Really good food .the filet mignon was so tender could get it with a fork probably highlight of the meal the crab cakes where okay nothing to write home about. The duck was very okay probably the only reason I cant give 5 stars

Felt disappointed. Made a reservation that the hostess«couldn’t find»(had to show her the email confirmation). Ordered a bottle of wine only to have the waitress come back and report they were out of it. Champagne cocktail wasn’t really. Ambience was so-so, nothing special or memorable. Food was definitely the best part. Recommend the field greens with almond-crusted warm goat cheese and bacon(yum!), fresh tomato gazpacho, and pork chop with herb butter. Portions were big, which isn’t always the case with this type of restaurant, and savory. Kudos to Chef Luis Lopez!

We got food poisoning from the sturgeon. We were warned by a local not to go but went anyway because it’s so cute. It’s such a shame, the property is cosy and the staff are very warm but the food is far below par for the area and price. And we were very very sick which meant spending our last full day in Mendocino in bed, and incredibly uncomfortable which really put a damper on an otherwise romantic weekend. The fish felt off at dinner… Turns out, it was. Love the property but won’t be eating here again, and sadly we really wouldn’t recommend it. Got to Trillium or Mcullum house.

We used Café Beaujolais for a private wedding dinner. It was fantastic! The service was very attentive and comfortable and the private room in the back was perfect for how we wanted to celebrate our day. The planning was very easy too, we had a couple not-so-friendly interactions with other restaurants in town in regards to a private room, but Café Beaujolais was so friendly, responsive and easy to work with. And of course, the food and wine were delicious!

Our favorite spot in Mendecino and arguably one of our favorite lunch spots period. It’s so quaint and the food is amazing. The short rib sandwich is yummy but this time we had the duck leg confit appetizer and the bacon Brie baguette sandwich… delicious. The absolute best though is their coconut cream pie… I might dream about this pie. It is a must do if you are in the area.

Wonderful food, lovely wines and very attentive staff. Had a beautiful view from the back room into the gardens. Everything was excellent(Sturgeon was superb)… apart from the lava cake, which was a bit disappointing(more like a chocolate muffin with chocolate sauce). Definitely a recommend and definitely will be back!

Small nice little spot in Mendocino. Service is awesome. Food is perfect. Drinks are well balanced. I would definitely recommend this place for a special night. Book a table in advance if you can.

The hostess and waitress were welcoming and pleasant. Appetizers: The Local Dungeness Crab Cakes were tasty and the Butter Braised Beets were delicious. Entrees: My husband ordered the Petaluma Duck Two Ways. He enjoyed the Crispy Skin Breast which was cooked exactly right. However, the Leg de Confit was overcooked and the Garden Greens were mushy. I was disappointed with the Pan Roasted California Sturgeon Fillet. It would have been a great entrée if the fish had some flavor, the Tagliatelle wasn’t overcooked and the Truffle Emulsion Wild Forest Mushroom wasn’t so bland and runny. Dessert: The evening’s special, blueberry bread pudding with whisky sauce, was pretty good. Based on the positive reviews on Unilocal,I assume our dining experience isn’t the norm.

Average food but seriously awful waitress. We were there with another couple to celebrate our wife’s birthdays. Very disappointed!

When you are on the North Coast of California and seeking the perfect meal, there is only one restaurant on your bucket list-Café Beaujolais in the little town of Mendocino. A lovely small cottage artfully decorated with mint green interior walls and white moldings, we immediately were transported to a French village setting where dining is a form of art. The food is served on elegant china, warmed to keep the exquisite cuisine at the opportune temperature. Our party of six shared two appetizers of fois gras, delicate, sweet, and mouth-wateringly delicious. Entrees of sturgeon and duck followed, superbly balanced with cooked beets, pasta, and small vegetables. A coconut cream dessert, a chocolate torte, and sorbet finished one of the most delicate and sumptuous meals any of us had enjoyed since visiting France. The service is impeccably attentive without being intrusive. Bön appetite!

Went there for lunch after a local recommendation. Really good. Started with the Crab cakes which were really good. I had the Fettuccini and Prawns and my wife had the Tuna Nicoise Salad. Everything was very tasty. Price was as expected for what you get. I would recommend.

I love to vacation in a town where you can just walk everywhere, and Mendocino is one of those places. Nestled in what would otherwise appear like a residential part of town, Café Beaujolais was surrounded by beautiful gardens, just like many other«houses» on the block. The dining room was crowded… REALLY crowded, in that diners and our server had to practically knock things over on our table with their butts, trying to move around. I get trying to make the most of a space, but in this case, just taking 1 two top out might make a world of difference… just saying. We chose a small table by the window, overlooking the front door, which offered us some nice light as the evening grew dim. But, unfortunately this was right next to a huge and raucous group of folks celebrating a birthday… Since this was to be my birthday dinner too, I’d hoped for something a little less LOUD, but, we chose to sit there, so, our bad! I figured that, since they already had food, that they’d clear off before we tucked in to our meal, but, they were still there when we left… I had an amazing appetizer, the Butter Braised Beet Salad served with Micro Greens, Crispy Polenta, Herb Frommagio, and a Sweet Tarragon Vinegarette. I’m seriously going to have to figure out how to make this myself. It was absolutely delightful! The Duck Two Ways was my entrée. Hubby got the Filet, which he said they cooked perfectly and just melted in his mouth. The Duck was amazing. The breast meat was tender and the Leg Confit had the crispiest skin I’ve ever had. The meat just fell off the bone and along with the Spatzle, which I’d never had before but loved, it was such a hearty meal! I ordered the Coconut Crème Pie for dessert, hoping to tempt my husband to try a few bites… But, the check arrived at the party next to us and a dispute apparently broke out between the two men at the table over who was going to pay. A hush suddenly fell over the room(awk-ward!), and for once, my husband and I could hear each other speak! In an act of total«maturity» one of the men got up in a huff, said his goodbyes, and stormed off like a big baby because he was«mad». Awww… must be horrible to be a adult, surrounded by friends and family, good food and drink, in a gorgeous little seaside town. So much so that you should totally make a scene and stomp off like an overgrown child… Anywho… the Coconut on the Crème Pie was nicely toasted and it was a tasty end to an otherwise delightful meal… However, if some woman’s butt hadn’t nearly knocked our breadbasket over, and my finger hadn’t been pinched between two plates as our server squeezed in between tables, it would have been 5 stars. There’s a point at which your patron’s comfort, and your staff’s ability to move around freely is being overtaken by the owners need to fit one more table in, and this is a fine example of that…

This review is just for the walk-up bread window: ITRULES! Their breads are totally amazing — if you get there late, they may be out of some types of bread but it really doesn’t matter because all their bread is delicious! One day, I swear, I will have a meal there and will update the review. So far — I am just a fan of the bread! I hope they will be vegan friendly when I get there!

One of our favorite French restaurants anywhere. Every course tonight was remarkable, service was knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. We dine here every time we visit Mendocino and have never been disappointed!

Whenever I visit Mendocino, Café Beaujolais is on my to-eat menu, whether it’s for dinner or for lunch. The very best bouillabaisse I’ve ever had has been at this restaurant and on a repeat visit in November, I was reminded of why I place this seafood soup so high on my soup rankings. The bouillabaisse is deeply oceany and all the ingredients are incredibly fresh. The fish tastes like it was never frozen and probably caught locally, same goes for the mussels. Heck, even the potatos are delicious! The broth is not too spicy and tastes like how a hot summer day by the beach should be – salty, fresh, and plenty of umame! The Duck Two Ways was also delicious! I got a bite of my fiancé’s duck and it was smokey and crispy! The restaurant is very cozy with minimal décor, but it’s incredibly intimate, classy, and very Frenchy.

We enjoyed a pleasant weekend lunch at Café Beaujolais on a recent vacation to Mendocino. There’s a comprehensive menu of bistro favorites, plus a nice selection of wines and a few beers. VIBE: Light airy French country bistro, relaxing and welcoming. Delightfully conversation-friendly. SERVICE: Our server was delightful: wryly cordial, helpful and attentive.(Another was awful: overly attentive, uptalking, smarmy.) LIKED: The room. Ham & cheese quiche. I would definitely return if I were in the area.

This was our last dinner in Mendocino. Unfortunately it was a big disappointment. We were here a few years ago and it was amazing. We had the beet salad and Brussels sprouts. The salad tasted like canned beets and lacked flavor. The Brussels sprouts were cold and extremely greasy. I had the filet and my husband had the duck done 2 ways. My filet was okay but lacked flavor or any seasoning. The duck was inedible. The breast was well done and mushy. The server was very pleasant and was the highlight of the night.

There are only 2 restaurants I enjoy dining at in Mendocino — MacCallum House and Café’ Beaujolais. We had a nice meal and with enough food that we had to skip dessert. Our server was pleasant. I had the salmon which I asked to cook more on the rare side, but it wasn’t quite rare and but thankfully not overdone otherwise it’d be too dry. Hubby had the duck 2 ways — confit and breast but thought the confit was too dry. The restaurant is popular even after all these years. Across the street you can go cemetery trolling if you’re feeling adventurous after dinner.

A quaint French restaurant to enjoy a quiet dinner with your spouse. The staff is very accommodating and sincere(at times there was a little too much yelling from the kitchen). The soup de jour was a lentil, which was delicious– especially with the variety of fresh baked breads provided for the table. My entrée was the sturgeon, which was very tender(despite me asking them to cook it thoroughly). The sauce was rich without being creamy. We had a nice table next to the window, which let us enjoy the fuchsia plants outside. We were too full, but I would have liked to try to coconut pie on the dessert menu! Restaurant is a small space– reservations recommended(can do through their website).
