The carne plates are fine, the steak was cooked well and tasted good. The steak that came with the steak fajitas dish was not good at all. Had a strange taste to it — thought it might have been on its way to being off actually. The refried beans was too mushy almost like gravy-ish The atmosphere, and service was what I would go back for. But will order the carne plates and without re-fried beans

Some of the worst food I’ve ever had, waste of money! I’m just being honest here. Really nice staff though. It’s American Mexican, not authentic and I guess I should have known because of the location. I always test the salsa first, and that’s usually a pretty good indicator of how the food will taste. Salsa was pretty bad, tastes like tomato sauce with some peppers and onions and a little sugar, bland and yucky. margaritas are actually pretty good, but too pricy. We ordered the fajitas and wow… interesting and not like anything I’ve eaten lol definitely not«Mexican» at all. Had mushrooms and tasted sweet… wasn’t good even a little bit, ordered another margarita just to get it down. I will not ever come back to this place, the nice staff was not enough to win me over sorry guys

Honestly the best food in Colorado. Emanuel makes you feel like family. We go a minimum of once a week. Best food around!!!

It was great service… I will give them that. But the food wasn’t anything that seemed very Mexican. It American Mexican at best. Fine for lunch. The interior sure was cute with the carved and painted booths! But overall, after having lived in Souther California I can attest that this isn’t true Mexican.

The food is alright but the service is not good — two different servers. Makes me fee like I am such an inconvenience to them. Meh.

We had the all you can eat enchiladas for $ 8.99 and it was worth every penny. Delicious. Go there.

Great little Niwot restaurant. Hometown feel and delicious margaritas. The service is often rushed because they get VERYBUSY in the evenings, especially on the weekends, but can be tolerated. Try the ‘Discada’ with ranchero beans. YUM!

This is the typical Mexican restaurant in Colorado. Chips come from a bag, and the retried beans must come from a big tub. We dined here recently with a couple of friends. The wait staff was friendly and seated us quickly. However, it took quite a while before anyone actually waited on us, and much longer to have drinks served. The food was bland and fairly tasteless, and portions were on the meager side. It’s a little disappointing trying to eat Mexican food in CO, especially if you’ve spent time in CA, TX or AZ.

At first I thought that this was going to be a stereotypical Mexican restaurant, but this place extended my exceptions. They have healthy options as well as the regular dishes.

This is a downward revision(posted October 2015) of a former 5-star review(see below), as a way of saying: come on guys, you HAVE to do better. Twice in recent weeks I have ordered chicken enchiladas at Ajuua, and both times the chicken seemed like it had been thrown into a pot raw, boiled, and just left there till someone wanted it for something. Tough, stringy, and flavorless. This is NOT how you prepare chicken for enchiladas. Please get your act together and make the food as good as you used to. ___________________________________ I live walking distance from this restaurant, so maybe a little prejudiced, but: the service and atmosphere are great, the menu is extensive, and I haven’t gone wrong on it yet. I especially like the mix-and-match, build-your-own plate option, where you can choose from a range of fillings, sauces, and sides, all for the same price. And a reasonable price, especially for a town that is full of million dollar homes. It’s a local favorite, rarely crowded and so a delightful alternative to the busier quality Mexican places in Longmont and Boulder.

First visit. Nice atmosphere with tables, booths and very pleasant outdoor seating. Full bar service. Salsa is fresh and flavorful. Lunch Burritto was the perfect portion and included rice and beans. Great flavor. Not as hot as I like but what I like puts others in the hospital. Service by Kelly was very attentive and friendly. $ 10.84 for a great lunch and soda is a good value. A bit hard to find tucked in behind a strip mall but well worth the effort. I will be coming back soon.

I’m at the restaurant now. Ordered their taco salad. It was really bland, missing a few items that were listed on the salad description. I kindly sent it back, but it’s still pretty boring & unfavorable. The wait staff is not very receptive. They haven’t asked how the food is, asked if I wanted hot sauce or anything else. The place is empty so assume it’s just poor customer service. Pretty unsatisfactory.

This place is one of the worst restaurants I have ever eaten at. My wife and I live in gunbarrel so this is our local Mexican food. By the temperature of the plate it is obvious they microwave all of their food. My wife was pregnant and couldn’t even eat her meal. She was so displeased. They sent the manager over and he offered to bring something different but my wife was over it. They did not take the meal off of our tab. We paid for an untouched meal. Mine was edible but not good at all. My dream is that a New Mexican restaurant comes to gunbarrel and puts this place out of business. Please do not support this place. I guarantee you could see this place on kitchen nightmares. I understand there aren’t many options in niwot. It we can do better than this.

I’ve been to the Niwot location many times with my family, and everyone loves it. They are family friendly and the waitstaff is always extra-nice to my children. The food is great – I recommend the burritos, rellenos and chile Colorado. The Tres Amigos, with enchiladas and two kinds of chile, is another favorite of mine. the chips and salsa are fresh and have the right amount of spice. The food is always hot and fresh. Their margaritas are great, too.

We have eaten here three times in the last two months. I have to say it is the best Mexican food I have had in Colorado. And I’ve lived here 36 years!

We use to enjoy eating at this establishment, but, I have to say that the last two times we ate there, we were very disappointed. The food and the customer service were not the same! The food was served lukewarm. Customer service was really slow and not very friendly. Sorry, we wont be coming back anytime soon.

I am visiting from California, and had a terrible experience with this restaurant just today. They have a lunch special where you can order an enchilada with a taco, I kindly asked them if they could substitute the taco for another enchilada… they told me it would $ 3.00 more. Are you serious? If anything a cheese enchilada should be cheaper then a taco with meat, I dont care much about the price but thought it was poor customer service. Then, eager to get home and eat my lunch since I did takeout I come to find that my food is cold. I will keep in mind that I did order take out, but I’m staying about 1 minute away by car right behind the restaurant in those apartments. Not only was the service poor, food cold, but the way they arranged the food was a mess. The beans were all over my enchiladas, and not on the side. No sour cream was on it. I Know good Mexican food when I have it. I am from California. I guess they get 1 star for remembering to make my food with green sauce… had it been with red I wouldn’t have been able to eat it. And another star for the free chips and salsa. I probably wont be coming back here…

Ajuua was an unexpected delight that I found while visiting Bootstrap Brewing on the west side of the marketplace area. I just got something simple for my meal. Just a taco plate because in the summer I like to eat light and not have a weight on my stomach in hot weather. At first glance it looked like one of those places that really soup up the Mexican décor and only have mediocre food. As I said I just got something simple but my asada(steak) tacos tasted great and seemed authentic to me. I can’t comment on green chile or anything like that but I can give high marks on the taco plates and I have heard other people say the same so it is not just me saying it. A nice place to go while getting beer at the nearby brewery!

I had a satisfying lunch here recently and a pleasant experience in service. Our waitress was pleasant, smiling, prompt, also very engaging. I had the Ajuua burrito which is big. The food was as good as I expected it to be as I’ve been to another Ajuua location in Aurora and I loved it. I enjoy the décor at Ajuua, very colorful and not just a set of tables and chairs thrown together. it helps give the place a more authentic feeling. The Niwot location is smaller and a little tight, but it serves its purpose. Good time here!

Stopped in for dinner with Classy Mike — and LW(!) — during our road trip from New York to Los Angeles. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this place, despite an enthusiastic suggestion from LW. Classy Mike, my go-to guy for asking the wait staff strange and oddly condescending questions, asked if he could get a few slices of radishes with his tacos. The waiter stammered and said he would have to check on that, before coming back and saying that they don’t have radishes. As Classy Mike pointed out, this was a clear sign that this place can’t qualify as authentic Mexican. I had the spinach relleno, which was inoffensive enough to garner a slight thumbs up, despite the big ol’ relleno indigestion it gave me later. I couldn’t see myself going here if I lived in the area, but I suppose as far as Mexican around here goes, this is as good as it will get.
