The food is pretty good here and the servers are funny as hell. Good spot to stop by for sandwiches and laughs. Tip: I recommend the chicken special and throw a few avocado slices to get that extra kick!

Excellent portions, delicious philly cheese steak sandwiches. Prompt and attentive servers. Compared to other restaurants at the farmer’s market, this is definitely a more economic option(while still yummy).

Went here twice in a week. I wanted to like it as I love diners and diner food and everyone who works there is really nice. I got breakfast both times. The first time I sat at the counter. They had heaters so it wasn’t too cold sitting outside. I got a scrambled egg meal with hash browns and a bagel both times. The food didn’t take too long to come out. As soon as I started my meal the first time, I found a hair in my hash browns. When I told one of the workers there, he immediately took my plate and had a fresh plate made. The eggs were nice, the hash browns had no flavor and were crispy, but not in a good way. The best part was the bagel. I didn’t plan to go back as I didn’t enjoy my meal that much, but it got the job done and I was on break from work so I decided to try it once more. It was a bit earlier in the morning and it was not as busy. I got my meal to go this time. I went to eat it and the eggs were fine, the hash browns were greasy and crispy in an almost inedible way(I feel like I saw hash browns pre made on the griddle being warmed, but I could be mistaken) and the bagel was great. Halfway through eating I saw a hair in the box. I know for sure it wasn’t my hair or anywhere my hair color or type of hair so it was a bit disconcerting that this was the second time this happened. I tried not to think about it, but I definitely don’t plan on eating here again. The breakfast isn’t that great and the hair problem twice is a no-go for me.

My first time here. Ordered and am waiting for my French dipped sandwich. However am so upset by the extremely rude lack of service I received. I was waiting for customer ahead of me to finish up her order when the male behind the counter yelled out right in front of me «NEXTGUEST!» When I was clearly patiently waiting for my turn. He furthermore cut me off from my order. I’m aware that it’s impossible to give zero stars but even if it were possible to give zero stars, I’d still give it 1 star for the anticipated delicious sandwich.

I live nearby and happened upon Phil’s several years ago enroute to or from my weekly ‘one on one’ training session@Apple, after buying a new mac book pro. I had given up red meat for several years, but was so enticed by the look of Phil’s corn beef and pastrami sandwiches that I was ‘forced’ to order one! Every week after that I was much more anxious to have a sandwich@Phil’s than I was to go to my session@Apple! Now, whenever I’m@the Grove or Farmer’s Mkt and hungry — I head right for Phil’s and always recommend it to newcomers for the BEST Food at the BEST Price in the area. Last nite I tried their fresh roasted turkey sandwich on rye, really good, but could only eat ½ — too much for me all@once. For Great Customer Service, Great food@a good price EATATPHIL’S!

My husband and I always stop in Phils after shopping at the Grove. Comfort food at its best. Tuna melt and the egg salad sandwiches are great choices.

The single worst L.A. deli experience in the last 150 years. If a hot pastrami on rye that arrives cold is what you’ve been yearning for, or if the fat-laden sandwich full of gristle sent out as a replacement(yet still cold) is your definition of culinary heaven, then don’t deny yourself the pleasure. For anyone else, the inedible tissue in the sandwich was simply an insult(see photo). But all was not lost. The evening’s single greatest pleasure was being able to direct a family of five who were curious about my sandwich away from Phil’s, and over to Magee’s. Not to be petty(well, a little), but the sense of satisfaction knowing that Phil’s had lost a substantial sale, was almost worth the price of the meal. Almost.

Anything that sticks out like a sore thumb is going to intrigue people and a good example of that would be Phil’s. What customer wouldn’t be curious to try out what an old-school diner located in the center of an upperclass Famers Market? I ordered their French Toast breakfast while my boyfriend got their Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich. The French Toast came with a side of eggs and your choice of either sausage or bacon. It was a bit of disappointed when I seen the portion size of the breakfast. Instead of the average 4 half pieces of French Toast that most places serve, I only got two(basically one piece of bread). Although it was small, it was at least fluffy. The sausages sadly were dry and shriveled up making their breakfast a regrettable choice. Now their Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich was how all their diner food should have been. huge, heavy, and incredibly delicious! The Cheesesteak was generously stacked, topped with melted provolone! Along with the sandwich, a mountain of some pretty impressive fries that are salted perfectly with the right about of crisp are served. Phil’s bar side styled diner looked cool but in my opinion will either be a hit or miss when ordering. I wanted to love this place but it was nothing more than average. Choose safely and go with their hardy sandwiches.

I would give this place 3.5 stars. I got the rueben and my bf got the French dip. The French dip was delicious and every time we visit, this is what he gets all the time. I always contemplate for the pastrami and the rueben. Both are great, but I wouldn’t say they were awesome. I feel like something is missing but I can’t figure it out. The portions are big and the prices are regular compared to most sandwhich places I go to. All in all, it’s not a bad joint to go to especially when you work up an appetite while walking around shopping and stuff.

I love Phil’s Deli, and I am quite possibly partial because my guy Eduardo always takes really good care of me and my guests … we’re regulars so we think they deserve a great shout-out. As a Chef, I really appreciate even a simple menu that is conscious about good-quality ingredients. I’ve never had anything less than a delicious meal here — including the egg plates for breakfast(and their French Toast or pancakes are also really good), the burgers, and the French Dip sandwich, which are my favorites. Phil’s is one of the oldest establishments within this historic LA landmark, and it speaks to the time-honored tradition that makes the Market a great place to be with friends, and especially to dine. If you’re expecting 5-star cuisine at deli prices … perhaps try one of the other suggestions made by the Unilocalers here, or go to The Grove for an entirely different experience. If you want to enjoy the Original Farmers Market in its own unique glory, Phil’s Deli is a great choice … and by the way, breakfast is served all day, which we love.

It’s so hard to decide what to eat at this Farmers Market but we finally decided on Phil’s. It’s basic diner food to say the least. I had a Philly Cheese Steak Combo and it was pretty dry. The fries however were super good. Really crispy like I like them! My boyfriend had an omelet and he didn’t think it was anything special either. If you’re looking for something to impress you, you might have to choose another option at the market. But if you’re just hungry and like diner food than you should definitely try this place!

Had family come in town and came across this place. Really pleasant staff. They always kept checking in on us. I got the Philly cheesesteak and it was pretty good. Would definitely come back. Only negative was they only have bottle and can drinks, so no refill. You have to buy another drink if still thirsty. So didn’t like that part. Other than that everything was cool

I am a a regular of The Original Farmers Market. Been coming since I was a little boy. Often times I eat at the original stall there Mcgee. The meats there are prepared on premises and is a try carvery. My review of it is posted on I thought to try Phil located directly across from McGees. The advertise sandwiches in title at least comparable to mcgees. but it isnt. The turkey, roast beef dips, corned beef are cooked on premise but Phil uses Sysco ike prepared meats. not very tasty but a much larger sandwich then mcgees for half the price. and half the taste. Do If You Are Looking For Quantity And Value Rather Than quality. You Can Go To phils. It is a very busy stall. there is an old adage I am reminded of.“don’t quibble with those who charge less, they know what their product is worth” Two choices two pricing schedules two very different product. it’s good there are choices

Phil’s is located at Farmer’s Market. Nothing fancy here but average diner food. Seating is on barstools. I usually get a burger, fries, and a soda which will cost you 10 bucks. Not much else to say.

Went to the market not really knowing what I wanted and on a whim I chose Phil’s, after a sec with there big menu I got the French Dip sandwich. Yep, it comes with a pickle and and orange and it was great for me as I thought it balanced the sando out a bit. I sat at the counter as it had plenty of room and was actually not to uncomfortable in those chairs to enjoy a bite to eat. The price is decent, staff is okay, and food is on point. Wouldn’t mind stopping by here again in the future.
