I travel often to McAllen and the surrounding area. As far as sushi goes this is the only place that not only do I trust, but expect great sushi every time. Quality, service, portion size and freshness are always consistent. I come back time after time and am never disappointed.

Good was nice and tasty. We went for my daughter’s 9th birthday as she wanted sushi rolls. We ordered about 7 rolls and the family loved them. I personally don’t like sushi so I ordered the beef with green onion appetizer since I wasn’t too hungry. It was so great! I will order the meal next time as the teriyaki sauce was the best I’ve tasted since it wasn’t too sweet. Their furniture needs an upgrade but their koi pond/river was beautiful, mini bridge and all.

The food was amazing and the chef was very very friendly. BUT the service was horrible! Our server named Alex gave my friends and I so much attitude throughout our visit. He started with asking for our IDs after we ordered drinks and said«I really just wanted to know your names!» After that it was just attitude after more attitude when we asked for refills and a clean fork. I’ll be back for the food but I’ll make sure the same waiter does not serve me again!

If you have a food allergy BEWARE! They may not believe you! Absolutely disgusted with Hayashi. My daughter has a food allergy with sesame seeds. We requested our food without them, as we’ve done everytime we’ve been there. This time, the chef didn’t believe that she had an allergy. He told the waiter he wouldn’t serve it without them because he didn’t believe him. The waiter actually came to our table to ask us to go to the chef, in the back of the restaurant, to convince him our daughter has a food allergy. I’m done with that place.

Amazing amazing sushi. The chef always aims to please with presentation and flavor to match. Great atmosphere also. I come to McAllen for work once a month and never miss a chance to come here.

Had dinner here with a party of 10 and the only reason I’m giving it 2 stars is because the food wasn’t disappointing but the prices definitely were. My boyfriend and I decided to share a plate combo of chicken & shrimp which was $ 24.00. 1st. The chef forgot to cook our chicken and so leaving us to wait another 10min to eat our food.(Rice and vegetables getting cold) 2. When we got our receipt we charged $ 8 extra dollars when we literally received way less portion of rice and vegetables than everyone else. If they were going to charge $ 8 extra the waiter should’ve informed us or the chef could’ve made us a bit more portion of even just the sides. Overall, the show is fun but the food is nothing«amazing». In total we paid almost $ 50 for«one» plate combo. Also, the waiter laughed at me when I asked to split the bill between two cards. Rude.

Sushi was LOADED with rice and not much filling which makes the sushi here weak. Service was acceptable but not cordial. I left ½ of my sushi roll since it felt like eating big chunks of rice for $ 14 dollars versus a balance mix of fish and rice. To me it is not worth it to come back

I had few reasons to complain. My server was not very attentive but we managed. We were lucky enough to get a great cook, Joe. The food was overall great. Tons of food but that’s expected for this type of restaurant. I enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere of the restaurant.

To start of, I don’t get the 3– star reviews on here. Maybe they have improved a lot since then. Been to the restaurant twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. Both times, the food was fantastic. The service was nothing I could complain about. We had the hibachi and some sushi both times. The only small complain I have was the chef from our lunch time was a little messy when it comes to his cooking, besides that, the hibachi there is probably better than Benihana. Sushi is all pretty decent price, fresh and tasty. They do put on a good show when it comes to the hibachi, but of course, it all depends on who you got as your chef. It all might vary a little bit. I will definitely be back here for more.

Staff is slow bringing drink refills to the table. The place is disgustingly filthy on the inside. Somebody needs to clean this bug infested restaurant!

Ok so I’ve been eating at this establishment at least 2 a month for the last 2 years every time for lunch and every time I have the scallops I come in today as usual and to my dismay the waiter informs me that my 14 dollar plate of scallops will now cost me 24 dollars because they are only available on the dinner menu which has no portion difference only price. When I ask the manager on duty his response was that the scallops were never on the the lunch menu again I have eaten at least 30 orders of scallops in 2014 all for lunch and all at the lunch price. He then informed me that I could order a side order of 4 scallops for 10 dollars. Well let me inform you sir that I will be going to Shogun from now on. Damn what a shame.

Our server was very inattentive and it took us forever to get our check. We had to get someone else to find our server. The food not good enough for the price we payed. My boyfriend and I ate there and got extremely sick after. Would not recommend

Ordered three chicken and steak teppanyaki dinners knowing it would feed my wife, four small kids and myself. Six dinners were pushed on me by the waiter and he acted as if he had no idea how much each dinner would serve. When I declined and insisted on only three, the waiter still tried to up-sell additional soup and salad for an added $ 30. If the salads were top-notch out of this world creations, I wouldn’t mind. But the bowl of lettuce and WATEREDDOWNSALADDRESSING made the decision all the better. The main course was great! I just really didn’t appreciate the service up front.

Awesome place, especially for parties! They have a section for hibachi, where the cook makes the food in front of you; a section for hayashi, where you can order sushi, salads, teriyaki, tempura, etc; and a bar. I’ve ordered hibachi many times here and it’s a must-try experience. The cooks are always friendly and hilarious, and the food tastes great(especially the fried rice and hibachi steak)! I’ve had the hayashi too, and I suggest getting yaki udon(stir-fried noodles with chicken and vegetables), spider roll, hayashi roll, shrimp tempura, edamame, beef negimaki, salmon sashimi, and tuna sashimi. The fish is always fresh, and the plating is beautiful. Well worth the price. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants!

Great place. Really child friendly for this kind of place. Large Koi pond/stream with bridge crossing it. Food was excellent. I has the shrimp and tried the sreak. Shrimp was much beyter, but both were good. Vegetables and rice were great. Chef was skilled and entertaining without being annoying. Downsides: waited at the table a while before getting served. They brought the soup for all but two at our table and then those two waited over five minutes before getting theirs Overall, great experience with really good food.

Food is ok. Customer service needs real improvement. I was here in 2008, no hostess to seat us, and when we sat down we waited for our waiter for an hr, then another hr for the food to get to our table, and it wasn’t busy. Never went back until this week. So here I am, with an invite from friends. Customer service still is bad. One of the hostess has no clue how insulting she could be by telling us, that if we didn’t move to another table, we are paying for $ 80 per chair(did she meant seat?).

1. Bad start, no greeting or nothing just a a look of what are you doing here so I laughed and asked can I be seated she looked puzzled and sat me at sushi bar , 2. Sushi chef was good nice presentation and tight maki rolls. Sushi was good I didn’t get sick … If I was judging the restaraunt just on this it would be 4 stars but it’s not. 3. Customer interaction on all ends is a fail Nice place just subpar service

Why, I do believe that the C. family may have a new Christmas tradition, and it is hibachi at Hayashi. My brother and sister in law were a little reluctant to try a hibachi place after a bad experience at Shogun down the street, but I assured them that this would be different(even though I’d never been here before, I figured it’d be like Benihana), and it was. We strolled in around eight thirty for dinner and had about a 30 minute wait before we were seated. Not too terrible for one of only a handful of places open on Christmas night. Each dinner special comes with a Japanese onion soup AND a garden salad, both were pretty standard. The dude preparing our food was slightly amusing and admitted to being hungover(must’ve been some party the night before to still be hungover that late!), but he did a great job. Our steaks were cooked and seasoned to perfection, even though the three of us ordered them at different levels of «doneness.’ Also, just throwing it out there, I was very proud of my sister in law for ordering medium rare, the way filet mignon should be. The preparation of my scallops made me think of my scallop cooking incident, but he managed to keep the smoke under control and not set of alarms, as I did. My brother’s shrimp was really good, too. I wasn’t aware of this, but you can order your meat«spicy,» and they concoct amazingness with sriracha and a couple other things. The other people around our hibachi ordered it, I had to try it, so ordered some myself. Sister in law really liked it, too. I wasn’t blown away by their wine list(or the house malbec I selected). Their cucumber martini, however, was quite tasty, complete with tamarindo on the rim of the glass. Didn’t try the sushi this time. Also, at first glance, it seems expensive, but the amount and quality of the food you get is well worth it. We each had lots of leftovers and were satiated. Yup, this is how new Christmas traditions are born… I think it’ll be a good one.
