Unique and delicious — the gluten free option I had tonight with ricotta, butter but squash and cranberries was ridiculously good! I ordered take out tonight because Otto was donating a very generous 8% of their sales to our 8th grade trip scholarship fund — I will be a repeat customer because this pizza is amazing!

The pizza was very good but the ordering experience was idiotic. The person on the phone told me that is was impossible to make a ½ and ½ pie. I wanted a half cheese/half pepperoni and a half sausage/half mushroom and pepper. By the reaction of the phone person, you would have thought I asked for a pizza to be placed in geosynchronous orbit over my house. «I’m sorry but we can’t do that». I replied, «you can borrow a protractor if the pizza savants can’t do the math. I mean really, even the worst pizza joint on earth can handle such a basic request. The bigger thing that burned my bunny is that 2 half topping(and one of those halfs was plain) pizzas were $ 40…for pick-up. That is way over-priced for the local pizza market. So…if you want over-priced pizza made by people who can’t grasp Pythagorean geometry, order away. As for myself, I do not do commerce with the likes of these louts. Given the price they charge, I should get their pizza anyway I want.

Delicious and authentic pizza! Their sauce is fantastic and they know the right proportion of cheese to sauce ratio. What makes this place even better is you can grab some wine or beer at the liquor store it is located inside. Never had a bad pie from this place!

So one night I didn’t feel like cooking dinner and had received the OTTO Pizza flyer in the mail and thought«Why not?». After reading through their various Pizza options, I finally settled on the«Chicken, Caramelised Pears & Fontina Cheese» Pizza. OH –to the EM — to the — GEE, it was SO tasty! I remember thinking, too, that the crust was not overwhelmingly ‘doughy’ or ‘bread-y’ and as one reviewer has already remarked ‘the way crust should be’. If you are looking for pizza that isn’t just a decent pepperoni slice(though I see they have that on the menu too), this is a GREAT choice. Side note: OTTO Pizza in Newburyport is conveniently located INSIDE Leary’s package store… so you are kind of spoiled for choice in terms of drinks pairing.

My parents couldn’t wait for me to come back from California for a visit so they could share one of the mushroom ricotta pizzas with me and now I don’t want to go back to Cali :) great pizza! And great wine!

First let me state that I am rating this on food not pizza. Living right next to NYC not only do I have great pizza near my house I have some of the best pies with only a 20 minute drive into the city. That being said I feel like it is very hard to judge pizza away from home. And to be honest this is not really pizza in the traditional sense. Pizza is way and I mean way overpriced we got a large pie with olives, onions, and mushrooms it was like $ 24. Yes I get its a semi vacation area yes I realize inflation and all that, but this pizza was not that big and was pretty thin. Now for flavor it was decent, but wtf why is there cornmeal on the bottom of pizza. Whatever I notice a lot of places do this, but stop seriously. Staff was excellent the second time we went they had some kind of computer glitch and registers internet etc where all messed up yet they got our pizza out in 20 very impressed. All in all it’s decent pizza, at a above average price, with great staff. I mean I went twice so I must have liked it.

Excellent toppings, all very good quality. The preconceived combinations are delicious but there are also loads of wonderful toppings to customize with. Crust is good– and they know how long to keep the pizza in the oven. Friendly staff, happy and helpful.

The pizza was delicious but the kid behind the counter really aggravated me. The young man at the register looked«bothered» when dealing with each customer and had a sour-puss on his face the whole time. A woman in front of me attempted to order a free small pizza she won in an Otto’s contest and this kid made an issue out of it. Not cool.

Great pizza with fresh ingredients! Best take out in Newburyport! Had Ottos in Portland ME a few years ago and was thrilled to see it in Nbypt. Really great chewy dough with fresh and tasty toppings. Would definitely recommend.

It’s great to have an Otto’s location even remotely close by as the locations in Harvard Square and Portland, Maine are so far apart and places I don’t find myself often enough to enjoy their food. The Newburyport location is located inside Leary’s Liquor store and the quality of the pizza is just as good as the other locations. Caramelized pears, wild mushrooms, pancetta, and pulled pork were some of the days great rotating slices, showing the innovative and delicious combinations Otto is known for. This location was packed when I was there, more people were in line for the pizza than the liquor store. It’s good to see they are doing well and sticking to the same recipe that worked at making them the best thin crust pizza is New England. Hopefully, the success of this location will lead to more, maybe in New Hampshire(wink wink). Best of luck.

The only thing holding me back from rating a 5 star is the prices. Expensive. Why do we have to continue paying high prices for good quality food. That’s my only gripe. This pizza is superb quality!!! Period.

This has overtaken West Newbury House of Pizza as the BEST gluten free pizza in the area. Outstanding crust and toppings. Only drawback is they don’t do many other food types like fries, onion rings, etc.

I first had Otto’s from one of the Boston area locations during a hospital stay.(I actually had it twice!). Next came Lynnfield which is far from me but much closer than Boston. The staff at Lynnfield are so friendly, they wear gloves, and seem to put effort into making a good pizza. One time they even brought my pizza out to me in the pouring rain when I had a napping little one in the car! When Newburyport opened I was thrilled! I could have Otto’s whenever I wanted pizza. Boy was I disappointed. The staff never wear gloves!(Gross!!!). One day I went in, one pizza maker was tossing his hand around in the cheese(as if he was just playing around with it). The cashier isn’t the friendliest and to top it off the is not as good. There tends to be a lot of cornmeal/dough flakes on the bottom of the pizza and in the box, they have messed up my order a couple times, and the pizza often tastes slapped together. If time allowed, I would prefer to drive 45 minutes to Lynnfield. Needless to say Newburyport is a big disappointment. If I hadn’t had the pizza from the other locations, I’d wonder why the pizza was over priced from staff that don’t seem to care about food safety by wearing gloves.

Love Otto’s pizza! We’ve had almost every one from plain cheese to bacon, mashed potato, and scallion, and they have all been delicious. The crust is always a deal breaker for me, and Otto’s is perfecyly crunchy and chewey at the same time. The converted me from a plain cheese girl, and my super picky eater of a toddler loves the mushroom, bacon, Vidalia onion! Even better, their delivery service is super quick and my go to when I’m too tired to cook during the week! Can’t say enough good things. Also — you can get wine delivered from Leary’s! Done and done.

There is a reviewer below with the same star rating who pretty much hit the nail right on the head but I will put in a few more cents. I’d say I’d give this place a 2.5 stars if I could because the people who work here are super friendly and ordering and getting the food is fast and efficient. You can also sign up to have Leary’s deliver beer and wine which is kinda cool, but its a bit tricky so I never use it. I also like the flavor of some of the toppings they put together a lot. So what’s the big issue? Note that I called it «food» above, because it ain’t «pizza» and it’s a bit pricey for what you get. I am a thin crust and neapolitan pizza fan all the way, so I was super excited when I saw what an Otto«pizza» looked like(before I realized it wasn’t pizza). I wasn’t even weirded out by the fact that they have no sauce(no, not white sauce, literally no sauce, at least none of the«pizzas» I’ve had the five or so times I’ve ordered from Otto). The dough and cheese, as mentioned in that other review, are dry and hard/crusted respectively. It is impossible for the«pizza» to stay soft because there is no sauce and the pizza is so cracker thin, the cheese cools off and becomes hard by the time I can get it home a few blocks away. This is less of a problem with some of their«pizzas» that have more, and more wet toppings, but a simple one is doomed to become incredibly leathery and tough to eat, even fresh out of the oven. If Otto put a thin layer of sauce on their«pizzas», not even just tomato(I’m not really attached to red sauces, which is why I had high hopes for Otto), but something that complemented the other ingredients and toppings well, alfredo style sauce, hollandaise, bearnaise, or even a light demi glacé of some sort, and made the dough a few hairs thicker(but still very thin), I think they’d have amazingly unique pizzas fit for any foodie hipster or legit pizza lover, and not just big round leather crackers with unfortunate amazing toppings.

My wife and I were visiting my parents for the holidays and when my parents suggested pizza I admit that I was like«Eh, really?» See, I grew up in Newburyport, and the norm was the greasy Greek style stuff with flabby, flavorless crust. But they insisted that Otto’s was different, so I relented. I am glad I did. As another reviewer pointed out, this is the thin crust style, and the crust is rubbed in olive oil. I actually quite like this style, so unlike the other reviewer, I consider this a plus. I loathe soggy pizza crust. Otto’s uses cornmeal on their peels, which, again, I love. I also like the dollops of red sauce instead of a uniform layer unlike the other reviewer. We ordered 4 pizzas(big family): eggplant, 4 cheese, chicken, and kalamata. All of the pizzas were great except the eggplant which was a bit bland. The kalamata and 4-cheese(which had dollops of ricotta) were by far the best. Now, we didn’t order a margherita, which I consider the true test of a pizza maker’s skill, so I’m interpolating a bit here, but I think Otto’s gets it mostly right. The only improvements I would make are: a wood oven would really kick this into the stratosphere, and I like a yeastier crust(like the kind you get with a pre-ferment). That said, this is definitely the best pizza in Newburyport and arguably better than Flatbreads in Amesbury. Being located in Leary’s is also pure genius. Now that there’s a decent pizza joint down the street I might visit my parents more often ;)

Thank you baby Jesus for bringing us Otto’s! Anyone cranky about this pizza not being ‘Chicago deep dish, Greek style or Neapolitan’, is… well, just cranky. This is super crispy delicious pizza. The sauce isn’t too sweet, the pepperoni isn’t too spicy and the cheese is divine. I have a small extra cheese and pepperoni on the way, as we speak! Damnit, forgot to include a side of pino.

I can’t believe this place has a bad review! We ordered two different pizza to try, the flavor combinations were terrific. The first pizza was bacon, purple onion and green Granny Smith apples, which was wonderful! First time I had apple on my pizza and it won’t be the last. The second pizza was white bean. Sausage and hot red pepper flakes with a sprinkling of dry herbs. The thought of a spicy pizza with no sauce and beans may not seem appealing, but it’s has become my new all time favorite! No, this place does not sell thick crust pizza with tomato sauce and pizza cheese, if you want that go to one of the million other places in nbpt. If you want good tasting well made and high quality pizza you come here. A pizza and a bottle of wine would make a great dinner date down at the waterfront.

I’ve been to an Otto in Portland ME and loved it, so I was happy to see this new location in my hometown. It’s been open just a few weeks but the place is booming. Leary’s did themselves a favor by attaching themselves to this pie-maker. The mushroom bacon and vadalia onion pie is great and the kids loved the Four Cheese. Highly recommend and can’t wait until they have the liquor delivery activated. Nothing better than getting a great pizza and a fine bottle of wine — delivered!

Seeing there was new pizza place in town, we decided to try it this week — getting pizzas to go from Otto’s. If you’re thinking of going here, the first thing you need to know is that this is yet another«thin-crust» pizza place. No Neapolitan-style pizza or Greek-style pizza or Chicago-style pizza here. The good: Service is good, fast and pleasant. The toppings seem fresh and are very tasty It’s convenient to be able to pick up pizza and wine/beer at the same location(Leary’s) The bad: The dough used for the crust is not very tasty, and the edges are so flat and well-done that some flakes right off and what’s left is inedible. Personally I think the quality(texture and taste) of the dough is one of the key things for good pizza, and OTTO’s dough doesn’t pass the quality test for me. They have a very free hand with the oil(olive? Not sure). It seems this is the first thing they put on the dough once it’s formed, and as a result the pizza is greasier than it should be(and the bottom of the pizza box gets soaked through, even though they put a mesh barrier under the pizza) Despite all the oil, the pizzas were remarkably dry. They use what seems to be corn meal under the pizza to keep it from sticking. Lots of places do that; but here, some of the meal sticks to the bottom of the pizza when you grab a slice(maybe because of the oil) and it’s ground so large that you wind up getting one or two inedible grains of it with every slice. Not very appetizing to bite into a pizza and then have to spit out something that seems like large grains of sand. Some style notes: These may or may not be stoppers for you, depending what you like in a pizza: Some of the pizzas are noted on the menu as being«tomato based». They are not. Instead of putting a base of tomato sauce on the dough and then layering toppings over it, they put the toppings on and then put a few«dollops» of tomato sauce on top — maybe four or five 2″ dollops on a small. This changes the entire character of the pizza(and may be why they need to pour so much oil over the dough before adding toppings, instead of drizzling some over the finished pizza… without a base of sauce, this thin crust pizza might become a big cracker in the oven) They spread cheese over the entire pizza, which is fine, but because there is no sauce underneath it, it adheres to the thin crust and makes any part of the pizza that doesn’t have other toppings very stiff and hard to eat(the cheese isn’t gooey cheese, it’s a dry cheese) Overall, OTTO won’t be our choice for pizza going forward. Between the tasteless dough, the excess oil and the lack of a tomato sauce base on the«tomato based» pizzas, it doesn’t hit the pizza spot. «Specialty Pizza» with unusual toppings is fine, but it all has to work together and it doesn’t here. A small OTTO pizza might be good if you wanted an pizza-crackery thing as an appetizer for a group. Plus, there are already better choices for thin-crust pizza in town.
