Outstanding! First timer. And absolutely loved it. Shrimp cocktail was amazing! We tried lobster bites(not sure of the exact name, but it was an appetizer) that was also very good. Huge meaty shrimp. Great steak selection. And cooked to perfection. African lobster tail like no other lobster you’ll ever have. Large wine selection. And cake to die for We had the carrot cake and the chocolate peanut butter(they are huge)! Highly recommend! Well worth the money!

Bring a scale to weigh your steak. 14 oz bone in filet was like a 6oz petite. Done in 3 bites. Salty mashed potatoes. Ordered chocolate cake… Stale! Excuse me please don’t shove the check in front of me until I ask. Gets better… He grabs it while I am still sitting here. Not feeling rushed at all. Training needed! Ambience nice but won’t be coming back.

One of my favorite places in Morristown. I had creamed spinach here for the first time ever and it was life changing. From our bartender, Ryan, recommending a great wine to the steak we had — it was a fabulous experience.

Wow ! From the first bite till the last — so good! The short ribs as an appetizer are amazing and the porter house for two is cooked to perfection. They offer sauce but none is needed when it comes to this amazing entrée. Better come here hungry because it’s a lot of food and worth every penny !

Still think that Tabor Tavern is the best in the Harvest group. Found the bartender nice but not attentive. Never offered or gave water while we ate but other couples on either side got water. When we asked for the check we were ignored. Just not always great whether you go to the one in Summit or Morristown.

Of course the food was fresh! The seafood tower is very fresh! You will need to take home a Doggy bag for sure. Service is too notch but can get very crowded. The bar area is the best

Being to the one in Ridgewood I just remember having a better overall experience there. Perhaps it has been a menu change over that time frame? Either way, I found Roots in Morristown to be a solid Steakhouse experience. Starting with a caesar salad and moving into a roasted 12oz prime rib with a whipped sweet potato side dazzled with toasted pecans on the top was good and I actually found the side to be the most memorable part of the meal. Serving sizes, even choosing the 12oz rib eye, were satisfying to the point where I still took some home after dinner. Morristown has come a long way over the past 10 plus years and South Street can be a real logjam. If you are coming here during primetime your best bet is to duck through the side streets and loop around to the Dehart garage instead of taking the direct route.

Roots continues to be our go-to steakhouse. Service is always superb and food is consistently delicious and perfectly cooked. We have sat in the front and back and definitely prefer the back room. It is not as «busy» and a bit quieter. Our last visit we were served by Monty. He was, by far, one of the best servers I have ever had. He did not up sell(which I despise), but rather gave his honest opinion. He was attentive and helpful, making our dining experience just perfect.

In full disclosure, I’m a huge fan of Harvest Group restaurants. I’ve been to all of them, and while The Huntley Taverne remains my favorite, Root’s is a close second. I’ve been to all three locations and I’m not sure one has a leg up one the other two in terms of quality, though the one in Ridgewood seems to be by far the biggest in terms of seating capacity. We sat at the bar and started with the French onion soup and the beet salad. The soup was heavy on the onion and light on the broth, which was fine by me. Nice presentation on the crock, too. For dinner, we shared the 24 oz. prime rib and an order of the hand cut fries. Why get the 12 oz. cut for $ 26 when we could split the 24 oz. cut for just $ 10 more at $ 36? No brainer. Let me tell you, folks … this thing was the size of a tennis racket. Either the chef got au jus in his eyes while carving the rib or else the scale was broken because this bad boy had to be closer to 36 oz. I intentionally asked for it rare for two reasons: 1) that’s how I like it. And 2) I knew we weren’t going to finish it. Sure enough, it came out mooing and we had to pack up about half of it with some extra au jus for the next day. Overall, our cut had awesome flavor and wasn’t fatty unlike other prime rib I’ve had. Plus, it was served on the bone, which is about as rare as the temperature was on our rib. Kudos to Root’s for sticking to the roots of what makes a steakhouse a great steakhouse. We split the chocolate layer cake for dessert, which wasn’t a whole lot smaller than the prime rib. People at the bar were looking at us like we were participants in the annual Nathan’s hot dog eating contest. C’mon, people. We shared! Did we really look that fat? Between all that food, a beer, a cocktail and a glass of wine, I was expecting the total to be the equivalent of Donald Trump’s mortgage, even though he’s probably never had a mortgage. But, for $ 120, we left full, and with about 16 oz. of leftover steak and some cake to top it off. Ryan took great care of us. I would recommend him if you sit at the bar, or Bob, who could easily be the twin brother of Giants Offensive Coordination Ben McAdoo.

We came here for my friends birthday on a Tuesday night and it was packed! Make sure you have a reservation if coming for dinner. We were greeted right away and seated. Our servers did a wonderful job and provided some nice recommendations. The popovers are incredible much better than any bread I’ve ever had prior to a meal at a restaurant. We ordered drinks and they were very good. The wine prices looked a bit high even for a steakhouse so we opted for cocktails. They were delicious! I ordered a fish which was just ok and others ordered the steak which was very tender. We ordered a side of asparagus which was very oily(I was surprised since it was supposed to be grilled). Our service was fabulous. The two serves we had came around just the right amount of times to ensure that we were taken care of and check in to see how we were doing. At the end we were pretty full for dessert, but they still brought over a plate of cookies with Happy Birthday on the plate. It was a very nice ending to the night.

The friendly wait staff comes to your table with a fresh popover and right away suggest an appetizer to begin with. Excellent service and very fair lunch prices. I ordered the lump crab salad, I subbed the thousand island dressing for balsamic vinaigrette and I could seriously eat that salad every day for lunch.

The service is on point. Oyster app was fresh and served very quickly. Food is incredible. Cooked exactly to temperature. Sides are generous and hot. Plan to spend some money, however this is one of the best steak houses I have ever been to so it is well worth the money.

Really Really delicious. I’ve been to a few big name steakhouses and this place does it as good as any. Beautiful char on the outside, cooked properly on the inside. I had the wet aged cowboy(a bone-in ribeye steak). It was huge and my only regret is not taking some home. I, instead, took it as a challenge to finish the entire thing haha. My friends and I also shared the creamed spinach, twice baked potato, and the whipped mashed potatoes which were exactly simple and perfect. If you’re in the area — don’t miss out. It was quite busy though, on a saturday night — we walked in at 7 and to a seating at 9:30, so I do recommend planning better than we did.

I was in Morristown visiting friends. I wanted to have dinner before we left and Roots seemed like a good choice. It was not bad. «Meh, I’ve experienced better», seems about right. The first thing that tipped me off that it might not be that good a steak restaurant was when the waitress was describing the food she mentioned with pride that they served«Corn Fed Beef» cows do not eat corn naturally and as we know, all those stomachs are for grass. Corn also increases e. coli astronomically. If you are serving corn fed beef you may not want to mention that… I did not have the beef, I had the Lamb. Though for $ 33 I expected a rib cut as most places serve now, that being said the loin cut of lamb was done very well, a nice char, and perfect medium pink inside. The vegetables we remarkable, and the desert was good. I would probably not go back, but this is by no means a warning to stay away, it is that Roots is simply second rate.(At the price of a first rate steakhouse).

I’d like to start off by saying I would do 3.5 if possible. I might have bumped it up to 4, but I probably won’t be returning. My SO took me here for my birthday — «linner,» let’s call it — and I was pretty excited. We’re steak people and have been wanting to give this place a try for awhile. It was Sunday, around lunch, so it was pretty quiet. We loved the atmosphere, but I’m going to be one of those people who criticizes them for being pretentious. It doesn’t fit right. I can’t really explain it, but it felt awkward. Anyway, I ordered the lobster bisque, and I was extremely disappointed. It was thin and watery. We laughed at the one lump of lobster. I was also a bit miffed at the waiter. He was nice and pleasant, but since we like to frequent steakhouses I’m used to «shared» sides. After my SO ordered 2 twice-baked potatoes, I asked if the sides were meant to share(which is sosososo common for this menu layout! Come on!). I got a look and was told that they’re meant for 1 side per person, so my SO listened and went with the order. When it came out, it was HUGE! Even if it is meant to be 1 per person, I was questioning it for a reason — perhaps he could have warned me with how big it was! We also green beans to have a semi-healthy side, and those were a bit skimpy. We would have been more than okay splitting the potato. Whenever we go to this style place for an occasion, we always order the«Porterhouse for Two» option because we are a schmoopy couple who like to share. I became depressed at the first bite. I think maybe my expectations were high because of hearing the buzz and seeing the menu. It wasn’t bad, it simply wasn’t what I had expected. All in all, I’d like to say that I had a nice time there. We were far too stuffed to look at the dessert menu, but they wouldn’t let us leave with giving me a nice plate with«Happy Birthday» written across the top in chocolate, a scoop of vanilla ice cream(which was really delicious) and a few of their fudge cookies. They were SO good I made room for them. Really the best part. This is a good place to go if you want to eat lunch or dinner, hang out a bit, and maybe shop around Morristown afterwards. If you want really well-prepared steak and all around deliciousness for the same price, go to Ruth’s Chris. The restaurant itself is more dated, but at least it lives up to the price and quality, and it’s close by. Roots just isn’t for me.

My girlfriend and I were in Morristown for the weekend, and when searching for a place to have dinner, I found Roots — hadn’t heard of it before, though I’m also new to the area. The reviews on Unilocal seemed great, and their website was inviting — with a menu that checked the boxes for what we wanted to enjoy. Making a reservation was a good idea, as it appeared that this place can book up for popular evenings. Greeted by a friendly host on the telephone, booking was easy. Good start. When we got there, we were greeted with professionalism and shown to our table — the décor is pretty, subdued lighting though not too dark. We arrived early evening, so the noise level was perfect, just enough background ambiance, without being intrusive at all. Our waiters were well-presented, professional, and entirely in command of the menu. We were served a delicious brioche — the recipe would be one to keep if you could get it. Both started with French onion soup, which was surprisingly sweet — for the better, in my mind, as opposed to being on the salty end. My girlfriend then had the 12oz filet mignon, and I had the 16oz NY strip — both were seasoned well, cooked to our request, fantastic. We shared sides of potato au gratin, sweet corn, and spinach with garlic — all presented well, and enjoyable additions to our feast. The wine list is not exhaustive, but certainly has a good selection — they also have wine by the glass. We settled for a bottle of Chianti, which we both enjoyed as an accompaniment to our steaks. As an addendum, I received a follow-up call from their manager today, checking in to see if our experience was to our liking, and if we had any suggestions for improvement. That to me is a sign of impeccable customer service, which I realize is something that this place does to the highest level. Simply put — fantastic dining experience, and we’ll be back to celebrate another special occasion here.

My boyfriend’s family took us there to celebrate his birthday. I had high expectations given how expensive the menu was but ended up being completely disappointed. Our waiter was nice and the restaurant itself was nice, but the food came out completely wrong. I ordered a filet mignon — medium(and made sure to ask how much«pink» there would be) and it came out so rare the middle wasn’t even warm. My boyfriend’s rib-eye came out well done, and he asked for medium rare. The lobster was so overcooked you had to chew it for 10 minutes. The appetizers were the only acceptable part. The worst part of our experience was the manager — Mike Oliver. When we told showed him how under-cooked my steak was, he was very rude and replied that most people like rare steak and walked away. For $ 50, I expect my food to be cooked the way I order it. I couldn’t even eat it. There are many other places to eat in this area. I will never go back there again.

Wow, the reviews for Roots are all over the place. Some of them rip the place for being pretentious(while being super-pretentous themselves) and others for being too casual. Guess what??? This isn’t a NY steakhouse like Morton’s so why compare the two? This isn’t Manhattan, Morristown doesn’t TRY to be Manhattan. I don’t compare my local sushi place to the fresh off the boat place I ate in California. Come on folks, it’s a Steakhouse in Morristown. Went here with my wife two weeks ago for a hot date night(we don’t get out enough)…and the food was fabulous-though pricey. We started off with a couple of drinks at the table and my Barrel-aged Rye Manhattan was delicious and my wife’s Prosecco was an out-of-the-ordinary selection, but she loved it. I will say that Roots can get loud and the acoustics don’t make it easy to hear the waiters, but we managed. My wife ordered the beet salad and I had the Ahi Tuna for appetizers and the tuna was done to perfection. For our entrees we both had filets(8 oz for her and 12oz for me), medium rare of course, and they were as good as the filets at Rod’s in Madison-absolutely perfect. We also enjoyed sides of whipped potatoes and garlic spinach which were good, but didn’t knock me out of my seat. The wines we chose complemented the meal nicely(I had a Malbec and she had the Roots house blend, which was surprisingly bold). The Sommelier was great and very helpful with our choices. We finished the meal with Apple Crisp for dessert and the strongest Irish Coffee I have ever had… actually too strong. So my one negative for the evening was that during our meal our waiter went out for a smoke break. Neither my wife nor I smoke so we are pretty sensitive to it… and while I don’t really care if the guy went OUT for a smoke, I don’t appreciate him bringing the smoky odor back in with him as I am trying to enjoy my meal. All-in-all, it was an excellent meal, but not quite the five star evening I wanted to give the place.
