Clean, well maintained property. We have stayed there twice and will keep returning. On the beach, excellent location to food and shopping. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

The Sandspur is under new management as of July 2015. It’s your basic 50s-70s beach motel experience. Good family atmosphere, clean rooms, only steps from the ocean. I checked in expecting to have to do a complete decontamination of the room based on other earlier reviews in Unilocal.I walked through the door Lysol in hand and was pleasantly surprised with a warm room that quickly cooled with the new AC unit and the comfortable musky aroma found in just about any vacant beach room. Clean sheets, towels and carpet were present. Towels in abundance. If you’re looking for the old school family beach experience at affordable rates, you’ve found the place. No pretense at being anything they’re not. Bring the kids and water toys and leave the hustle of work and the daily grind behind.

BIGGESTDUMPINTHEOBX. RUNFASTNOWWITHYOURMONEY!!! Not only are these ‘crazy cat people’(they have 12 cats) one of which I think was rabid and tried to bite my little boy, are the RUDEST people I have ever met and clearly just raking in the money and not putting anything back into their property. Everything is original right down to the toilet seats and mattresses which have to be 30 years old. The place is falling down around you and the A/C does not work, you literally DIE at night. Holes around windows we were eaten alive by mosquitos but read on to hear the best part… Very sad to see an investment like that not maintained. We had to wipte the toilet when we arrived there was dried on pee drips all over it and the floor and the wall. Pubic hairs in the shower. I’d have to say the worst were the bed bug bites we sustained. You think you are getting a great deal because like us you were only here to enjoy the beach and sleep in the place. well when it rains for 4 of your 7 days and you have to spend it inside you realize what HOLE this place is. We took our kids to the local urgent care and they told us that they have skin infections from the bed bugs. The mattresses must be the original from the 50s as they were stiff as boards. Anyway, we have stayed at other places in the Outer Banks and it’s worth the extra $ 200-$ 300. YOUGETWHATYOUPAYFOR!!! Someone even crapped in the pool and they never shut it down. Never once saw any chlorine added to this pool, the water is foggy and disgusting. My husband killed 8 cockroaches on our last night and we packed it up and left right then. WHAT A NIGHTMARE. When we complained the crazy cat lady threw a hand full of change at us screaming«GODOSOMELAUNDRYANDLEAVEMEALONE!!!» Customer service is not in their vocabulary and every single guest we mingled with on the beach and by the pool had the same or worse stories. Absolute nightmare.

DONOTSTAYATTHISPLACE. One star is too much, but Unilocal does not offer less than that. It was $ 170 a night and for that price there is nothing in the room. No shampoo, Iron, or hair dryer. If you get the room with a kitchen you will need to wash, dry, and put away any cups or dishes you use or you will be CHARGED A RIDICULOUSFEE. On top of that– the woman who runs(And lives) at this place is ABSOLUTELY the rudest person I have ever met running a business. She was screaming at us during our checkout and was very vulgar. She obviously has some sort of a chemical imbalance.

This is the second time my husband and I have stayed here. This time with our 2 ½ year old son. I wrote a review back in 2009 and honestly if I would change anything I would say that I love this place even more now! We stayed in one of the cottages they offer and very wisely chose the week AFTER Memorial Day. The cottage was cute as can be and very clean. This place is very family friendly, very old school obx style. The owners and staff are kind and courteous. If you’re used to staying in the obnoxious McMansions down here you might not be able to appreciate The Sandspur This is the only place I will pay to stay in the obx from here on out.

«Great & affordable cottages, right on the beach at Nags Head!» I’ve stayed here twice– once in 1991 and once in 2011. Despite the 20-year intercession, I thoroughly enjoyed both visits. This most recent visit, we rented a two-bedroom cottage for two nights(Friday & Saturday) for $ 417 including all taxes. Fortunately for us, the cottage we rented had a problem that morning, so they upgraded us to their three-bedroom cottage with direct ocean-view and beach-access! All cottages come stocked with a full kitchen, appliances, flatware, etc. If you’re staying for a weekend, you get full-service, including vacuuming the rooms daily, wiping down everything, bed/linen service, towels changed out, etc. The cottages are all very clean, and every room has two double-beds, clocks, etc. The set of cottages also has a nice little pool, playground, grills, deck chairs, etc. There’s also wifi included, but you can only pick it up in front of the office. There’s also cable TV, but who watches TV at the beach? Most importantly, there’s direct access to the beach. It’s a good location, with a very short walk to an ice cream shop or quick drive to any of the other sights. It’s definitely a family-oriented place(no «gone wild video» action around, thankfully), and I was impressed at generally how quiet it was in the evenings. On both visits, I was very impressed with their service, their price, and their location– I can’t imagine now staying in a hotel in the area.
