Pizza King in Mound House is closed for good. Robert, the new owner(of about 6 – 7 years) who bought it from Nick the Greek, finally closed his doors about two weeks ago. I live in the area and was surprised to come down on a Sunday and see him moving out his equipment. He said he just couldn’t survive any longer.

My wife and I stopped for lunch today and really loved the pizza and salad. We ordered a large pizza and have enough left for bringing home for dinner. Great crust and toppings. And the owner, Roberto, is a great guy. I may buy him a vacuum cleaner for Christmas… the floor was pretty dirty. It’s the only thing that prevented me from a 5 Star rating. We moved to Minden about 6 months ago and we’ve been checking out several pizza restaurants. Pizza King is the best pizza we’ve had so far. And, I couldn’t believe the value. Total check for the 2 of us: $ 17.57.

We always went here when it was Nicks in Carson City. Decided to go here tonight and we have so much food left over thats its crazy. I was only able to eat 1⁄3 of a piece and I am stuffed. Love the salad. we’ll be back.

This used to be the best pizza on the planet — it was Nicks in Carson, then the Greek couple that owned Nicks moved their pizza out to Moundhouse and called it Pizza King. Nothing changed but the location, it was still incredibly wonderful pizza, some of the very best I’ve ever tasted. However, new people own Pizza King, so gone are the Greeks and their wonderful pizza. This pizza is okay, but it’s a shell of its former self. The sauce is different, the dough seems different, and the toppings are certainly different. Prices went up, but topping quality and quantity went down. It’s probably the best pizza in this god-forsaken town, but it’s no longer the best pizza in the world, and I will forever mourn its loss.

The best part of going to the Carson City area… this place! Sure its a dive, but the best pizza in Nevada. The prices are low and the pizza is huge, fresh toppings and friendly staff. If you had Nicks Pizza(it was around Carson city in the 1990s) you’ll love this pie. Remember that a small is the size of a large elsewhere, a large can feed 4 adults with big appetites, I don’t know if I want to see the xlarge.

Agreed, something seems amiss here, but I’m from Philly and everything in Nevada seems a bit amiss to me(no offense, I mean this in a good kind of quirky way). Had a really good pie here that definitely exceeded my admittedly low expectations(by far). Lots of high school basketball/sports pictures on the wall and lots of high school basketball conversation. Good spot to hit before throwing down some beers at the Bunny Ranch.

Martin is correct. Very good food. The pizza is well made with fresh and generous portions of ingredients. As well, the environment is quirky to say the least. At times chaotic, disorganized, and on the edge, but it seems to work like a close-to-the-apocalypse place where people go for their last meals and to watch reruns of That Seventies Show on the abundant televisions. You have the sense that something is amiss here, but you can’t quite pin what it is.

It’s difficult to believe that one can find great pizza amoung the sagebrush and brothels in Mound House, Nevada, but here it is. You’ll have to get over the appearance — both inside and out. It looks like a weird little dive, especially with the television on in the corner. Again, if you can get past this and any pre-conconceived notions about the area, you’ll enjoy some great food. I ate here 2 – 3 times in 2009; this is the basis for my review. The pizza is Chicago style, which means it’s absolutely loaded with toppings and the crust is thick. The crust is made fresh, and it serves as a delicious, fresh-loaf-of-bread substrate for all the — also fresh — toppings. The salads are also good, and the portions are very generous. The last time we ate there(April 2009) we paid $ 27.25 total for two, AND we had enough leftovers for lunch the next day. ============================================= Back tonight(09÷19÷09) for another great meal here. Small salad was PLENTY for two people. We ordered a large Deluxe(combination), and – I’m not kidding – this this weighed in at over 5 pounds, easy. We could barely eat two slices, and now we’ve got leftovers for at least two more meals at home. The pizza was about 1 ½ inches thick — piled high with fresh toppings. Crust was just-right crisp to support this mass of pizza goodness. Large pizza + small salad + pitcher of soda + tax + tip($ 3) = $ 28.54. This is about $ 10 per meal, since we’ll eat this pizza for three days. It was incredibly busy, but mostly take-out. About 2⁄3 of the tables had customers. Employees /owners still shout at each other in some Greek — Spanish — English hybrid language, I think. To add to the bizarre atmosphere, they’ve added a SECOND television, sort of stacked right next to the original. We saw Larry King and Sponge Bob at the same time. Really weird. By the way, if you’re looking for a place that is immaculate and in perfect repair, you should pass on Pizza King. I LOVE this place.
