I have been going to Haifa for two decades. Recently, the quality of the food has really declined. For a long time the service has been less than stellar, but I’ve accepted that as part of the charm. On my last visit I ordered a falafel sandwich: the falafel was lukewarm and bland, the tahini was tasteless, and the pita was spongy and cool to the touch. Likewise the bread that was plopped down on the table, to go with the increasingly stingy portions of tapas salads that come just after you order, was also cold. The server could barely be bothered to bring water or refill our pita basket, let alone care to ask how the food was. The hummus was decent, but in no way made up for the terrible falafel sandwich or service. Disappointing. Need to find a new favorite falafel place in town.

My family and I love Haifa. Its one of our favorite restaurants that we’ve been coming to for 15 years. My girls have grown up eating the schnitzel which is delicious and usually a very big portion. We come here and celebrate all special occasions which is quite far for us coming from the valley. The prices are right, the food is great and the service is wonderful. We used to know the waitresses by first name but a few of them have moved on. My husband loves the soup, he orders it every time we come here. We both especially love the hummus with mushrooms plate, its so delicious. This is all around great place!

I love a good falafel when I’m craving it. This restaurant is great, the service is friendly and attentive. Parking might be an issue for some however there might be parking available out back or you can try to find a spot on the street. I was a bit sad when I last went to find out that they didn’t have Laffa. I ordered a shawarma plate anyways and it was delicious. Also ordered their hummus which was really good as well. Their menu is full of so many Israeli dishes to choose from. For the prices here, you get a lot of food. There’s plenty of seating available as well. Overall a great place to get Israeli food in the Pico/Robertson area.

PITASANDWICH for lunch is always a winner here! I get it with shishkebab chicken that is so tender, juicy, and flavorful, you won’t believe it’s skinless chicken breast. THEHUMMUS is thicker and more flavorful than anything you’ve had from a store or a major restaurant. SALADCOMBO plate is great to share: hummus, baba ghanoush, Israeli salad, cabbage, tahini, pita, and falafel! I love food that is flavorful and hearty yet light in mouth feel(which means there’s not a lot of fat(butter, etc.) in your dish). This is hard to find because many places rely on fat for flavor, but Haifa doesn’t! Just fresh ingredients expertly cooked! The table service is hit or miss depending on who is working, but keep in mind that Israelis don’t know the definition of obsequious. ;-)

I love the food, but have recently learned that Haifa no longer has a teudah and is not in fact Kosher. This is of real concern for me and my family; it appears that Haifa themselves have not been very forthright /clear to their clientele either. Sadly, until they do have one, I can no longer dine here.

The food is great and the service is great also. Grace was our waitress and she was extremely nice. You can get seated right away and order. There’s a lot of variety on the menu and I definitely recommended sharing things with friends because it’s nice to be able to try everything. The falafel was extremely original and just like israel.

You have got to try theirs Yemenite soup. Best freaking soup in the world. I only go there for their soup. Amazing soup. Food is decent, a bit pricey and their service is not all that. But the soup makes it all worth it.

I have never eaten anything except the falafel and salads. I always intend to try other things on the menu, they all took and smell great, but the falafel is the best in town. The pita is soft and fluffy, the tomato and cucumber salad is delicious and the falafel is flavorful, never greasy.

I think next time, I will just order the plate rather then swarma sandwhich. The food is pretty decent. The owner really cool… A good experience.

Haifa was the city that Elijiah the Prophet hid in the stories of the Hebrew Bible– during Passover dinner, we symbolically reserve a seat at the table for the Prophet. During medieval times, Haifa was a thriving port city, center of trade, and known for its dye-making and glass-production. Following WWII, Haifa was the gateway for Jewish refugees coming to Israel from Europe, and is currently the 3rd largest city in Israel. Haifa Restaurant has an old-world feel from the outside and in, and you notice right away that everyone inside eating are regulars. It is kosher. I stepped in because I was actually looking for another restaurant and couldn’t find it. However, I glanced at the menu, and knew right away that I had found a perfect lunch spot. Pita sandwiches, soups, salads and appetizers are all under $ 10(vegetarian pita sandwiches run $ 6.95– $ 7.95, meat pitas strictly $ 9.95). Prices like this are UNHEARD of in this part of town, where every restaurant is kosher and has inflated pricing. I ordered to-go the Shishkebab Chicken Pita Sandwich. It didn’t look like much, this hand-sized sandwich wrapped in foil, cucumbers and tomatoes spilling out of it. But once I got through my second bite and the savory chicken drippings and… tahina sauce possible? … flooded my taste buds, I was in kebab heaven. I quickly devoured the thing, satisfying all cravings and yet, not terribly full. I would come back with a friend, and order appetizers to share. Haifa in Arabic means ‘slender-bodied,’ or ‘delicate,’ and in a way, this play on words fits the description of the food(at least, my pita). When I had come in, I really didn’t want the typical, heavy middle-eastern plate of meat and rice. The Shishkebab Chicken Pita Sandwich will keep my haifa-figure(omg, am I using this at all correctly?!), without skipping on flavor! The pita dough falls apart pretty easily, however, which I suppose is fairly typical of pita breads.

Ordered falafel to go from this restaurant. The food was really good. The only issue was that I wanted hummus inside the pita but instead they gave me what I think was techina. It just kinda sucked since I was told that I would get hummus instead. However, even with that mistake it was still really good and I finished the entire pita :)))

Yes! I’ve been looking for a place to replace my beloved Muma with authentic Israeli falafel… and I serendipitously parked in front of Haifa to attend an event down the street. I can see how the prices seem steep, but you just have to order strategically because sharing is caring here. Cousin and I split the salad combination + 6 falafel dish and it comes with: tahini, hummus, babaganoush(eggplant dip), cabbage salad and Israeli salad. And the softest, most heavenly basket of pita bread fresh out of the oven. You can easily make several filling falafel sandwiches from this plate. Also, the girl working there was so friendly and talkative! Definitely made our meal more lively and entertaining. I asked for the red & green spicy sauces to top my pitas and she brought them out right away. Delicious! I’m so excited to bring my family next time I’m in LA.

Other than the stuffed cabbage, I have no idea what I ate but it doesn’t matter because it was all delicious and amazing. This was my first time at this restaurant and my first time eating this style of cuisine. We ate here on a Monday evening after it was highly recommended and I’m so glad we did. We barely heard a word of english the entire time eating there, but somehow it was exactly what I was in the mood for that night. Somehow I feel as though I’m eating really authentic food when I don’t understand anything anyone says to me. We parked in the back. but I’m not sure if we were suppose to. Otherwise I think there’s street parking along the sides.
