Let me start by saying, yes, this is my 1st review on Unilocal.Secondly, we’ve eaten here many, many times and have always had a good experience and good food. Sort of a «go-to» place with friends and special occasions. We made reservations for 7:30 and when we arrived there had to be at least 20 people waiting to be seated and empty tables all over the place that were not set or cleaned off. The hostess, who was not the regular hostess, looked like she was dressed for a backyard BBQ with her red bra hanging out all over the place(sorry, but if you’re an upper scale restaurant, then you should dress like it too), was running around bussing tables and setting them. The food runners where coming out and had no idea what table to bring the food to and I observed them bringing other people’s food to the wrong table, then picking it back up and bringing to another table. We had to wait 40minutes past our reservation for a table, I get that you can’t walk in and expect to be seated right away… I’m in the service industry too and fully understand, but 40 minutes! When we were finally seated we had no glasses on our table, I had to stop someone and ask for glasses. Then the two tables next to us got their checks and both checks were not theirs. and it wasn’t even that they were switched between the two tables, they weren’t either tables check. When we finally got our glasses one of them was so filthy that the lady next to us noticed and actually made a comment. That’s when we got up and left. It’s sad bc we loved that place. It is so under staffed and mismanged and they can’t handle their new expansion.

Amazing rack of lamb last time, cooked perfectly. Very nice service too. I should probably give 5 stars, as I’ve been here 5+ times now, and have had a wonderful meal/experience every time. The BYOB factor is great, so we bring our big-boys here(Leonetti, Figgins, Haut-Bailly, etc.)…bring one of yours and enjoy!

Service was excellent. Salad was fresh. Steaks were excellent. Sides added to the meal creamed Spanish and plane teen.s. Nice mood for a Saturday night came with group of six, overall well done.

Great steaks and salads. Price is very competitive for the area.

We were two couples who all ordered the prix fixe which seemed to be a fair price until the chew toy was set in front of me. My wife and friends all ordered the filet mignon cooked medium while I decided to go with the NY strip cooked medium. I cut into my steak which looked to have a nice pink color, but the first bite was hard to chew. I asked my friend to have a try as I cut a piece off. He turned to look at me with eyes wide open and said, «that’s tough!» I had my wife give it a try hoping that eventually the steak would be tender as I cut into the steak, but not a chance. She chewed and chewed and eventually had to spit it out. The waiter came by and I told him that I could not eat my steak as it was impossible to get through and try to enjoy. He quickly offered to make amends with another choice from the menu which I originally did not take, but with a bit of insistence from my friend and persistence from our waiter I decided to order the filet mignon which was OK. While I appreciate J & K trying to make good on the bad steak nothing really stood out in taste, ambiance, or service. We ordered wild mushrooms as one of the side dishes for the table, but they were not at all wild mushrooms. The creamed spinach had too much cream cheese. With so many good steakhouses in the area that serve better cuts of meat I would not recommend this place to anyone. One other note about the wait staff is that while I appreciate our waiter offering to fix the situation with the bad cut of meat he and the other waiter were very rude from the start, but we didn’t say anything, rolling of the eyes, sighing when we asked questions. Not once did they come back to refill our wine glasses which is normal service at other restaurants whether they be BYO or not. As we were leaving the other waiter made a rude comment while we were heading towards the door, «Hey, look, the chiacchierones(Italian word meaning chatterboxes) are leaving!» I’m sure he was referring to my friend’s very loud voice and perhaps our natural ability to make friends with the couples to left and right of us. The waiter should realize where his bread is buttered and try keeping his nasty comments to himself. I guess he thought he would be a real tough guy by mouthing off AFTER we paid our bill and generously tipped the other waiter who had rolled his eyes a few times while we were asking his advice about items on the menu before ordering. The hostess, however, was fun, charming and lovable.

I feel like I have a good meal every time we come here. The service is excellent and the hostess is a total doll. We love her so much. It’s definitely better than Roots, no questions asked. A little pricey, but it’s worth it for a good steak! If you have the option to go here or Roots, don’t even think twice! Great location too… Right next to the bakery so you can zip over there for a cupcake if you’re feeling crazy after!

Great server(Ray) and a very helpful and friendly staff. The opening Caesar and Wedge Salads were large and very, very good. However, if a place is going to call itself a steakhouse and charge $ 40+ for a steak then it better be good. Unfortunately my wife’s porterhouse was both dry and tough despite it’s medium rare color. Very strange. My rib eye, while very juicy, did not quite come out the«Pittsburgh style» that I ordered. While it was a perfect medium rare inside, there was hardly any char at all on the outside. We probably should have brought it to someone’s attention and I bet they would have rectified the issue but we were dining with others and didn’t want to raise a fuss. The overall rating reflects the 4+ of everything but our steaks. My steak was about a 2.5 but the wife’s was a 1.5−2.0.

For this much money you don’t want average and J&K leaves average in the dust. Every part of our its-your-birthday-so-go-nuts meal was excellent: nice salads, perfectly aged & grilled steaks, attentive but never obtrusive service(thanks Kerin!), irresistible shoestring fries, knock-your-sox off desserts, even the espresso was outstanding. So you sink into your big leather chair, Sinatra providing the soundtrack, rip into a hot fresh roll and ponder the dilemma: $ 50 for a 3-course prix fixe, or $ 56 for 4 courses? This is a serious choice. :) But considering the red meat at the heart of those menus, specifically the 16ounce bone-in ribeye, we thought an extra appetizer would just muddy the waters so to speak. How could we possibly add a side of anything? How could we not? We tried the plantains, a generous dish of deeply caramelized chunks, perfectly ripe and gently cooked, amazing contrast to the meat. Steaks arrived together and. the medium was delivered barely pink, the rare was delivered mooing, the medium-rare was exactly so. That just may be a first for me, seeing a kitchen get the meat correct for everyone. Kudos. My ribeye was tender, hot, a bit charred, an umami-bomb and yet(surprisingly) not encrusted with a salt layer, seasoning was gentle. But the filet mignon was really the star of the table — hugely tall, perfectly grilled, not some little mushy hockey puck oh no, this beautiful bit of beef made me completely rethink my negative attitude towards filet. Only one very minor complaint: Caesar salads were only average, the dressing was just good(altho the croutons were great). I know this is the standard steakhouse choice, but I suggest you try the house green salad or soup instead. Vegetarian rating: let’s be serious here, this is a temple to charred animal protein, these are not your people. But if you must, I’d rate it 2 stars because there are genuine entrees: grilled egplant gratin and vegetarian linguine. So you won’t just be eating french fries(even tho they’re awesome). Among the desserts, I’d have to say the chocolate molten cake was truly the biggest flavor item, deeply rich and bitter chocolate married well with ice cream on top. Crème brûlée also very good; cheesecake and bread pudding not quite up to the standard set by those other two. Wow. But as well as we ate, as much as we enjoyed it, as welcome as they made us feel, I confess the $$$$ price tag will limit our visits. and that’s why not 5 stars.

Meh. We ate here on a Saturday night in April and the place was very busy. They did not have enough servers and as a result they were not as attentive as they should have been. That said, the food was good but not great. We opted for the three course, $ 50 prix fixe menu. My Caesar salad was big and cheesy, but nothing I haven’t had a million times before. The house salad was better. The NY strip steaks were tasty, but I think were not prime quality as advertised in the menu, and mine was more medium than the medium rare I ordered. The truffles cream spinach($ 10) was outstanding, though, and the fries were good. Desserts, Crete brûlée and apple bread pudding, were both bland and underwhelming. Worth a try, but I don’t feel compelled to eat there again.

Absolutely perfect.. White tablecloths. Great vibe. Loved the Prix Fix menu. Had a beautiful Wedge Salad, Filet Mignon, Creamed Spinach(my choice) and a creamy Crème Brulee for Dessert — all for $ 50. It is BYOB which makes is even better. The Maitre D — Susan was such a delight. There were 5 of us at a round table toward the front window. Service was exceptional. Will come again when in town. Note: You can dress up or dress down — your choice.

I’ve been here quite a few times now and every time the steak has been cooked perfectly. The service is always impeccable. There’s a couple options for steak in or near Morristown, but J&K is the best IMO. Roots has the nicest ambience, Ruth’s Chris has the biggest menu, but J&K has the flavor. And as a BYOB with a $ 503-course pre fixe option, it’s surprisingly the cheapest.

One of the few upscale steakhouses in the area that accepts online reservations through Open Table. It’s also BYOB which is great. I came here for Valentines Day 2015 for the Pre-fix. Starter– Tuna tartar– very fresh and flavorful Steak– I went with the 22 oz bone-in rib eye. Good flavor on the crust. I ordered it medium rare, although they brought it out fairly undercooked. I sent it back and they tossed it on the broiler for another minute and it came out just right. No harm no foul. The only reason I didn’t give place wasn’t 5 stars was that both myself and my date felt very rushed throughout the meal, as our servers were hovering far too much. In addition, the food came out way too quickly. I seemed like they were just trying to get us out, while we were trying to enjoy the rare occasion of eating at an upscale steakhouse. If I didn’t keep waving them away, Im pretty sure we could have been in and out after 3 courses in 20 minutes.

3.5 Stars. Biggest advantage of this steakhouse is that it is BYOB. Prix fix menu was a good value. My fillet was a little under medium rare, the quality was good, but it lacked seasoning. Overall, I thought everything I ordered was under seasoned. The lava cake dessert was the best part of the meal. Service was good. The place is just VERY cold; they either keep the heat low or the heat just doesn’t work properly. I may give them another try.

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Morristown. The food is great, its BYOB and the staff is warm, welcoming and friendly. I’ve also had a couple parties here and they accommodate large groups easily.

So I preface this review by mentioning I have been to J&K 4 – 5 times and have had great experiences. In fact, I’ve often recommended this restaurant to friends, family and coworkers seeking a quality steakhouse. With that said, my most recent dining experience left me disappointed. The food quality is still high — from the appetizers(Caprese) to the steak(NY Strip) to theirs sides(Truffle spinach is their hallmark). What’s unfortunate is how sub-par their service has become. Inattentive and rude, my friends and I had to ask repeated times for our water to be filled, our wine to be uncorked, and bread to be delivered. When our entrees were served, the waiter had confused our steaks orders(including some specific cooking requests) forcing us to pass plates around after cutting the meat open. While it was a Friday night and the restaurant was fairly full, our table just seemed an afterthought. J&K used to have excellent, very personal service. Prior to this dining experience, I came with my family after running a marathon. Our waiter was engaging, knowledgable of the menu, prompt and accommodating to every request. I don’t know if employee turnover has caused their service to deteriorate, but it certainly failed to meet our expectations this time.

First off — I’m a «pescatarian» and my boyfriend is not. So it made sense for me to order a la carte and for him the 4 course pre fix. Also a nice steal to bring a bottle of wine to lessen the price of the total bill. Garlic Shrimp, Green Salad, 14 oz NY strip, & cheescake. Paying the price of $ 56 for all this delicious food is a steal. We’ve been to many steakhouses and he commented this was the first steak that was consistently cooked medium rare. I ordered calamari, tilapia, and chocolate molten lava cake with vanilla ice cream. Shortly after the tilapia and moving into dessert I felt extremely sick and rushed to leave. Not sure what I was feeling but it was a lot of aching in my stomach. Tax & Tip = $ 127 We will return.

Tried to buy a $ 100 gift certificate by phone for my parents who live nearby this restaurant. I was told they don’t do gift certificates over the phone and turned down my business. They appear to be living in the past — would suggest they address this.
