This dog-friendly wine bar is also a great spot to paws — er, pause — in your day, even if you don’t have Fido in tow! I had passed this place frequently when meeting friends at Great Flood Brewery. I knew that the concept was a place to bring well-behaved pooches and also stop in imbibe. While I don’t have a dog of my own, I finally got to check the place out recently while in the neighborhood with a friend and their four-pawed best friend. The inside of the tore itself is beautiful, with hardwood floors and high ceilings, with a great variety of bottled wines and other libations for sale. In the back part of the store is the wine bar. The sommelier let us try a sip of one of the wines that day, and my friend and I both decided on the Semillon(Le Hameau). In addition to wine, there was also Sangria and several cocktails availale to purchase by the glass. While the sommelier indicated that there is patio seating outside in addition to the table on the sidewalk at Douglas Blvd, we opted to stay indoors and enjoy the cozy ambiance while we were there; truth be told, it was a little brisk outside when we went and indoors was simply a better choice. Her canine curled up in one of the doggie beds in the store while we sat, sipped, and savored the Saturday afternoon and visited over a refreshing glass of wine. This store is so welcoming, both to humans and canines alike. Even without a dog in tow, it would be a great place gather with two-legged friends to – as the sign in front says — sit, stay, and sip!

Two of my favorite things are dogs and wine and this place combines them! Oh happy day. Vines and Canines is located in the Douglas Loop neighborhood in the Highlands. A little bit tucked away behind North End Café but an adorable location. The décor is artistically dog themed and there are treats, water bowls and more for your four-legged friend. The wine selection is on point and so are the prices. There are many $ 10 and under bottles to choose from. You can bring your dog and join in for events like Thursday night team trivia. Take your dog for a walk and stop in for a bottle!

Great atmosphere, great wine, great service… and you can bring your dog. What’s not to like? This is no ordinary wine shop. All of the wines are hand selected so you aren’t staring at 10k bottles for hours trying to pick just the right one. Marc, the owner, is incredibly knowledgeable and always willing to help you pick out just the right wine. Love the fact that they serve a number of wines by the glass and have a great atmosphere, indoor and outdoor, for sitting back and enjoying one… or three.

Wine? Dogs? What more do you need to know… except that the owners are exceptionally friendly(dog people, you know) and the wines are delicious! No food, but options to order in in the chalkboard. Thoroughly enjoyed our rainy afternoon there — just wish our pup had been with us! Would definitely go back if we’re in Louisville… and would love to start one back home! Great concept!

For serious! How is this place not a 5* across the board! For starters — they have alcohol. Wine and bourbon. You like wine and bourbon, don’t you? Of course you do. They’re lovely. Bourbon is a delightful nectar given to us from the heavens. This place sells it. Wine is a spiritual gift, bidden to those whom are willing to accept it. Vines and Canines present it to those willing to accept it. Moreover — I have a puppy. His name is Cooper. He walks into Vines and he is the hit of the party. People promise to kidnap him. He is gorgeous and is treated like an absolute king. You can expect all these things at Vines. A place of tasty beverage, excellent customer service, and people envying your dogs.

Is your dog one of your best friends? Well, mine is and that’s one of the main reasons why I love Vines and Canines. You can bring your pup and relax with a nice glass of wine or bourbon. I’ve been to Vines and Canines several times but most recently went on Saturday with my dog Sable. I sat out on their new back patio which was lovely. The wine selection is great here. I was told each wine they sell and serve is handpicked out by the owner. We’ve been to some of the tasting events as well. My dog Sable likes it because the owner doesn’t mind if she is off leash when they aren’t busy, she gets treats, and the owner even gave her a toy on one of her first visits. If you like dogs and wine, this is the place for you!

Do you love your dog? Of course. Do you love wine? Naturally. Well, you’re in luck. You can bring your pooch here and also order wine(or even bourbon) and hang out with other dog owners/drinkers. The owner is extremely friendly, and there are lots of pet items to shop and explore while you’re tippling, if you don’t want to lounge on the couches or chairs. Our dog loves this place and gets to sniff furry friends. She also gets free treats and even got to take a free toy home her first visit. Unique and wonderful place.

What a nice experience! They carry functional and fun items and are so easy to work with. Mark and the gang could not have been nicer. It’s a mom and pop shop on ther internet. Thank you Vines and Canines for great customer service.

Wine, dogs, local business… what’s not to love about Vines & Canines? The thing I love most about living near Douglass Loop is the sense of community and the small-town feel I get despite being in a city. Vines & Canines caters perfectly to that feeling for me. I’ve been in twice now… the first time, it was a slow evening so the owner encouraged us to let our dogs off leash to walk around and sniff while we enjoyed glasses of wine! On our most recent visit, we just popped in for some dog treats, but were again greeted by a friendly employee. I enjoy coming in here and really getting a chance to talk to the guys who love wine and look forward to many more visits. It would be kind of neat if they blocked off a side area completely for dogs; I think I’d be here all the time if that were the case!

We stopped in tonight because, while walking down the street, their sign caught our eye. We like wine… we like dogs… this only sounds like a win-win situation. And we were right! Such an interesting little place! Very cozy and inviting! The wine selection was great… and not overwhelming! And the staff was very cordial! We will definitely be returning!

I came here for the first time last weekend, on a Saturday evening. I love wine but I’m by no means a connoisseur. I’d read the review that the owners pick only the best wines. The wines by the glass are written on a chalkboard menu, so when you arrive you need to check that out and order at the front. It appears there are always 3 – 4 reds and 3 – 4 whites available plus bourbons. Prices ranged from 5 – 11 to most were about 6=8 dollars. I ordered the German Riesling and a friend ordered a recommended red(eek, can’t remember) but both were amazing. We stayed longer than anticipated, just chatting with owners, other customers and playing with the dogs. A word of caution to dog owners. If your dog isn’t the best about staying indoors(mine.) keep an eye on the door. Some people weren’t the best about firmly shutting it. The owner said he was looking to get a sign or stop or something… Just something to keep an eye for as both a customer and a dog owner, please keep the front door closed! All in all, an amazing experience and I will be back! What a gem!

It’s like a boutique for wine — you can get a great reasonable bottle of wine without taking a chance because all of the selections are well curated. Plus they love doggies and have some great dog gifts. Friendly customer service too.

The main attraction here is that there isn’t 80,000 choices for wine. I get lost in the bigger stores. The folks running this store cherry-pick only solid, tasty wines. This can be a real time-saver. Notably, the employee’s know their stuff; not just some hourly worker there to collect a paycheck. The above was true at the old and new locations, but the NEW location has kicked it up a notch. They now have an intimate side-room that can be used for private gatherings and/or tastings. On many nights they now sell wine by the glass as well as a signature drink. The drink they had when I was there involved bourbon and mandarin oranges — it looked awesome — but it was a ‘school night’ so I stuck with a nice Americano Petit Syrah. Butter! I like ‘keeping it local’ and they also carry selected liquors. As always, it’s pet friendly with a variety of dog paraphernalia(beds, bowls, etc.). I look forward to becoming more of a regular as they moved much closer my home(behind the iconic Twig & Leaf). Cheers!
