Fantastic! My old man is half Portuguese and we were delighted. Definitely go if you’re in the area. We had an appetizer and two specials and they were terrific. Great service, clean, and great food.

Excellent Portuguese food at a good price. My wife had a cacoila plate with boiled potatoes and broccoli and I had a steak sandwich. Both were excellent. The cacoila was a bunch of chunks of tender marinated pork and was delicious. My steak sandwich was simple. Tender grilled sirloin with a Portuguese red pepper on Portuguese bread. Very good. Our waitress was very good and made us welcome even though we showed up close to closing. Unilocal says they close at 11 but it was actually 9. I should’ve called but I’m glad I didn’t or I probably would’ve missed out on this place. We will be back.

We have been to the Roasted Pig three times and have thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere each time. This is my husband’s new favorite place to go for dinner because everything is delicious and authentic Portuguese. The restaurant is immaculate and the owners are involved and very accommodating. My baked haddock was so fresh and delicious, my friend had shrimp Mozambique and said it was«the best» he’s ever had and his wife had the Cacoila and said it was very good. Can’t wait to return

Exceptional! My husband suggested the Roasted Pig for a date night dinner and we were so impressed. He had the baked haddock which was cooked perfectly, I had the shrimp mosambique which had 16⁄20 count shrimp, the best I ever had. We ordered the flaming sausage for an appetizer which came lite on fire, HOT perfect. The meals came with a bottle of wine for $ 30.00(only Monday thru Wednesday), we ordered dessert of lady fingers and raspberry sauce with fresh whipped cream, very fresh. We sat at the bar, Suzanne the bartender was attentive and pleasant, she brought over olives and bread. The owner and chef Jordan came out to greet us to ask how dinner was, very nice touch. This is a hidden gem located on Nash Road in New Bedford MA will go back soon.

We were SO excited to try this place, as we are out of towners and heard good reviews. We got there on a Sunday afternoon for lunch around 2:30 pm(well after prime lunch time). There were only about 4 or 5 tables seated, maybe about 3 people at the bar, it took almost 5 minutes to get seated. We were seated for at least 10 minutes, no water and no service. We got up and left only to have the waiter tell us «okay» when my date told them we’re leaving. What a waste of time!

I visited the roasted pig back in January and had to revisit it again when I was back in town. Being from California I didn’t think I would be out here again so soon but much to my surprise my family vacation took us near here. The family was very happy we stopped by and really enjoyed this little place. We could only wish we could find a place closer to home! I almost never hand out 5 stars but this please is well deserving of it. If your looking for a great home cooked meal, I would highly recommend coming to the roasted pig!

The Unilocal rave reviews brought us here on a very rainy Saturday afternoon. There was a table with around eight customers but other than that, the restaurant was fairly quiet. It was a lot nicer inside than I expected, very bright and airy. The bar had three large TV’s with one on ESPN, one on CNN and the other on RTP(Portuguese channel). I started with the pear martini special for $ 5. It was huge and loaded with alcohol. It has a bit too much of a pineapple flavor for me, but that is a personal preference. There are a handful of draft beers available. My husband thought his draft beer wasn’t very fresh. The waitress brought over bread and olives before taking our order. We started with the Spanish-style littlenecks. Boy, they were salty. Portuguese food always tends towards salty, but this was a bit more than normal. We received 11 littlenecks for $ 11.95. Tasty, but salty. There was definitely a long wait before our entrees arrived. I had the Pork Alentejana for $ 15.95. The portion was huge and it was loaded with pork. Two people could have easily split this. It had a good flavor, but was also too salty. My husband ordered the Mediterranean Salmon. He received the regular grilled salmon. It took so long for the meal to come out that we didn’t bother asking for the correct meal. He thought it was OK. All in all it was OK, but there were definitely a few issues during a not so busy time. We’d return, but it wouldn’t be our first choice.

Visited The Roasted Pig tonight on the recommendation of a friend. Being a Thursday evening business was slow. Restaurant was clean, service was good, food… not so much. I ordered baked haddock. This fishy concoction was so salty I couldn’t finish it. For side dishes I ordered the rice and side salad. The rice was OK, the«salad» was chopped romain with a sliver of red onion and four cherry tomatoes. The best I can say about this meal is after a few bites I was no longer hungry. My dining companions were also disappointed. One had«tough»(overcooked) shrimp and the other played it safe with fried fish. The fried fish was described as just OK. I could be convinced to try The Roasted Pig again only because of the raves of friends. Perhaps I ordered a meal the cook didn’t excell at preparing?

Ok, so here is the roasted pig review. It appeared very clean with a newer, updated interior but there is a fruit fly problem. They were in my face in the bathroom and seen flying around in the bar. They for some reason stayed away from us and our drinks and food so I did not make an issue of it. Fruit flies are hard to keep away and i noticed traps so they were obviously addressing the issue. My boyfriend had the shrimp mozambique and he said it was the best he has ever had. I had the steak jr, ordered extra rare, but served med-rare. Regardless, my steak was delicious and the house fries were to die for. Our initial bartender was knowledgeable, professional and clearly knew this restaurant well. BUT, the bartender(girl with an upper lip/monroe piercing) who replaced her is what really causes this review to go down in flames. The replacement bartender was friendly and through small talk, learned that i am a correction officer. She then proceeded to attempt to educate me on how correction officers abuse inmates. At one point, i told her directly that i was very offended but apparently it was too late. All set with the roasted pig and i am sure my «abusive» co-workers will be as well

It is no secret, I like Portuguese food and have had plenty of experiences over the years in many good Portuguese restaurants and the Roasted Pig is a very very good Portuguese restaurant. The soups are outstanding the main courses cover all the familiar and not so familiar Portuguese entries. They are known for their roasted Pig which is only served on the weekends. If you are lucky, you might find goat on the menu, I haven’t had it there, but the Portuguese gentleman sitting next to me at the bar raved about it and from what I could see, he had good reason, it looked fabulous. Am I going back, heck yeah, with out a doubt but I will call in advance to see what the specialty of the day is cause, I want to try something unfamiliar in this very comfortable familiar eatery.

The food is amazing I consider it to be the best Portuguese restaurant in New Bedford. However this was an off night the service was off, and not just for us. Several tables were complaining about the slowness of service and general lack of attention. We even received the wrong appetizer. All in all a good experience but I expect more from this place.

As said in some other reviews, this is a restaurant by the owners of the old Café Funchal, and while not nearly as large and visually incredible, the food at The Roasted Pig is just as delicious. Funchal was a favorite for my family, and now so is The Roasted Pig. On my latest visit, my dining partner and I chose to start with the Qeuijo de Cabra(Fresh Goat Cheese-locally made) which is served with crushed red pepper relish and grilled crostini. The goat cheese is so creamy, mild and smooth, and it pairs so nicely with the crunchy crostini and relish which has a bit of a bite to it. I just most Portuguese restaurants on their Carne Porco a Alentejana(Pork Alentejana), and thankfully, The Roasted Pig passes with flying colors. Such moist and tender pork, with slightly spicy white wine sauce and potatoes, as well as fresh littlenecks, I’m not quite sure there’s anything better. If you ever get a chance, try the Roasted Pig, and more so, try the Pork Alentejana, you won’t be disappointed.

Best Portuguese food in New Bedford and that’s saying something. This place is warm and friendly, clean and consistent and always amazing. Shrimp Mozambique with house fries is my favorite dish but this place also serves up the best steak in the area along with a ton of delicious options. Specials are always good and the size of the drinks from the bar are generous. Priced reasonably, especially considering the quality and amount of what you get. If you haven’t tried this place yet you’re missing out!

We usually go to another Portuguese restaurant in the area, but that one was closed, so we decided to finally give the Roasted Pig a try. We started out with the fried calimari. Abner loved it because it has the pieces that look like little octopuses in it. We also had martinis(apple for me, espresso for Abner). Martinis were only $ 5.00! Huge too. They bring to the table a small bowl of olives and delicious Portuguese rolls too. For an entrée, I had the Pork Alejantana and Abner had the Carne Espito(hope I spelled that right). Everything was very tasty. For dessert, we got the chocolate lava cake. Perfect ending to a great meal. Our server was really nice and very attentive. He told us that they do roast a pig every weekend. Abner was all over that, so I’m sure we’ll be back for that some weekend. Portions and prices were good. Clean. There was a full bar too. It is in the middle of multi-family tenements, so it’s great that there is a parking lot in the back. We enjoyed our visit to the Roasted Pig. I highly recommend giving it a try.

Tastes just like the old Café Funchal. Delicious Mozambique(get it with the diced potatoes).

I thought Café Funchal was OK so I had to try this place out. It is very nice and clean and the service was GREAT. There is some parking but like with most New Bedford restaurants you may need to park on the streets, and they are narrow and crowded. The prices were fair to a little pricey, I think you can do much better at Fall River restaurants. Our group was split on the Fava beans appetizer, some liked that it was a little different others missed the old traditional ones. We also had the Calamari and the Chirizo, both good but hard to really mess them up. Unlike most Portuguese restaurants there wasnt a lot of bread served and it was smaller and drier than expected. The main courses were just OK too. One in the group got the pig roast that they had that day, if thats what you like it was pretty good. Another in the party for fish, it was ok for what you can get in New Bedford for fresh fish. The special steak tips? Madeiran Style? was not impressing at all. It was a good cut of meat but hardly tasted like it was marinated, seemed like it had some seasoning drizzled on it, a little. The final meal our group sampled was the Cacoila, again not a prize winner, similar to the Steak tips had some seasoning but just didnt seem authentic and really marinated and slow cooked. At least the night we went there was no wait. I know many times this place has a line and I now know I would not wait in the line, there are other places that are just as good.
