no gag-reflex when it comes to food, but I was nearly screaming bacon bits within seconds. The uni tasted exactly like how rotten garbage smells. This wasn’t just«off», this was a putrid, horrifying, stomach-churning mess. As my mouth filled with the sour, pungent mush of rotting waste, I felt my whole body clench instantly. My stomach slammed shut the gates, my throat clamped down, my taste buds felt like they were burning. A hundred million years of finely tuned evolution kicked in, screaming open my mouth. «PHLEGH!!» I barely had time to grab my plate as I ejected the mess and ran to the kitchen to hose down my food hole. The sensation was something I’ve never before experienced, and only the scientist inside me was able to appreciated it. Meanwhile, my girlfriend(Japanese born and raised) grabbed the second piece of uni and gave it a smell. «WHAH!!» she screamed. «We’re getting our money back!!» To their credit, Akita did send us $ 9 in cash to cover the cost of the Uni. But how do you make up for the experience? You don’t. You just carry on, nurse your wounds, and seek some counseling for the PTSD. Order at your own risk.

I ordered dragon roll and salmon skin roll for delivery. Pretty good and fast delivery. Nice crispy skins, I would order from here again.

Best sushi in the area for sure! When I moved to the area, Akita happened to be the first sushi place I ordered from, and I’ve tried several since and Akita is still the best. I’ve only ever ordered take-out so I can’t say anything regarding the atmosphere or space, but the fish is quality and the prices are very reasonable. I grew up in a Japanese influenced household, so I’m very picky about my sushi. I also believe in judging a sushi restaurant like I judge a pizza place. A pizza place is only good if their plain slice is good. Likewise, a sushi place is only good if their most basic rolls(tuna, salmon, etc) are of good quality and flavor, without being masked by fancy sauces and frou-frou toppings. But their fancier rolls are also delicious. Itadakimasu :)

The rolls are good. The mango shrimp roll goooood. The spicy combo rolls good okay. Its our go to take out sushi place. ITs not the BEST, but its good for our neighborhood. The miso soup is good!

We live up the block from this place, and usually order in. The California rolls are always delicious and fresh. Not much to say about this place, we only order when we are in the mood for sushi. They have an online ordering service which is great.

One of my favorite sushi places on the Upper East! Very reasonably priced and very delicious. They don’t look busy ever because they do most of their volume in take-out and delivery, which is usually the way I go since I don’t like being the only person sitting there. Give it a try, stick to the basics, its great!

Got a Groupon over here for 4 sushi rolls and 4 sashimi and 4 bottles of beer We got the spicy salmon roll, eel avocado roll, spicy Mexican roll, and tuna roll The fish is not very fresh, the rice not cooked very well. all the spicy rolls taste the same. Service is decent, place is ok. dont think I will be back again

If you eat only the cooked fish and you’re into gooey rolls(which, hey, more power to you), Akita might be fine for you. I had nigiri and not only was the fish delivered warm, but it was mushy and immediately made me ill. And I know from sushi ill – this isn’t the full-on food poisoning so much as the within-one-hour gastic freakout. Except that it lasted three days. AVOID.

Yum! I like this place. They have some good deals with their combination platters(which is 3 different rolls for the price of 2, around $ 15). The salad comes with the standard ginger dressing, which I love. Getting sushi in the city can get expensive; this place is pretty reasonable. My party got some warmed sake to go with our sushi as well. Yum. The restaurant itself is decently sized so it’s likely you’ll get a seat, unless it’s some crazy busy night or something.
