Shakey’s Pizza Parlor

You can’t go wrong with chicken, pizza and jojo’s. We went on a trip to SoCal and this place was a must to stop at. Great food and great atmosphere.

This is my childhood pizza place growing up in the 90s! Would just walk here from Northridge park. Yes literally walk which was a treat to get to eat pizza and mojo potatoes upon arriving. Coming back here last week after decades. I feel old. Felt like nothing has changed. Still tasted great and the overall look of the place looks the same as when I last ate here as a 7^th grader in the 90s. Few of the last remaining OG businesses in the plaza

All I wanted were a few chicken wings, mojos, and an individual pizza. I waited in line for 35 minutes. The wings on their «wing menu» are hot wings. They refused to sell me a few pieces of chicken unless I took a thigh. So I asked to purchase a leg and a wing. They said no. They said I could have 6 regular wings for $ 11.00! No way.
Luckily, I LOVE Popeyes and I don’t need the potatoes. Plus it was filthy and it smelled rancid. Even that greasy frying chicken couldn’t cover up that dirty carpet smell.
STAY AWAY unless you’re a sport parent.

I look forward to coming to this place once per week, and it is pretty consistent food regardless of the day i come. I come during lunch time and get the Bunch A Lunch with a drink and since it is all you can eat, I never leave hungry.
Pizza, Chicken and Mojos (potatoes) are what they are known for, and the pizza ranges from thin/​regular crust to pan, with enough toppings to please anyone. Chicken is Fried, Baked or Chicken Wings with one variety of sauce for that day. The chicken is never undercooked, but i must say I only eat the Breast or Wings (Breaded & Fried) and the Chicken Wings (sauced,) and the bigger pieces are not all that moist, but still good! Mashed potatoes and gravy, Mac n cheese, mixed veggies and a few other hot selections are there for the taking, and a fairly full salad bar as well.
Employees are firendly and efficient, making the pies for the buffet and the take out without letting the buffet selections disappear for long before they are replenished, even when the sports teams show up or the arge table groups for a party. Games in the back for the kids or whomever wants to partake, with some satellite radio station soundtrack usually the background — interrupeted at times by their player piano.
Been going to Shakeys since I was a kid, and this location for over 10 years and will continue to do so.

We went to Shakey’s on a Sunday afternoon. They were busy! The food was good and very tasty! They have Pizza, MOJO Potatoes, Fried Chicken and a nice salad bar! Def a good treat! The manager came up to us at the end of our meal to check on us. That was nice! Good job Shakeys!

Came on a Tuesday afternoon, Ordered pepperoni pizza, it came out burnt, salad bar was nearly empty, chicken was really good overall I won’t come here again.

This shakeys place is so nasty very dirty especially their restroom very bad.
Very poor customer service. Food is ok.

Not sure why the stars are only 3 ½. The fried chicken and mojos here are delicious! Healthy? no. Delish? yes. It is a big open space to eat there so we picked it up and took it home to enjoy. It was packed and therefore loud, no biggy really but we felt homey that night (hence the fried chicken!). Both my husband and I were talking about the great customer service. Both of the men we spoke with were very smiley and friendly.

The pizza, chicken and mojo potatoes are pretty good but they do skimp on the toppings by a huge margin. The thing that bugged me the most was after spending $ 31 on dinner, I asked for a water cup because I was waiting for my order because it was to go. The lady behind the counter said «Make sure you only use it for water», she made it seam like i was broke and couldn’t afford a damn soda but all i did was want some water while i was waiting. I am almost 30 years old and for someone to say that to me, it really irritated me and I didn’t appreciate what she had said to me. Then on the other hand when my order came out, it was wrong. This place has gone down hill over the years and the quality has not been the same.

This location didn’t have all of the deals that were posted on their website so when I called to place an order for a party, I had to completely rethink things when they told me I couldn’t order the party platter even though I was looking at it on their website.
When I finally went to pick it up (in their tiny parking lot) the person working the register was so distracted by everything else, the whole process just too forever. Not to mention their credit card machine took probably close to 5 minutes from the time my card was swiped to when it was accepted & the receipt printed out. Are they using a dial up connection there or something?!
By the time I got home, the order wasn’t all that warm which wasn’t what we wanted. Definitely not up to the standards of other Shakey’s Pizza locations I’ve been to.

Yes ONE star. It was pouring rain, Monday night football was coming on in a half hr. Lets go to Shakys the kids shouted. Chicken and mojos sounded good. We get to Shakys, there was 6 people sitting at different tables, no one in line so we walked right up and ordered, Number 3 please. Thats pizza, chicken and mojos. There were 6 people working behind the counter performing different duties. It took 25 minutes from the time we ordered to the time the food was ready. The kids were impatient but I explained, dont complain when you have to wait for food because if it takes a long time it’s because they are cooking it from scratch, it will be fresh. I’m so naïve:)
When we got home I opened the box and found the mojos were cold to the touch, the chicken was at least one day old. I was thinking maybe 2 stars at this point. I can warm the potatoes and they will probably taste ok. They were just ok but the chicken was awful. Clumps of really dry grizzle. You know what happens when something is reheated again and again reheated. SO I called and asked to speak with a manager. The person that answered the phone was cold and short in her reply, I was on hold for 22 minutes. I remind you, NO OTHER customers ordered in the time we were waiting for our food. And there were 6 people in the restaurant when we left. It couldnt have gotten that busy that I had to be on hold for 22 mins. When I spoke to a manager, she had a little bit of an attitude. I reminded her that her Unilocal rating was 2.5 stars. She replied, oh well. I said yeah with that attitude you will meet your one star goal very soon. She asked what could she do? Could she replace the order? I said no thank you I am only calling to try to prevent another family from being disappointed after paying almost 40 bucks for food, most of which was going to end up in the garbage
Try other shakeys if you have to have shakeys or try Sharky’s. Great restaurant. The closest one is on Mason and Devonshire same parking lot as T. Js and Basken Robbins and Chase Bank

Food was good, place was clean. A little noises but expected as the place is children friendly. I noticed a kids area with games and a TV in the eating lobby that you can see the kids in the room play, A nice plus! Almost 5 stars, due to the sticker shock $ 80 for 4 adults and 2 kids. Also, the TV’s playing sports could really use close caption as you can’t hear what they are saying. Overall staff was friendly and would definitely come back again.

Shakey’s was always the place to go too for pizza and beer
They still put out a good quality pizza and most of all their Mojo’s potatoes.
They have a lunch Buffet for $ 7.99 all you can eat with a salad bar, drink not included. For the most part the pizza was good and the fried chicken was also very good.
Just be careful when you eat at a buffet. Just watch how other guests handle the food, and most of all always get a clean plate.
During your busy times I would have an employee working out in the dining room, because of the buffet, customers leave trash everywhere, or keep an eye out in the dining room.
Not to many of these locations left. Good to see that this location is doing good.
If there’s a pizza that you would like for them to make they will make it for you and put it on the buffet line.
Overall I had a good lunch.

So i usually go to the Shakeys in North Hollywood for my bunch a lunch fix and i really like that location. But my wife wanted to meet me during her lunch break and since they closed the one on Balboa, this was closest to her work.

Friday at noon-​ish, i notice this location is OLD SCHOOL looking, okay… no biggie. I walk in on a Friday at noon and its a friggin madhouse. This joint is waaaay small and theres 2 huge lines, one to pay and one waiting for new food to be put at the buffet.
After paying i realize the seating is sparce. You ever seen a prison movie where all the inmates sit along these long ass tables down the middle of a room? That was the only seating left because the few booths they had were taken. Wonderful, so i have to sit and eat shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of strangers. So i grab my plastic knife and fork (even more of a reason to think im in the county jail) and eat my lunch. The had about 5 items to choose from while the No-​Ho location has like 8 or 9.
The place died down after like 30 mins of being there and alot of tables opened up so im assuming i got there at the wrong time.
The little arcade area was a complete joke and the employees were nice.
The food was basically the same taste as my usual Shakeys but ill stick to the No-​Ho one.

The reviews for this place are very sad. Most of the bad reviews I read are during dinner time. I think it might be a good idea for people to visit this location during the week at lunch time. The Bunch of Lunch is an indulgance that I allow myself every now and then. ProTip: Get there when they open to ensure that the food at the buffet is fresh and hot. The pizza is good, the famous mojo’s are terrific and the fried chicken is outstanding. The salad bar is fresh and the blue cheese dressing is dynamite. They used to give 2 plates to each person, one for hot food and one for cold food. Now you only get 1 plate but you can request a salad plate. The cost for the bunch of lunch with a drink is about $ 10.50 tax included.

Wow… Definely should have skipped this one. I had thought it would be at least decent from the way their advertised on TV, but his place is essentially a glorified school cafeteria.
I stopped by for the «lunch buffet». The food was Meh, none of it was anything I would even look twice at, they didn’t really have any pizza out, maybe a slice left of a coue random types that nobody wanted. The worst was their seating arrangement.
The tables & chairs are lined up in rows like a Cafeteria, I swear I had the Mom from «What’s eating Gilbert Grape» in front of me and pretty much cleaned out Every dish right in front of me, so the pickins were quite slim. There were at least 5 – 10 Screaming kids in there, ranging from newborn to 8 yrs old, all just having a free for all.
I had to get the heck out of this place as soon as possible… Never again.

I’ve had Shakey’s in other locations and it’s pretty good. However, in this location the pizza, for some reason, tasted like FROZEN PIZZA! Wth is up with that?! They also overkilled my pizza with olives… refer to my picture. Shakey’s pizza is quite a bit more expensive than other pizza places (like Pizza Hut, Dominoes, etc) so I always expect it to be better. This location was a disappointment! Save your money and get your pizza at a different Shakey’s or a restaurant! The Mojo potatoes was alright and the chicken wasn’t as good as I remembered when compared to other Shakey’s.

I’m not a fan of the food at any Shakey’s, I know… then why am I here? So this past Mother’s Day my mom picked the spot. Hence why I’m reviewing. :)
It was busy this Sunday, line was long and tables were packed. This whole time I kept thinking, what a mess! Until I met the friendliest, calmest and most welcoming smile. The manager here, Rosemary is awesome! She was totally hands on and she was running around trying to help everyone, all while providing wonderful customer service. The trays were kept full and she kept on smiling. Sometimes, it’s not always about the food; customer service is crucial as well. Nothing really stood out as far as the food goes, but I did enjoy the salad bar. :) Thank you Rosemary for caring about your staff and customers. Although most people are quick to complain, I think it’s only fair that you are recognized for being superb!

Always a classic «family style» dining experience can be expected when visiting shakey’s. The pizza is good, not filling and with lots of toppings. Chicken is also good, much better than kfc, churches, etc… The best part is the mojo potatoes which is there signature dish in my opinion and well worth the trip.
Yes, it may be crowded, noisy, and at times messy, but hey! This place is good and that’s why it’s like that. If you can’t deal with the environment of a family friendly, old fashioned pizza parlor then just stay home and order delivery :-) lol
