first time trying«My Place» tonight. we got take out and picked it up ourselves. 2 of us got the chicken kabobs and one got the prime rib/shrimp combo. all the dinners came with really good rice and french fries. the chicken kabobs were huge and very tasty. the grilled veggies were perfect. the prime rib was delicious but they forgot the extra sauce that was requested and they are a bit skimpy on the shrimp considering the price of the meal. the servings are very good size and the taste is definitely there. a little pricey, most meals are in the over $ 10-$ 15 range, the prime rib dinner is the most expensive at $ 21. another minor disappointment is they didn’t have flan which is on the menu, but maybe next time and there definitely will be a next time. overall we were satisfied.

I love Portuguese food, so one day I walked in and right away I noticed that the place was falling apart. Everything is dirty. The floor, the Windows, and the walls. So I said to myself if all of these things are dirty I can imagine how dirty it must be behind the counter. Plus not to mention that there other restaurant down on Sawyer st was shut down by the board of health because they found the place with millions of roaches breeding in the restaurant. Warning ! Warning ! Stay away from these restaurants, they are both owned by the same owner ! Please, don’t take my word for it. Walk in look around and eat there 4 hour old chicken parts that’s been drying up under there heat lamp. Do you dare enter?

Originally, my rating was a 5, but after my last experience, we bumped it down to a 4, not based on food, but based on delivery speed. More on that later. My best friend’s mother had ordered from here many a time in the past, and he was a fan, so the group of us decided to try it one evening. Under instruction from his mom, we ordered a salad, a chicken with rice and ribs with fries. The salad was straight forward, lettuce, onions, cucumbers, tomatoes and olives. It came with Italian dressing on the side. We were originally disappointed since the sauce that normally comes with Portuguese chicken was missing, however their chicken is so incredibly moist and flavorful, you don’t even miss it. Now they quite literally give you a whole chicken, so there’s breast, thigh, wings, legs, neck, the whole shebang. The rice it comes with is so very flavorful, it’s the traditional Portuguese yellow rice, and it’s perfect just the way it is. The ribs were must larger than I’m used to, and had much more meat on them than the typical ribs you think of. They weren’t fall off the bone, and instead reminded me of Fred Flinstone ribs that you really had to gnaw on, sounds somewhat bizarre, but they were tasty. Friday evening, we decided to order delivery from then again. They told us it would only be 15 minutes which made sense since that was about how long it took them the first time. 35 minutes later, the delivery man called me and asked me to clarify my address, then stated he would arrive in only 5 minutes. 15 minutes after that, he finally called again to say that he had gotten to my house. Now I totally understand if you had gotten lost or something, but the driver had a smart phone, and the restaurant is no more than 10 minutes from my house, so I’m not so sure how 15 minutes turned into just shy of an hour. The food still tasted wonderful, but only after we put it in the oven to reheat it since the chicken was room temperature and the fries were cold. This time, they included the yummy chicken sauce, but skipped the Italian dressing. Eh, ya win some, ya lose some. We’ll definitely get food from here again, we just may have to go and pick it up ourselves to alleviate all the delivery issues. Anddddd if we pick it up, then we’ll be able to get a legendary malasada to snack on while we wait.

This place is one of our favorite local Portuguese Restaurants. Not a fancy place but great food at very reasonable prices. If your looking for the best Malassadas or authentic Portuguese food, this is the place.
