The food is uninspiring but tasty. The $ 2 charge for $ 0.25 worth of rice is a turn-off, especially since the dinner entrees are $ 11 – 13 range. We received the smallest nan I have ever been served, and that was $ 2.75 —(for flour and water fried in a pan.) There is no chutney or cucumber salad, no garnish at all to the meal. For three people: one beer, two sodas, three entrees, 2 orders of rice, one nan — bill was $ 57.00 Not rushing back.

I did not eat here for several years, because I am a huge fan of Dakshin. But what keeps me coming back, especially with my mom is the proximity, which is what is probably what is keeping them open. They have a great outdoor patio that overlooks mid city mall, and is great on any night of the week to people watch. Their indoor seating leaves much to be desired. Their carpeted space is worn and torn and their tables are haphazardly placed. you would think if you had a second chance to rebuild, you would do it a little better? I’m not sure if this kind of thing bothers other people, and it might not bother me as much, if other things made up for it. Their menu is not lavish, or detailed. It is very straight to the point, and includes a lot of common dishes(like tikka masala, or vindaloo), while including some vegetarian dishes that are not on other menus(like aloo palak). Their prices are comparable, except for the additional $ 2 for rice. I am always pleased with the dishes I order. On a side note, I do not like paying $ 1.50 for 2 pieces of papa-dam though… I do think that is a rip off. And not to compare, but at other Indian restaurants in the city that dish is complimentary, as it should be considering they are cheap to begin with. for $ 1.50, they serve you 2 thin pieces with 2 bowls of chutney and tamarind. This is confusing. I would love to gobble up all those dips, but how can one do that with only 2 pieces of papa-dam? I have found that the past two times I have been here in the last year the service has not been great either. Last night, I will assume he is the owner, or manager since he is always there, came to our table to take our order, he received a phone call at the same time and proceeded to answer it at our table and take their carryout order over the phone as he stood in front of us. I thought that was really rude. Not to mention, they didn’t give us much time to sit and enjoy our overpriced appetizer. Then our meal was served in 10 minutes or less, which is not an issue usually, I just felt the since of urgency… like they didn’t really want us to feel comfortable or linger. The servers made me feel like I was asking one of my teenage students for extra rice. He kind of rolled his eyes and then placed the rice in my empty naan basket upon returning. I’m not sure how they stay open, aside from serving more than ok food, being in a prime location and having an outdoor patio. I’m not sure I will return and give them my money. I’d rather go somewhere where I feel welcome and comfortable.

Placed an order for dine in. They packed it to go. We asked them if they could let us dine in. They dumped plates and silverware at us and asked us to serve ourselves. We walked away. The manager/owner refused to put the food on the plates and serve us.

I don’t have much experience with Indian food, but it would appear that I’m a fan… or at least a fan of the Medium Heat Lamb Saag this place serves. We also had two Nan(the garlic and the chicken), which was perfect for scooping up the remaining sauce. I travel a lot for work and will greatly look forward to returning for the Hot Lamb Saag. A+ in my book

They range from 3 – 4 starts but are 3 most days. The food is not consistent at all. I always get the chicken tikka masala and some days they will do the best job and I will end up basically eating every bit of it and other days it looks like it was re heated from a lunch buffet with hard chicken pieces. Their naan/bread has always been very stretchy and hard to tear up(maybe the batter they use) but real naan(authentic Indian food) is supposed to be a lot more fluffy and easy to digest. If you know authentic Indian food and like it I would suggest trying Shandaar(a bit far from bards town but worth the trip for real Indian food) The food here is good for the price and if it’s your first time trying Indian food I would definitely recommend it. But if you know Indian food well, you will feel a bit disappointed after eating here. Other places like taj and shandaar are a bit far but the quality is way better than Kashmir

Was absolutely delicious and the staff were great. Definitely a place we would go to again when in Louisville. The Beer, the Nan and the food were all a big hit. Prices were also excellent.

This is a great restaurant. The service is always great as is the food. I recently had the tandoori chicken and my wife had a lamb rice dish. Both were wonderful. The dining room might not be for everyone. The restaurant is in a slightly converted home and so there is very little elbow room. We had to eat dinner while sitting right next to the turned off lunch-time buffet table. That was okay with us but some people might be bothered by such informality. However, on a huge upside, this restaurant does NOT have a television. How wonderful! Thank you!

We have dined here many times over the past eight years, both this location and the old location two doors down that burned. We have always had great experiences weather dining just the two of us or entertaining visiting friends. The outdoor patio area is great during the season and very relaxed. The inside areas are a little broken up but it is comfortable. Service is decent, even when they are busy they are courteous and attentive. ON every visit we have found the restaurant, patio and bathrooms to be clean. We have tried many of the dishes and enjoyed all of them. Our favorite standby’s would be: Garlic Nan Meat Somosas Lamb Rogan Josh Chicken Vindaloo By no means is this list all inclusive, we have enjoyed many of the menu items and they have all been served steaming hot, fresh and seasoned perfectly. They also offer several genuine Indianan beers and several wines by the glass or bottle. We have always left satisfied, the price is good, quantity and great and food is always great. We will continue to visit here anytime we are back in the Louisville area and highly recommend it to our visiting friends.

Upon entering Kashmir… It was awkward. The man who greeted us did not speak to us and brought us to a booth in the front room. He immediately asked what we would like to order and we asked for a few minutes. The next stop, we pondered what type of beer Kingfish and Taj Mahal were. He had no clue so we went ahead and ordered the two… He came over to take our order and In the middle of asking him about the menu items he just stared at me… Turned around, and saw someone walking through the doors and walked away. We then waited around 5 – 8 minutes and were greeted by another server who was timely and took our orders. He also was not that friendly either. We ordered the spinach naan which was okay and the vegetarian platter. It was very flavors and softly fried. For our meals, we ordered the thio sampler and the saag paneer with garlic naan. The garlic naan was not as flavorful as others. But it’s okay. Everyone has their own style. When we finished our meals, we stayed at talked around twenty minutes and the servers were standing in the same room as us with no one else dining… As if waiting for us to leave so they could clean the table. The entire time just felt weird. All in all, I have had better and more flavorful experience des at. Other Indian restaurants and will stick with those. However, great location!

Great little spot. I always get the lamb korma or chicken tikka masala. Briyani is great also. I always order the garlic or cheese naan with my meal. A little pricey for the portions but that seems to be the norm with Indian restaurants. Nice wine list. Kitchen will adjust the spice level in any dish according to your palate. I like it hot! Oh and don’t forget the samosas.

I give this place three stars because the service is consistently sub par. The waiters seem pretty unfriendly and off putting. When I came in around 12:30 today, I stood in their foyer area for about five minutes before anyone came around to seat me. I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to seat myself or wait. They also seated me at a booth that had a vent right under it, so it was continuously blowing hot air up into my face as well as on my legs. Not super pleasant. However, I can confidently say that the food is always delicious. Usually I get chicken tikka masala and rice with some kind of appetizer. Today, I decided to try their lunch buffet! It didn’t have a ton of stuff but it had enough that I, personally, liked. Therefore, I decided to give it a try! They have plenty of vegetarian options, rice, meat, fruit, salad, plain naan, onion chutney, and a few desserts. Not sure I can vouch for the freshness. In the hour that I was there, I saw the naan replaced once and I saw a gentleman dump more chicken into the tikka masala instead of replacing the pan of food entirely. Despite that, it is a buffet. I expected as such. Not sure that I would recommend this place to others despite the food being good, but I will most likely visit again myself because of the closeness of the location in relation to my home and work.

Absolutely stuffed myself(and had some to take home) for very little money. I tried: meat samosa(spiced turnover stuffed with minced lamb & spices) — excellent Garlic Nan and Peshawari Nan(which is a soft leavened bread stuffed with dry fruits, topped with coconut), both were amazing and Chicken Tikka Masala(boneless white meat tandoori chicken cooked in a delightful bright, tangy cream sauce.). They will customize to your spice level! Which is very considerate!

The staff was extremely nice and the food was well priced. I really appreciated their large selection of naan. I had the chicken tikka masala as my go to indian dish. It was absolutely delicious and all the food was delivered super fast. We also had the appetizer sampler. It was a good variety of things to sample and I appreciated that the fish was not fishy tasting.

In short, Indians who like food back home, will not like this place at all. No flavors at all, even in the food recommended by the people who run the place.

Went in for the lunch buffet while on a trip to Louisville, and this place was fantastic! I wasn’t particularly impressed by the décor(it’s in an old house, and the tables are more café than Indian restaurant), but the food more than made up for it. Not only that, but it was priced very well. This is on my list of places to visit the next time we come back to Louisville, for sure!

Luckily, Kashmir is a short walk away for me. I always order to go, and I love talking to the nice gentleman that takes our regular order of channa saag and shahi paneer korma(OHMYGODSO F’INGGOOD). Their condiment tray is KEY to having a perfect Indian food meal. Their mixed pickles are pretty spicy and amazing. One time, we had leftover mixed pickles and put them in tacos and it was so great. The mango lassi makes me want to dance. I have been to a lot of Indian restaurants across the states(because it’s the best food ever), and luckily my second favorite I have ever had is a few blocks away. The first favorite is in Pennsylvania, I ain’t got time for that. This place makes me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside and you will feel the same way once it hits your belly. Just get it. Also get the bread basket because it’s NAAN, and naan is amazing. Treat. Yo. Self.

Kashmir has been a favorite of mine since first having it years ago. If I am in the mood for Indian food, this is where I go. The staff have always treated me well here and remember who I am over the years. The food is yummy as well! A few of my favorite dishes here are nav ratan korma, channa saag and aloo gobhi. They also have large indian beers that are fun to share with your dining partner! They offer a buffet for lunch as well, which is a nice way to try a variety of items on their menu. if the weather is nice, you should def sit outside on their patio. It is a great way to scope out the vibes of Bardstown Road. I am happy to have this spot in town for myself and others to experience.

Plopping a reasonably priced, all-you-can-eat lunch buffet in the highlands was, of course, a much needed great idea, years ago when Kashmir was two doors down from where it is today. I can never pick anything off of the expansive menu, where every combination of chicken, lamb, beef, and vegetarian Indian dishes and breads seem to be listed, so I tend to only go when the lunch buffet is in service; that way I don’t have to choose only one! People compare the food unfavorably to Dakshin, but I sometimes prefer Kashmir. Maybe that’s a buffet vs. entrée thing, or maybe it’s just that I’m used to Kashmir. They’re both great, either way. The service can be a bit over-eager, but they’re nice and get the job done, and that the building is a converted house makes for a cozy atmosphere and at times cramped seating. But it’s a nice local Indian dive that’s been good to the neighborhood and is well worth the trip.

I hate to give less than stellar reviews of family run businesses, but I was terribly disappointed in my last two trips to Kashmir. The service was good, the management friendly. I had the vegetable thali, which is a combo plate. My favorite Indian dish, the Malai Kofta, had one dumpling and was salty and bland. The Channa Masala and Matter Paneer were bland and overly salty as well. The lentil soup was good. My husband liked his Mano chicken. As I said, a previous trip was a forgettable lunch buffet with very dry Tandoori Chicken. At times, restaurants tame the heat factor for sake of the masses. That is not the same as flavor– the combinations of delicious spices simmered for hours that is the hallmark of the cuisine. Sadly, they have missed the mark for me.
