Ate here last nite. 8:30 pm and only five customers. My friend and I both ordered the biscuits and gravy platter. The gravy didn’t seem homemade. Identical to another local restaurant tho I’m not certain which one. Biscuits good. Bacon nice n crispy. Coffee very weak and served in a teacup not a diner mug. Weird. Eggs were good as well. Tasty tater tots. All in all we were pleased. Tables and counters had new fake granite plastic tops. Clearly the owners not overly concerned with promoting a cool diner atmosphere. Dec 9th: had a miserable meal here earlier. I was only customer 7pm. Their health rating is C and score 78. Twice he cooked my eggs wrong. Biscuits and gravy had to return not hot enough. Bacon room temp. The only satisfactory item was my tator tots. Is this what you get when you try to buy local?

I wanna say this right from the get-go, the staff was extremely polite and courteous during my experience and they are in no way the problem. A few summers ago my dad took my sister and I here for a late lunch. The food was practically inedible and the restaurant just seemed dirty/run down. I never intended to come back here. It seems that we ate here then because my dad is pretty nostalgic about the place, he grew up around the corner and it was a hang out for him and his pals. I not only had to endure the food that day, but also my dad’s stories… Anyway, they’ve just been purchased by new owners, so I wanted to check them out to see if they’ve really improved, as they claim on their Instagram, in the Leo and on banners. Well, the food has been improved somewhat. My partner really liked his french toast, eggs and bacon and I liked my cheeseburger okay and the fries were actually pretty decent. The patty was probably frozen, but the bun and veggies seemed pretty good. The cheese was a slice of Kraft, if I’d have to guess. It might be a slight, SLIGHT notch above Waffle House quality, if that. The coffee was just sad. A little tea cup with lukewarm, instant like coffee. The prices were low, a fair price for what was received. The décor is nonexistent. The walls are bare and the bathrooms need a serious makeover. Its almost like walking in to a place that’s been robbed. The only thing in the display case was a huge jug of Thousand Island dressing… So the verdict is: Their Instagram is highly misleading. When I entered, I wanted to leave immediately, but stayed because, who cares, I wanted a cheap burger and we were there. This place needs completely revamped and needs fresher food and a filled up display case! I’ll probably head to Waffle House next time I want some cheap hangover food.

Checked this out today for a post Halloween breakfast. The prices were very reasonable for how much food you get – and it was delicious! They were pretty busy, but our waiter was still very attentive and friendly. It’s my understanding that they’re under new management, so I encourage people to try it out now– the previous reviews don’t reflect how great it is now!

I am very forgiving about many things that might go wrong when dining at a restaurant. However, there is one thing that I absolutely cannot forgive and that is laziness and half-assing things. When I walked in It seemed at first that the place wasn’t open, it looked like it was still under construction. And maybe it is! Who knows. There are two display cases by the door that were empty. The floor was torn up in spots, in other areas the old linoleum was left but had serious wear to it. There was a tile wall behind the counter that had missing tiles. The pendant lights above the tables had been spray painted in a slipshod way and half the barstools had been«reupholstered» with this cover that was poorly sewn and ill fitting to the seat. And this, frankly, enraged me, and I hadn’t even received my food yet. Of course the food matched perfectly to my already poor experience — everything was from a can, or frozen, or just cheap. I don’t quite understand why you would go through the trouble of opening a restaurant(or any business for that matter) and do everything just half way. I wasnt expecting a «farm to table» experience, but when things seem lazy out in the open, I shudder to think what is going on in the back. You are on Bardstown Road for the love of Pete! Your old sign and history to the place only takes you so far, then you have to compete with everyone around you on this street. Twig and Leaf you better hustle and get your act together or else you won’t be much longer for this world. :(

Decided to try this place because it looked so cute — the old neon sign is so cool. I don’t know what it was like before, but this restaurant is under new management. I thought it was clean and has the diner atmosphere. Our server was very nice. I had the build-your-own omelette and thought it was very good. My husband had eggs, toast and bacon and said his eggs were cooked spot on and his bacon was extra crispy — as he requested. The coffee was very weak — it looked like hot tea. My husband liked it this way, I usually drink stronger coffee. I also think a little music playing would help the atmosphere.

Really! Food poisoning! If a place is going to serve a dish such as a hot brown you should make sure you’re food is edible you’re putting in it first. The food was spoiled! It looked and tasted like he scraped the last bit of mornay sauce out of a container stuck in the back of the cooler for weeks covered it with shredded cheddar that smelled moldy. The toast was stale and turkey had that oh so familiar spoiled meat taste/smell. Truly a crying shame this place is. My cup was dirty the seat they gave my 5month old was moldy and absurdly filthy filthy. And the workers never washed their hands. One mopping and cleaning and one was out back in the dumpster area smoking. The cook looks to have aids or hep. No joke this place should give up Shame on this place. Ive been a cook for 14 years and I cant tell you how many ways i knew this was a bad idea. i wouldn’t let a starving stray dog eat here. We were the only people there at what should’ve been a rush time. Workers not wearing gloves or washing. With no service. i should have known they didn’t give a f about the quality. The waitress looked as if she may have been hadicapped and was proly being taken advantage of. And the cook looks straght out of prison. So so so so so sad to say I should’ve bared the wait at burger boy. SHAMEONYOUTWIG! YOUSHOULDNOTBESERVINGFOOD! Headed to ER thanks for nothing

Pay no attention to the sub-par reviewers — they expect a diner to be something other than a diner. One-of-a-kind. The Omelette Station is to die for! At lunch, try the Salisbury Steak or the Catfish. Set your expectation level at American Classic Greasy Spoon and revel in it!

I have always passed this place and never thought to try it. The wait Sunday for brunch at North End was 30 minutes. So we decided to try Twig and Leaf instead. There was plenty of seating and the environment was very much diner. You could see the cooks and the wait staff was friendly. They also offer breakfast, lunch and dinner all day. The three people in my party(myself included) all got three different breakfast items. I got the breakfast quesadilla. I had never heard of anything like that, so I wanted to try it. I opted for a side of tater tots as well. The portions were great and so was the meal. The quesadilla had 2 eggs, bacon and cheese with sour cream and HOMEMADE salsa. Let me tell ya, that salsa was the . All three of us were happy and pleasantly surprised by the salsa. It was chucky, thick and just the right amount of heat. My father-in-law built his own 2 egg omelet. He ended up eating some of my tater tots. He travels to Honduras once a month for a week at a time for work and raved on Twig and Leaf’s salsa the entire meal. My man got the Southwest Scramble. The burrito was huge! It was the size of the plate lengthwise and thick. It came with a side of tater tots as well. The three of us ate, with coffee and tea for 28 $. Not bad at all and fulfilling for sure. The few complaints I have is that the drinks were not filled up unless we asked. I was also a bit concerned with some health code violations… both cooks didn’t wear gloves, and one had a massive beard that concerned me with hair. Otherwise, I suggest trying out this place, especially if North End is just too long of a wait.

It is a historical establishment, but the owner is apparently looking for a buyer, and the diner was stripped of all decoration and personality. It was empty except for a waitress and a cook when we were there, and it smelled strongly of cleaning solution(not necessarily a bad thing…) before our meals were prepared. My companion ordered pancakes, bacon, and eggs while I ordered a cheeseburger with fries. The burger was a little disappointing… rather less than average, but tasty. The fries were delicious. My companion reported that the eggs were eggcellent, but the pancakes were disappointing because the batter came from a pitcher stored in the refrigerator. I saw the cook pouring old batter into a new pitcher(presumably full of fresh(er) batter), and it was a bit dried out. I cook occasionally and I know that it’s really not that difficult to whip up a bit of pancake batter, particularly when the diner is empty. The waitress was very friendly and chatted with us while we ate, and she gave us the history of the establishment. We left with positive feelings and we wish the best for the Twig and Leaf.

Twig and Leaf is a Louisville icon. My whole life I had passed the retro building and neon sign in Douglass Loop and wondered what was inside the throwback diner. Well ladies and gentlemen, if you have ever wondered as well, this is what you can expect from a visit to T&L! A friend and I – friend being a T&L uninitiated Highlands dweller — headed up after ensuring that they served up omelets. I love a hearty breakfast of eggs on the weekend, and an omelet bursting with yummy fillings sounded like just the thing I needed. Just like its façade, Twig and Leaf’s interior has a retro diner feel. Chrome bar stools line the main counter, which faces towards the open kitchen, while diner booths encircle the perimeter of the restaurant. We seated ourselves and were quickly greeted by a server, who promptly got us our drinks. As we perished the menu, the Denver Scramble won out over omelets, as it had everything a girl could want in a hearty breakfast — eggs, ham, peppers, and potato sticks. It only took a few minutes for the piping hot food to be delivered. The scramble hit the spot, but the potato«nest» underneath it proved to be a little disappointing. I was expecting some golden and crispy potato sticks, and instead it was a pile of tater tots. Nevertheless, it was a satisfying meal that hit the spot. We left, and the aroma of grease followed us out on our clothes. I love diners, but I don’t love smelling like one all day. I’ll remember to wear stuff that’s almost ready for the laundry hamper the next time I visit!

Stopped in for a quick breakfast, The Twig and Leaf might be a simple café but that’s what I love about it. Good prices, friendly staff and good prices. I had an omelette, sausage and chili cheese tator tots which were all delicious. The menu had a good selection and you can have breakfast all day. Right along Bardstown road it’s a great place to grab a bite to eat!

Very disappointing. Have lived in Louisville for years and passed this«diner» hundreds of times but never made it inside… I should have kept it that way. From the outside it looks like the epitome of an old 24 hr diner, with booths along the front wall of huge panel glass windows looking out into the sidewalk and street. Even the original neon sign out front makes you nostalgic for a forgotten era, but then you step inside and all that falls essay immediately. The blank, painted cinder block walls make the room feel more like a garage than a diner, and it’s as dirty as a garage, too. Suffice it to say I ordered a Hot Brown that had unmelted shredded cheddar cheese sprinkled on top. My wife’s drink came to the table in a dirty glass with(I swear) a straw that was not in a wrapper and had been cut in half. Neither of us could stomach our food. Never Again.

There were three of us in our out-of-town party. I ordered the country-fried breakfast steak with 3 eggs, tater-tots and cinnamon toast. My meal, as well as the others, was just what it took to hit the spot. I’ll have to stop in again when I’m in the area.

I’ve been pretty unimpressed with this place. I remember it being way better in high school but maybe I was just young and stupid then. On my first trip here the place absolutely reeked of Pine Sol. It’s great that they’d been cleaning but the smell was so pervasive and overwhelming that it was impossible to enjoy the food. The second time the service was terrible. We had to go up to the counter to get coffee refills, to get hot sauce, request the check, etc. The server was a sweet lady, just very inattentive. I’d rather spend a little more money and get better food andr service elsewhere.

It’s a institution, so I am told. It just so happened that the Back Door was closed, and on a monday night nothing else was open super late for food. So we took ourselves to the Twig & Leaf. Service was fast, food was good. If nothing else, it is the perfect place to get bacon at 3:30 in the morning.

Iconic. The Louisville Metro Landmarks Commission designated Twig and Leaf a historic landmark last year, and rightly so. The Douglas Loop would be unrecognizable if you headed north and didn’t see the mid 20th Century modernist façade on this bend of Bardstown. Granted, it’s not haute cuisine, and you’ll pay a couple bucks more than one might normally expect for what is effectively diner food. But those slightly higher prices are completely consistent with the fact that this is a higher rent district, and the food is absolutely appropriate for the venue. It’s a DINER, and a perfectly fine one at that.

Honestly, the two best things about this place are the fabulous vintage neon sign and the fact that I amuse myself to no end by calling it the«Twig and Berries» every time we drive by. Finally venturing in for breakfast the other day I was initially a little shocked at the dead interior with the fast food style booth seating. Sadly, the food matched the décor. Coffee was weak, omelet was tiny and not even heated up enough to have the cheese inside melt. Toast was slathered with butter flavoured oil, it certainly was not real butter. But the worst was the bacon. The smallest, thinnest, palest, most insulting order of bacon ever ordered. Yeah, its cheap. But sometimes you get what you pay for. Me, I will enjoy driving by the sign and making my juvenile jokes, but will save my money for better places.
