Can I rate negative? In fall 2014 William Watts brought printouts of good reviews and perhaps our research was inadequate. We signed a contract in December 2014 for a sunroom and paid a substantial deposit. Work was to commence in February and finish by April. Despite continuing inquiries from us and reassurances by Watts and Rick Stearns, the owner, work had not begun — nothing at all — by the beginning of May. We never saw either of them or any materials or workers. After they did not respond to any contact for six more weeks we got Watts on the phone and canceled the contract, followed by written notice. As of late July they had cut off communication completely and refused to discuss any refund. «Honest Exteriors» is a joke name for these guys. Stay far away.

It’s like a full-time job trying to track these people down. Each representative I speak with refers me to someone else, who tells me they’ll call back with more information but never does. They’ve been pleasant enough while on site assessing the damage done to my house by a third party(not by Honest Exteriors), but given that the damage was done last August and 10 months later we haven’t even started taking steps toward getting the repair work done, I have to wonder if they ever had any intention of taking the job in the first place, or if it was all just a runaround. So many, many phone calls to them… and still no answer to some of my most basic questions. I’m forced to go elsewhere to get this work done, which seems a shame after all the time I’ve invested.

I needed gutters replaced that were damaged by a fallen tree limb. I used Home Adviser and was contacted by Honest Exteriors. On 5÷22÷14 a salesman gave me quote for gutter guards. I wasn’t familiar with their system and said I’d do some research. He suggested I give him a deposit check which would be held for 3 days. He said if I canceled the order within 3 days, the check would not be cashed. I didn’t want to do that but he badgered me until I wrote a check. That was a really stupid move on my part. Within 24 hours I let him know I didn’t want the guard system. I asked about regular gutters and talked with him several times after that but never got his quote for regular gutters. Many weeks later someone from the company called about my installation date. By then I already had new gutters. The call reminded me I hadn’t received my canceled check. After checking my bank account, I realized the check cleared the day after the sales visit. I called the salesman to find out why the check was cashed and when I’d get a refund. He gave me a number to call. That person said the company doesn’t hold checks for 3 days and he’d send a refund but I never got it. I called again and was referred to the owner. He was not aware of the problem and said I needed to fax the invoice and he’d send a deposit. I’ve faxed the invoice three times, called and e-mailed several more times over 9 months but I haven’t received my deposit. Looks like I’ll have to go the small claims route.

I can’t speak to the quality of work, but I can speak to the utter lack of professionalism. I submitted a request for quotes on Networx to repair a hole in my roof, and Honest Exteriors contacted me. We made an appointment for someone to come inspect the damage to give me a quote. The day of the appointment, no one showed up or called. A day or so later, I called the phone number that had called my cell. No one answered, so I left a voice mail, asking for someone to call me and explain why no one showed up, and I never got a returned phone call, either. Whether this company is honest is questionable, but whether it’s unprofessional is certain.
