Continuing the death tour of 2013÷2014… I can’t say I’m too surprised FL shut down. The location was an issue and the meat/sauce was the only saving grace. The pulled pork was good on its own but the addition of either the mustard, smoky or sweet sauce brought it up a few levels. The sides, though, just weren’t very good. The cornbread was dry. The jalapeño mac & cheese was gummy and the cole slaw was bland. They had a decent beer menu(bottles) so for a sandwich and suds, FL wasn’t a bad choice. For everything else… well…

I went there one night and ordered the Texas Beef Brisket. It was my first time ever having a brisket so it was a new experience. The service was friendly and the food is brought to your table after you order. I had a side of coleslaw and a side of Bacon Mac n’ Cheese. The food ended up being pretty good. It was kind of empty when I went there for dinner. There was only one family and there occasional customer here and there that was there to pick up their take out order. The ambiance is very casual and would go there again.

I was really looking forward to liking this place. Having a good BBQ place near it would have been great. So disappointed. I came here one night when I’ve been craving BBQ all day. I have heard all the reviews and was excited to try it. First. I order everything to go and in a matter of minutes they forgot and gave me everything in plates to it in. The first thing I had was the chilli. Although good, it was a bit on the sour side. The only thing that merited a picture. The rest of the meal from the ribs to the chicken was disappointing. I could go on but Stephen S review pretty much sums it up.

Really good BBQ is hard to find in Miami. I saw the good reviews and decided to stop by after work. There was NOONE in this joint which was a bit weird. I think they do well for lunch being across from MDC Kendall Campus but apparently not for dinner. Anyway, I got the Carolina Pulled Pork with Hand-cut Fries and the Bacon Mac & Cheese. It was all really good. Perfect portion, good prices and really good sauces to go with it. I also got a free drink using a Unilocal coupon. All in all, its a great place and I will be back when I am in the area.

Fuego Lento BBQ is currently my new favorite Barbeque joint in Miami. It is relatively new so the hype hasn’t built up yet, but it is definitely something worth trying out. If you’re in the Kendall area and in the mood for good/affordable BBQ I would definitely suggest you stop by. You can’t go wrong with the Fuego Lento Burger or the off-the-menu Chicken and Waffles.

The chili is amazing and the Fuego lento burger is also amazing! I’ve also tried the St. Louis spare ribs, yum! Only BBQ around, it’s about time.

This place Is amazing since I first went two weeks ago I have been hooked. Every time I go in I order something new and it never disappoints! If you guys haven’t tried this place out you are missing out on some delicious food! Coming from a college student on a budget let me tell you that the prices are pretty good. What you would waste at McDonald’s you can spend it here for better real food that you will die for. Like I said you guys must try this place out its delish

A lot to say so bear with me. Intro: Clean, super clean. It is a new spot with a lot of space, and the menu as seen on the many pictures on Unilocal is extensive. They also have some ‘secret’ items not on the menu.(Like Chicken and Waffles, and at least two secret BBQ sauces they keep behind the counter– beware they are pretty hot) Unilocal Coupon: Came here using the Unilocal discount, and they had no problem at all with it. It was very quiet(as I said they opened up this month). Owner was cool, and joked a lot. I changed my order about four different times but they were patient. Now the Food: Great! Chicken was great, juicy, and a great appetizer. The manager took the temperature of every single wing(i never saw that before). I had their specialty burger, I asked for Medium, and it was cooked great, just enough pink. My Wife thought it was too sweet… her loss. I ate her Ribs anyway they were big and juicy. Not sure why but I also wanted to try toe Jalapeño poppers. Be warned these are not like you are used to. They are literally fresh jalapenos that are stuffed with cream cheese. I am used to a lot milder, but I liked them. They were too hot for the Wife. Sides: Mac and Cheese could use more spices, it was just ok. Fries were great! Not to mention everything is prepared as soon as you order, nice touch. That is all for now, but In short, you gotta try it out. And I forgot the Waffles last time I went looking at all the options but I will not forget again!!!

I guess I went in on the wrong day. Ordered the pulled chicken with a side of fries and Corn Bread. What I got was excessively… Excessively dry chicken. Excessively dry corn bread that just crumbled into pieces I’d even dare to say it was stale.(i had never had such dry cornbread, could probably knock someone out if i threw it) and excessively greasy and soggy fries. my friend had the brisket. she couldnt even eat it. I know its a new business but the food was horrible and the ambiance was equally terrible. the one thing Ill give them is the service which was good

OK, here comes the little Texan in me… First of all, they lose a star for cutting it wrong(seriously, just read the title and subtitle of the article in Texas Monthly linked at the bottom); It took all my strength not to look up at the owner when he delivered my plate, who didn’t seem like he was having a great day, and say, «What the hell is this? ’cause it sure ain’t bbq brisket and it is MOSTCERTAINLYNOTTEXASSTYLEANYTHING!» Barbecue Brisket, ESPECIALLYINTEXAS, but really as a matter of propriety, is cut against the grain into slices. If I wanted ropa vieja, there are 6,427 other places I could have walked into to to get it. They are simply doing it wrong and there’s no excuse. Proper cutting eliminates toughness, promotes juiciness, illuminates flavor and facilitates eating, not to mention the fact that it proliferates the edges, which are a major part of the barbecue brisket-eating experience. Much like Champagne can only come from France, I am of the firmest of beliefs that you can’t call your $h!T Texas ‘Cue if you ain’t never been to Texas! It was long, stringy, pulled, smoked brisket of beef drowned in BBQ sauce. Now, some of you may be saying to yourselves that that doesn’t sound half bad… Let me be clear… It didn’t necessarily taste bad… But it was far, far, far from authentic, and tasted nothing like barbecue… It tasted like meat drenched in BBQ sauce. If you ask what the difference is between meat drenched in BBQ sauce and barbecue… Sorry, just had an aneurysm… My point is that this is an easy fix and a glaring failure, illustrative of these folks’ inexperience with their product. Glaring failure #2, no pickles, onions, jalapeños and toast… Again, walk into any Texas or true Texas-style place and you will find the condiment rack with these 4 staples(usually the toast comes from behind the counter, but you see my point). The chicken was nothing special, and on top of that, I got a pile of indecipherable pieces of dark matter that didn’t seem to have much smoke in ‘em. The mac & cheese was flavorless and nearly cheeseless. The coleslaw was ok. In case, you’re wondering what my point is, it’s this: the food wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t what I expected/hoped it would be and it really didn’t even get the easy stuff right, so I’m not even going to discuss smoke rings and burnt ends. My recommendation is for the proprietor to invest in a trip for he and his team to visit any town in Texas and try some ‘cue and then to look at what they’re producing and ask themselves if they should really have the words«Texas brisket» on their wall. If you call it your interpretation or that these omissions were the result of anything other than ignorance, then best of luck to you and I’m never coming back. If you want smoked meat smothered in sauce, go for it. Sometimes I do. Just don’t think you’re getting barbecue, Texas or otherwise. And I’d avoid the chicken and the mac & cheese… Edumacate yerself…

A new barbecue place in Miami, with a great rating, it’s a must try. But as you can see, it did not hold up to my expectations. The food was clearly OK, with some dishes that were good, and some that were … OK. A couple of the great items on the menu were the sweet potato fries and the Fuego Lento BBQ burger. The sweet potato fries were made from red sweet potatoes, they almost looked like a halved sweet potato that was fried. The flavor remained intact without tasting greasy. The burger was good, a bit below average when in comes to size, but it was topped with cheese, bacon, and pulled pork. Now, if the burger wasn’t topped with the pulled pork, it would have been a mediocre bacon cheeseburger, but the pulled pork basically pulled it together and made it a delicious burger. Quick recommendation: get the pulled pork sandwich. I would also give an honorable mention to the baked beans, which were more on the home made style, yet had a hint of molasses, or brown sugar. Among the other items I tried were the pulled turkey, which was a good item on the menu, if you want to stay on the«healthy» side. The bacon mac n cheese was decent, too smoky for my palate. The French fries were weird, a bunch were hard, and they were seasoned and had a dark color instead of the traditional gold. The corn bread was maybe a little dry, but just a little. I found it to be similar in taste to the ones I’ve had in the South, which is not sweet, but not salty like regular bread. But, really, I came here for the ribs. They were definitely generous. You absolutely cannot beat the price. No way. Unfortunately, I came here for taste, not to get filled up in OK ribs. Yes, they were cooked well. Yes, they were smoky. But they had a strange texture. It is clearly stated St. Louis Style ribs, and maybe that is one of the reasons why I didn’t find them to be to my liking. The meat may have been heavily sauced, but I wasn’t crazy for the taste. Additionally, the sauces were a bit too acidic, and a bit bland. Some BBQ places like to balance the meats with the sauces. Fuego Lento doesn’t know how to do that, yet. Overall, this is a good restaurant with very generous portions, with some items that are great. The ribs were not stellar, but if they work on their seasonings and their sauces, they could greatly improve. It is not a must try, but it’s a great place to get some pulled pork.

Came here for lunch and this place was just alright. The place is very clean and the wonderful smell of smoke is in the air. The menu is very limited and everything, except for the ribs of course, is pulled even the brisket which I found disapointing. I had the brisket sandwich which came with fries and coleslaw. Like I mention the brisket was pulled but had a nice smoked flavor to it. The fries were salty and the coleslaw lacked flavor… big time! Another thing I did not care for is that they do not have the sauces on the table. You have to ask for it and they do not have very many bottles of it. If another table has them you may be out of luck. When I asked for sauce, they brought me one kind, I think it was the sweet one. I like it spicy so when I asked for hot bbq sauce I was told that they did not have it. They only have sweet, smokey and mustard base. I chose the mustard base and it was pretty good. I had a little bit of a kick to it. I am not sure I would go out of my way to come here again, but worth a try if you are in the area.

I’m going to be as objective as possible so I dont want my critism to be viewed as harsh, but I grew up in the restaurant business and I know how hard it is to succeed and would love for this place to do so. Pros-great location for those of us living in kendall since our choice of bbq is extremely limited. Actual entrees my hubs and i had were very delicious and very tender(st. louis spare ribs and brisket platter). Option of fountain soda or bottled is great since i dont drink much with dinner but the hubs could swallow a 2-litre on his own. They took my Unilocal voucher without any issues. Service was quick. Staff was friendly. Cons-the side dishes just seemed to miss the mark, which is sad because the have the potential to be amazing with some slight modifications. The bacon mac and cheese, sounds delicious, looks delicious, but lacks flavor. A little more salt and careful choice of cheese could make all the difference. The cornbread, i like mine sweet, this one is not, which is fine, cornbread doesnt need to be sweet, but it was dry, which is a shame because i had that nice crunch on the bottom crust but was just way too dry. The hand cut fries-plentiful portion, taste like real hand cut potatoes but the oil temp they were fried in should have been a little higher. They were more greasy than crispy and the grease over powers the real potato flavor. Otherwise, i would have liked to have been given the choice of condiments(salt, bbq sauce, ketchup, etc) but its not available on an accesible counter and our food runner didnt offer any. When i approached the counter to ask for some bbq sauce, although nice, the person gave me waffle syrup(i understand they also serve fried chicken and waffles). Unfortunately, we realized it after my hubs poured some over his spare ribs. Overall, i found that the entrees were very tasty and fall of the bone tender, but the sides just left more to be desired. I really want this place to succeed, its across mdc kendall so they should get a lot of student business but students arent going to spend $ 12 on «ok» food when there are cheaper options. Good luck Fuego Lento, i might return just to give it a second chance. You never know when sometimes its just a bad day.

I got my food to go and ate it 20 minutes later, so keep that in mind for my review. I ordered the St. Louis spare ribs with Mac and cheese and sweet potato fries and also tried the mild cornbread and baked beans. The ribs were tasty and falling off the bone tender, they also gave me three BBQ sauces so each bite was different, which was nice. The sweet potato fries were thick cut and pretty good, so were the baked beans. The corn bread was dry and bland. The Mac and cheese was a big let down, soft noodles, hard dry cheese, and hardly any flavor. I’d say this place is on par with shorty’s in terms of food quality(but much better in terms of service). You get a lot of food for the price and the ribs are yumm so its worth going if you’re in the area and have a hankering for BBQ.

Stopped by Fuego Lento last week after a buddy recommended it. Ohh man! All I know is I better start working out now. I’ve gone there twice more and so far I’ve tried the fuego lento burger, pulled pork, and brisket chili. Great food at a decent price. Truly quality barbecue — great enough to make me write my first Unilocal review.

Finally a BBQ joint worthy of making my weekly rotation! I was lucky to be passing by when I noticed this new spot where the smell of smoked briscket and St. Louis ribs made me instantly drool. Was not dissapointed with their their fried onion strings either. Will be definitely back sooner rather than later. The owner operator is very friendly and definitely knows what he is doing, the bbq falls right apart in your mouth. He even mentioned eventually introducing weekly specials like chicken fried waffles! Say no more I will be back to try it and will let you know. This is going to be Kendall’s first true smokehouse BBQ, my prayers have finally been answered. Thank you Fuego Lento!
