Had a Groupon to Chado sushi, as it’s near Tom’s office, and figured we’d try it out when it’s convenient on a week day. This place is awkward with a capital A. It was relatively empty, which I won’t hold against them as it was Monday, but they played Frank Sinatra’s «New York, New York» on loop for a half hour at a whisper volume. So you could hear it, ever so slightly… on repeat… but could also completely hear the conversation of the table next to you… The food itself was fine — standard spicy tuna, yellowtail scallion, and eel rolls. Big glasses of wine too. The service was pretty slow — not sure how this is possible, as there were only a few tables seated — but in summary, Chado needs to get their act together!

Have been here before and really enjoyed it… In what it would seem are Chado’s last days(besides the place being relatively empty during lunch, a group of guys were discussing how they were going to change the place around, how there were issues with payments, etc), the experience has slipped considerably. The 3 roll lunch special was so light on fish they probably could have been combined into 1 decent roll. Service was poor(isn’t it strange how it’s worse when a place is slow?) and the rooms still look like they just moved in… lots of white walls, not a lot of energy to compensate. Very disappointing, because the food was always very good(emphasis on «was»).

This review is for the delivery only! Ordered a simple mix & match sushi, which took approximately 2 hours just to be delivered to my place. I was infinitely glad I had a groupon to use because I would never pay full price for the quality of sushi and customer service I received.

I would give this 3.5 stars, but rounded down just because the waiters could have been infinitely more informative/attentive. I actually chose to sit at the sushi counter, which worked great since I was ‘Ohitorisama’(eating by myself). I was put up nearby for work, and must say that this place stands out particularly because there aren’t a lot of delicious spots in the surrounding area. On to the food: the sushi was by far the best, the Chicken Karaage appetizer tasted NOTHING like izakaya food in Japan. The fish was fresh, the sushi was simple, and quite small, but oishii. Not sure as to whether I’d go out of my way to return to this place, but I wouldn’t rule it out if my company put me up in the same place again!

This is some of the best sushi I have ever had! Chado was very convenient after a trip to the Empire State Building. It was relatively easy to find with the help of Unilocal, and I’m glad we did! My party and I were warmly welcomed as we walked in and and quickly seated. We were given a copy of the menu and our drink order was taken. They were unfortunately out of all the cold Sake, so I went with a Kirin instead. After perusing the menu, we agreed on some sushi to order. We started with the Edamame as an appetizer. The soy beans were warm and salty, but nothing out of the ordinary. For rolls we ordered California Rolls and Sweet Potato Tempura Rolls. For sushi we went with Tuna, Crab Stick, and Smoked Salmon. All the rolls and sashimi were very fresh and very good. I had never tried the sweet potato tempura or the crab stick again, but I was in love once I had. I even added another order of the sweet potato tempura after we finished the first. The waiter was very attentive and explained menu items without pause. We enjoyed the meal so much, we even went for dessert, which I almost never do. I had a chocolate lava cake that came dusted with cocoa powder and shaped like a pyramid. It was OUTSTANDING! My wife ordered ice cream, which was not very good, but could not put a damper on our wonderful evening.

The sushi at Chado was good, not excellent. Based on the reviews, expected a little better than I got, though not totally disappointed. The tempura tofu and it was excellent. My disappoint came from the sushi rolls ordered. I think I could have formed a better roll. Maybe since it was a slow weeknight I didn’t get the A-list sushi chef. But I was not totally disappointed. The service was good and was consider returning again. I would have to recommend to someone finding another sushi restaurant if the time allows.

It is always a challenge to find something between 28th and 48th Streets that isn’t a tourist gourmet death trap. So when I noticed the good, albeit few reviews for Chado, I knew I had to try it out before the out of towners ruined the authenticity points. I owed my bestie and the boyfriend a nice dinner out to celebrate my promotion. Chado set the tone of the evening well — dark initmate lighting, generous seating, a quiet ambiance for conversation, an impressive menu and price point, and my goodness — the food! Appetizers: My bestie opted to start with the short ribs — you MUST get these. They are melt in your mouth goodness! The boyfriend began with the calamari and duck tataki, which were both good, but I wouldn’t say stellar since they were a smidge overcooked. Edamame was good as well, but thats a requirement for Japanese places. Tofu vegetable soup was not memorable. As far as entrees, I had my heart set on the Omakase — but it was not on the menu! The waitress told me that you order the omakase simply by just telling the chef how many pieces of sushi you would like. The house specilizes in fresh fish served with sauces or toppings to enhance the sushi. And boy, the chef didn’t dissapoint! The sushi was of great quality, fresh and clean. The ebi and marinated tuna on the rice cracker stood out, as well as the jalapeño yellowtail. The boyfriend unexpectedly had«the best filet mignon he’s ever tasted» and swooned over the butter mushroom sauce. It was very tender and cooked to medium rare perfection!(I’ve heard that since I’ve gone the filet is not nearly as good anymore. Why would they change the menu??) Now, while the meal was excellent and I think I will be returning, I do have a few notes that bumped a 4.5 star meal to a 4. Firstly, the menu I received was paper… and dirty! It was a poor presentation of what the menu and restaurant offered. In addition, the dessert menu was quite dissapointing — they aren’t made in-house, but are frozen treats that you can get in most restaurants in Manhattan. I understand their forte is the sushi and I’d rather the chefs focus time on that — so no harm done.

This is a 3.5 star review, but I pushed it to 4 because Chado surprised me. We only came here because we wanted something sort of healthy near my friend’s office in K-Town and we didn’t want Korean food, and Chado was the closest sushi spot that didn’t have terrible reviews. They have a 2 for 1 Happy Hour until 7, and we arrived at 6:45, but they allowed us to order two drinks anyway. Then we sat and ordered and the want for healthy food went right out the window, because we had to get the short ribs with the garlicky honey tamari sauce… i mean, they come served with French fries! The short ribs were not what I expected at all, they were thin slices of honey garlicky, sticky savory goodness. The oysters sauteed in chive sauce with soft egg turned out to be like scrambled eggs with oysters in this great chive sauce, and guess what? Both the eggs and the oysters were cooked surprisingly well, tender and soft. We moved on to the sushi and got a few rolls, all of which were of very good quality. First of all, the fish was very fresh. Secondly, the sushi rice was perfectly seasoned. Third, they were all of the correct size, even the Special Roll(Spicy Aquatic– the torched salmon on top adding a nice subtle smokey flavor to the spicy tuna) which tend to be too unwieldly to eat gracefully, but this was just right. I was very pleasantly surpri
