They are probably better than a 1 star establishment, but to wait 5 minutes for the two employees to nearly completely prepare the the order of the couple ahead of me, finally ask for my order(2 scoops of custard in a cup), and only then tell me they don’t have any custard … kind of chafes, so 1 star it is. A clearly readable sign, or immediate order taking of the only guy in line is all it takes.

I had a great lunch experience! My half roast beef sandwich had plenty of premium meat, fresh toppings, and delicious bread. The roasted red pepper with smoked gouda soup was«fabulous». The portion sizes were good, and the combo price was reasonable. I found the service to be stellar(professional, helpful, and friendly). The interior had contemporary-style dining up front, with comfortable, and relaxed coffee house seating(with a fireplace) in the back.

I’ve actually never had their custard here, although my mom & daughter rave about it. I have had coffee here a couple times– once it was a mocha and it was yummy, but the next time it was only ok. I’d requested 2 pumps of raspberry syrup, and they didn’t have raspberry syrup, which I still think is strange. The barista talked me into almond instead, but I think it had gone bad or something. It was just ‘off.’ But– here’s the good news. The food I had for lunch was absolutely outstanding. I ordered a half grilled cheese on wheat(they also offer white, or a croissant for a slight upcharge) with the soup of the day, roasted red pepper. They also had chicken gumbo available. The sandwich was super hot and I burned my fingers on it slightly, but it was absolutely delicious– it had 2 kinds of cheese. Just melty, gooey perfection. And the soup! My goodness! I thought it was strange that it was served in a tall paper cup and not a bowl, but it didn’t matter once I tasted it. It was divine. Perfectly spiced and served at the perfect temperature, with both chunks of roasted red pepper and puréed red pepper. It had hints of smoke and cheese, and it was just excellent. I want more! The staff is always lovely and knowledgable. Definitely a new fave lunch spot, that I highly recommend.

The only time I’ve visited Foo’s was during the Fall Caffeine Crawl this year, and it was a wonderful experience. The history of the space as well as the obvious care and dedication to making quality custard and food makes it a remarkable place. My only regret is that they don’t regularly serve the coffee custard. It was the smoothest, creamiest and most indulgent dessert I’ve ever had, and paired wonderfully with the citrus Christopher Elbow bar. The coffee was also delicious(a special blend from The Roasterie), and the pairing of local goods is something I can definitely get behind.

The first time at Foo’s we had the custard and they are right… it’s FABULOUS. This time we wanted a quick lunch and we were happy this time as well. We had the decaf Colombia drip and was pleased again with a good tasting decaf. Why DECAF? To avoid the heart exploding from the fifth shop today during #KCCoffeeTeaWeek!

definitely a treat. one medium concrete of one of their specialties which consisted of caramel, chocolate and chocolate chips was SIXDOLLARS!!! that is NYC pricing in the Midwest. my concrete was good but I can get similar at sherdians or freddy t’s for less money. overall, I will not return simply because the prices are just ridiculous. plus, the service was super slow. only 2 ppl working and it took 15 minutes to get our order and there were only 5 other customers. sad, since foo’s in brookside used to be an old time favorite.

Very disappointed Custard was melted, service was horrible and concrete was made wrong twice. Kid behind the counter said no problem when I said thanks. Obviously there was a problem as it took multiple tries to get order correct. Sad, will not be coming back again after years of decline this place is in need of a refreshing. The neighborhood deserves better. Good luck.

Everytime I come back home to Kansas City I have to go to Foo’s! Roastery Coffee, Christopher Elbow chocolates and the best frozen custard, hands down! The friendly staff is the cherry on top!

Love me a Foo’s Concrete, whopper or caramel & pecans! Foo’s is the best and I like the Leawood location better than the original in Brookside. Brookside store needs a facelift. Leawood is cool with outside tables too. The back area with live music on weekends and a few couches seems kinda cold to me. Could use some décor. Don’t forget your punch card!

I’ve been here 4 times. I usually have coffee or iced tea, but had a German chocolate concrete yesterday. It was delicious! The service has always been friendly and drinks quality as far as my experience goes. I don’t live in the neighborhood, but sometimes stop at this shopping center while passing through.

I have very high expectations when it comes to my custard. For the most part, Foo’s meets my expectations but does not exceeds them. Yes, their custard is smooth and has just the right amount of creaminess(which is key to a good custard), but their base flavors, especially vanilla, can be a bit muted. To counter this, the few times I’ve been here I’ve always ordered a concrete. The combination of flavors go well, from vanilla with chocolate chips and brownie bits to coffee with chocolate chips and pecans(as you can tell, I’m not much of a fruit fan), and the addition of textures add to the experience. However, I wish the custard was a little colder because up to a quarter of my cup can consist of melted custard the second I am handed my order. Additionally, as other reviewers have mentioned, the service leaves a bit to be desired. Yes, the teenagers are polite(ish), but they don’t make me feel welcome there, either. They are merely adequate. If I could, I’d give Foo’s a rating of 3 ½ stars. Their custard is pretty good but at the price that I pay for a mini concrete I can get better custard and much better service elsewhere.

Fun place to relax and let the kids draw on board while you sip on your Foo’s Latte. Don’t forget your stamp card!

I’m actually not writing this review about frozen custard. I’ve been to this location of Foo’s a bunch of times and have never had their custard. Shocking, isn’t it? But here are the things I like about it: They usually have a good variety of Christopher Elbow chocolates and you can buy them in a sleeve(not the fancy box) for a lot cheaper than at the CE storefront. Their frou frou coffees are pretty pleasing to the palate and are made with Roasterie Coffee which is always a plus. Their soups are hearty and flavorful and are a welcome treat on a cold day. They also have really good wraps. I read some of the reviews complaining about the service from the teenagers who work the store and I have to say that they’ve always been friendly and helpful. I was there today and practically bought them out of the Christopher Elbow chocolate and the young lady who helped me was very patient as I asked her to package up sleeve after sleeve. I have never seen this place be very busy, except when they’re having private parties in the back which seems to happen a lot in the summer. While I do like the original Foo’s, this one is a bit more convenient for me and parking is never a problem in the strip mall where this one is located.

If you’re looking for ice cream – you’ve hit the jackpot! Foo’s custard is smooth, creamy, and the perfect density(not too rich or light). They offer traditional scoops, or you can get fancy with a favorite«Concrete,» or just ask for all your own favorite mix-ins and get creative! Every time I visit Foo’s I absolutely MUST get a Concrete. It’s that good. Foo’s is also my favorite coffee shop. Not all know Foo’s even serves coffee, but it is exceptional, and keeps getting better. The best drinks are their Foo’s signature drinks, one of which called a «Foo Latte» with steamed custard! While of course Foo’s is known for it’s always fabulous custard, they offer a slightly more sophisticated lunch menu. From 11 – 2 you can get a chicken salad sandwich on a croissant, a salmon wrap or salad, or their delicious Red Pepper soup. Foo’s is comfortable. In the back room they couches next to a fire and TV. I have used this backroom for business meetings and interviews, and it’s just perfect(free wifi!). All in all, Foo’s is a «fabulous» places, and my favorite!

I have been here a few times for lunch and really enjoyed it. Their sandwiches and seasonal soup(roasted red pepper and Gouda) was FABULOUS and inexpensive. I haven’t had the ice cream at this location, but I assume it is good as the Brookside location is VERY good. The only reason this review got four stars is because of the coffee. I have had it three times and each time it was pretty bad, both the regular drip and the specialty. It is Roasterie coffee which I love, too, so it was disappointing.

Foo-latte(a latte made with their frozen custard instead of plain ol’ milk); A quietly seductive treat that creeps up on you whispers sweet(somethings) in your taste buds. A nice little purveyor of local treats(chocolates from Christopher Elbow, coffee from the Roasterie, pastries from… some local joint) and their own frozen custard concoctions. The staff is friendly and greets you like a regular… even if it is your first time. Great big back room with a blackboard and plenty of tables. A nice place to retreat from the hustle and bustle of… Leawood? Well, yeah.

Now THIS is what I am talking about. They offer both CHOCOLATE and vanilla, unlike their pitiful Brookside location(sorry, I know that is mean, but seriously… no chocolate? Are you kidding me??? What kind of business plan is that?). I am a HUGE fan of frozen custard, ever since I worked at a place in high school. That happens to be the best(sorry, it is in TX folks). However, this is the best I have found in KC, and yes, I have tried EVERY chain which serves it. It is the best in that is the creamiest and most dense. It holds well with hot toppings should you prefer them(Sheridan’s melts instantly and Culver’s is like soft serve even without hot toppings). As for the décor, well, it definitely caters to families which is totally understandable. There is ample seating. There is even outdoor seating. What I love about the place is that it offers two couches in the back with a large chalk board and kids toys and books as well as paper and crayons to color with. My nephew LOVES coming here. More for the fun than the custard! :-) There is also a fireplace in the winter. Many music groups and what not meet up so sometimes there is even free entertainment! As for service, well, it is always teenagers, so… yeah. Not the best. It is an «ice cream» place though… so I really do not care so long as the quality of the custard is divine. :-) Do enjoy!!! Oh, and they offer a ton of unique and interesting chocolate treats as well!

Yes, I acknowledge that it’s a problem that I’ve never been to the OG location in Brookside, which is one of my favorite neighborhoods in our fair city. But, the product and friendliness must be the same. Frozen custard is pretty much unknown in California, where I misspent much of my youth, but it’s a big deal in the Midwest. It’s a creamier version of ice cream, and Foo’s makes theirs fresh everyday. This location is roomy, with room for kids and they sell merchandise and(gasp) Christopher Elbow chocolates.
