I went to today for breakfast to find out they have a brunch menu on Saturdays and Sundays as well as a dinner menu Thursday thru Saturdays! The menu looked amazing and had unique items as well as classics. I love it here because you can taste the freshness in each bite. The portions are not huge but that is because of the high quality of ingredients. I had the blue corn muffins that had a spicy habenero jam. They were 3 small muffins and each bite was amazing. I will definitely come back to try more on the menu and the dinner menu too.

Jugofresh R+D Kitchen is currently a pop-up test-kitchen of sorts for the local juice/healthy eats chain. Located at their South Pointe location in South Beach, R+D Kitchen is only open for dinner Thursday through Sunday, and for brunch on the weekends. The whole idea of R+D Kitchen is that the cuisine is plant-based — so everything is vegetarian, and even vegan-friendly! The dishes use a lot of nuts, so if that’s an allergy that’s of concern to you or your dining party, make sure you let the staff know. The menu changes on a regular basis as the Jugofresh chef tries out different dishes. I am not a vegetarian by any means, but I was blown away by the inventiveness, creativity, and the sheer tastiness of R+D Kitchen’s offerings. We opted to start with the coconut ceviche, which uses tender coconut meat as the«fish,» and is accompanied by kale, cantaloupe, jalapeño, and avocado with a citrus-based sauce. This was quite tasty, but as we got to the bottom of the dish, the avocado began to really push out all other flavors of the dish. A less heavy hand on that could really push this dish over the edge. For our main courses, I opted for the hamburguesa, which was a spicy veggie burger, topped with spicy cashew cheese, jackfruit salsa, chipotle ketchup, a bit of mustard and some pickles, on perfectly toasted Ezekiel bread, with dehydrated onion flax rings accompanying it. It was so, so good. It was also quite spicy, so be warned. My friend went with the masa tamale, which was a smashed black bean tamale, with a pepper sauce, served atop a kale salad loaded with avocado, tossed with a hemp dressing. It was equally delicious. We both cleared our plates in record time. R+D Kitchen does not have a liquor license at present, but they offer a menu of mocktails for imbibing. They were hesitant when I inquired about BYOB, but that may change. The service was incredibly friendly, and really outstanding. Every single server we interacted with was enthusiastic and seemed very passionate about the food and our enjoyment of our meal. It was a breath of fresh air in South Beach, to say the least. Prices are on the high side, especially considering the portion size. If you’re a fan of Jugofresh, this should not be surprising to you. Appetizers range in the $ 12-$ 15 range, with main dishes running $ 18-$ 22. Parking in this area can be a challenge, especially on weekends. There are plenty of public lots and metered street parking, but they go quickly. Jugofresh R+D Kitchen is doing something really unique and fun in South Beach. Whether you’re a vegetarian, a vegan, something in-between, or nowhere close to either, this place is worth checking out. The food is delicious, and the service can’t be beat!
