This is a restaurant where a reservation is meaningless. We had a 7:15 reservation on a Wednesday and were not seated until 8:00 with no apology. Indeed, it seems that management views the excess wait as a measure of its success. Once seated, when drink orders were taken, we asked the waitress to ask her manager to comp our round of drinks as an accommodation for the delay. That request was rudely refused. While the food is good, for us, dining is an experience. Ours was disappointing. We see no reason to be abused as a customer, and will not be returning to this restaurant.

This neighborhood place is consistently good. I always order the roasted chicken with leeks. It’s always delicious. The only problem is the wait and noise level. It’s hard to hv a conversation. Even so, I always enjoy it. Yum.

My wife and I go here all the time, the food is excellent, the service is great, and the atmosphere is perfect for a date night. The whole chicken is the best chicken I’ve ever had anywhere and I’ve travelled all over the world. If you get a chance to stay for dessert, make sure and try the chocolate banana cake. Suzanne, the owner, is wonderful

Went here with my whole family for a birthday dinner after about a 20 year absence, and wow — completely blown away. From the warm garlic bread(which my fiancée attacked), the great salad(served perfectly to the tastes of the picky clientele — cheese, olives and dressing on the side) and wow — the chicken(never have I had such moist and flavorful chicken). What a fabulous meal — cannot wait to come back!

This is one of the best places I have ever been in USA. Charming atmosphere, great food, excellent service. We had there Jumbo Lobster Ravioli which was simply amazing. I am deeply recommending this restaurant to anyone who cares about high quality and excellent service. We were also impressed with the friendliness of the owners.

This is a neighborhood gem, the only problem is that they don’t take reservations. If you go there early enough, the wait won’t be so bad. My favorite at this small quaint little neighborhood restaurant is the skirt steak, it was outstanding, it melts in your mouth and the portion was huge. I had leftovers and the next day was still delicious. I would definitely recommend this place if you live in the area and don’t want to drive to Chicago downtown.

Giving 3.5 stars. Bread is amazing! Grilled calamari and the sauce was bomb! I was hoping it was crispier grilled but the sauce I’d take home for bread dipping. I had the shrimp and crab avocado salad but it wasn’t great. It sounded much better. I needed to add salt and pepper to add more flavor. Hubby had the whole rotisserie chicken which was large! The cottage fries are potato chips! We weren’t prepared for it but it was good. Ambience was very nice with the fireplace right behind us! Waitress Ana was super sweet!

A nice smiling bartender, usually a lady, a plate of just made chips and a well prepared drink usually starts the eveing at Next Door Bistro. Add to that the owners charm, the Next Door salad with cheese and salami, the crispy roast chicken with leeks, and chips and their bread and you have a very lovely casual evening in Norhtbrook. We have been dining there for quite a while and Suzanne and company always try to please. Suzanne knows her customers, and works hard to make them happy sometimes by sending a dessert to the table. Nice touch. She has been in the business for a while and knows you are only as good as your last meal, and service is key. Keep up the good work. Oh, a reviewer mentioned a crowd of gray haired people. So what? Older and wiser is what I say. I have gray hair and really resent K K saying that on 10⁄18. It was like a warning to future diners. He or she will be that way in time and then what.

I must get my frustration out somewhere about this restaurant. My husband and I and another couple had dinner there Friday nite. From the time we sat down to the time we left we were rushed by the owner(who has no personality except a frown on her face and a nasty nasty attitude) and her wait staff. If they could have shoved our food down our throats they would have! We came out for a relaxing meal and visit with our friends and the evening was anything but. Who does this woman think she is !! Her restaurant is no better than any other in town. I did notice that if your a regular there you are treated much differently. I can spend my money anywhere but there from now on. I will spread the word about how they treat people. Take my advice run as fast as you can from this restaurant !!!

We had originally wanted to go to Francesca Hole In The Wall next door but it was a 45min wait for a Sat night around 7:45pm. Next Door Bistro was in the same parking lot so we figured why not try it. It’s a cozy atmosphere with dimmed lights. The crowd is 90% grey haired, just so you know… The bread was freshly baked and yummy. We had the grilled calamari for an appetizer, which was alright. Our main courses were the linguine with clam sauce(generous portion and delicious) and the white fish(tasty with tomato based sauce) Basically an Italian spot well suited for date night with good service and an additional Italian food choice around Northbrook.

Horrible service. We ordered takeout. They called us and told us when it was ready, and then had to wait another 15 minutes. Once I put it in my car, it was leaking sauce. When we got it at home, they were missing two of the thing we paid for. On top of everything, we called to get the things they missed removed from our card and they said we would have to come in and get it to rectify their mistake. Won’t be back.

I noted to my dining companion that when you’re here, you’re family! Not in the cheesy, Olive Garden way, but it truly appeared that the owner and patrons actually knew one another and care about each other. In typical Italian fashion, some walls were covered with cheesy photos of the owner(s) and celebrities. May be cute to some but I find it super duper tacky. The staff was sweet and full of helpful recommendations from both the regular menu and the specials — neither of us got the broasted chicken(the most popular item) However I certainly picked the winner with the eggplant parmigiana. It was just absolutely perfect, and I ate my leftovers cold for breakfast the next morning(leaps and bounds above a hotel breakfast). Plus, we were bonused a dessert of a decadent brownie and grapes.

We love this place. The owner is sweet and walks around to make sure everything is good. The Next Door Bistro salad is to die for. Simple but delicious. Great homemade garlic bread. My husband LOVES the chicken. I love the pasta. Everything has been great. We also sometimes get take-out and, it sounds silly, but they package everything so nicely in a box with cardboard between hot and cold dishes etc. They, just in general, go the extra mile.

Absolutely love this place! The bread they bring you before the food comes out is Uh-mazing! I’ve gone there so much that they know what I drink and have it ready within seconds of sitting down. Eddie(refills drinks as well as cleans up the plates) is the absolute man! Def a character(in a good way). Good prices, good food and an overall good place. Will continue to go here. Oh yeah and the dessert is pretty awesome as well :)

Went with my foodie daughter & son in law on the weekend after New Years, full by the time we left. Our food was great, My whole roasted chicken made a great leftover lunch the following day. Enough for two big meals, seasoned with leeks excellent! Osso Buco beautiful, again enough for two meals, my wife’s pasta excellent. Great value. Owner up front, friendly, Server made us feel welcome, terrific, wish I remembered her name, friendly and efficient. She spoke with an accent, maybe from Holland? Would highly recommend for adults. Signature house salad beautiful presentation. Nice atmosphere, not designed for kids.

I was surprised that this place didn’t have more reviews/photos. At the recommendation of other Unilocal reviewers I decided to order the Whole Roasted Chicken. What a great decision! Just as others said, it was the most tender piece of meat I’ve ever had! I usually go for marbled beef because I love the flavors absorbed by the fat, so I was a bit hesitant to order chicken. However, I was far from disappointed due to the abundance of both dark and white meat. The skin was spiced, flavorful and must be credited for allowing the meat to be so tender! Only tip I’d give is to share it with someone else, it was way too big for me! Oh and I must add that the bread was some of the best pre-meal Italian bread I have ever had. Great meal all around.

Been here twice from out of town and its great! Like everyone says, try the roasted chicken with the leeks. Beautifully seasoned! Wife had the Italian sausage and risotto and it was every bit as delightful. Only warning: be prepared yo wait, even during the week. Its worth it!

We stumbled upon the Next Door Bistro while out running errands in Northbrook, not our usual neighborhood. They were quick to accommodate us, even without a reservation, on what appeared to be a busy Saturday evening. We were certainly bringing down the average age in the place, but I took that as a good sign. Older patrons were regulars and greeted each other and staff by name. I had the roasted chicken breast at the recommendation of other reviewers. It was incredible. The crispy leeks on top are crave-worthy. I didn’t finish it, but the leftovers were just as delicious a few nights later. Even the steamed broccoli I ordered as a side was bright and flavorful. I semi-regret not trying the cottage fries as my side — they looked crispy and wonderful. The warm garlic bread at the start of the meal was a nice touch. Service was attentive and fantastic. I wouldn’t have blamed them if it lacked — there were wall-to-wall people — but they didn’t slip at all. We’ll be back, probably with a reservation next time.
