Decided to check out Bar Mattachine after hearing some good buzz about it(and the other downtown LA bars) from friends. Stopped in for a Sunday Fun Day drink and discovered Maxwell’s sandwiches on the patio. Amazing!!! Maxwell cooked me up a gourmet pork belly sandwich while I watched(He’s pretty easy on the eyes, too!). I think this was the first time I’ve ever eaten pork belly. I was a little hesitant, but Max did a fantastic job. Every bite was delicious! Just the right combination of flavors. This guy definitely knows what he’s doing in the kitchen. I’ll definitely go back for more! Next time I want to try his vegan sandwich. If it’s anything like the pork belly, I’m sure I’ll be a fan! Enjoyed the bar too — great atmosphere and the servers were really attentive and friendly.

My boyfriend and I recently went to Bar Mattachine for brunch. We ordered the Pork Belly breakfast sandwich and it was delicious. The seasoning was unique and extremely flavorful. We ended up ordering a 3rd sandwich for the both of us to share. My boyfriend said it was one of the best breakfast sandwiches he’s ever had. The bottomless mimosas are also a great deal and made with care. I highly recommend checking out their weekend brunch!

The atmosphere of Bar Mattachine is very warm and welcoming. The drinks are delicious and the bartenders are incredibly friendly. The food which is served on Sunday’s from 11:00 am — 4:00pm is phenomenal. A young man who runs the pop up kitchen cooks outside on the patio. He makes the food quickly and with expert detail. I have tried both of his staple dishes and that week’s special. The pork belly sandwich is hot, crispy and mouth-wateringly savory. It is complex, full of umami and simply wonderful. The Vegan Wrap is unique and healthy. The combination of the soy ginger glazed mushrooms and the sun dried tomatoes give the dish a lot of body contributing to a ton of flavor in every bite. Lastly, on a cold winter morning Maxwell Edwin’s turkey black bean bowl is exactly what you’d want. I highly recommend this pop up brunch for anyone looking for a good relaxing time with great food on a Sunday morning.
