Great burger, great malt and good for a fast lunch. Way better than any burger chain. Old school griddle burgers and hand dipped shakes. It is what it is and I love this place for the occasional calorie splurge.

«The Snack Shack.» An unassuming name for a place with such delicious food. Someone compared their burgers to Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, saying they’re similar in style and better in flavor — this is exactly correct. The key difference? I’m pretty sure their meat is never frozen at The Snack Shack, because the flavor is fantastic. The patties are bigger and the bacon is meaty. The buns seem to be homemade, are very soft, rich, and really complete this burger package perfectly. I indulged in one of their chocolate malts. Unlike at Freddy’s, you really get what you pay for here — the plastic 20 – 24 oz. cup was filled way above the rim(dome lid on) with rich, creamy blended ice cream. Some people mentioned not being impressed with their shakes, but I am a milkshake fanatic and I was very pleased. The flavor had plenty of depth despite having been made with chocolate ice cream, and was a satisfyingly thick and smooth shake. Come and visit The Snack Shack, you won’t regret it. Even if it’s out of your way, the food is worth the journey. Expect to pay around $ 20 for two people, depending on the food you get.

Want to feel like you’re stepping back in time? Go to this place. Quaint countertop service and very solid shakes and steak burgers. We’ve always had great service and really enjoy speaking to the staff. We’ve had to wait a few minutes to snag weekend lunch. Very popular during OP Farmers Market season — but they do have some outdoor space. Think of a more authentic steak and shake or shake shack burger… Moderate pricing. We will be back!

Really good burgers and fries. A little off my beaten path, so not somewhere I will probably get to very often, but I wish I could. Look forward to trying the malts sometime.

Best Burgers in Town! McGonnigle’s beef, great folks that own and run it — My Favorite The malts are awesome, fries are hand cut and when fresh the best. A «Hidden Gem»

The burger and fries are mighty tasty and that alone makes this a great stop. The onion rings are nothing special and would skip them next time. The staff is friendly, prompt and like to visit when not busy. Give them a shot. I will be back.

Awesome burger, great little diner! They now have a new customer. Will compete with any greasy burger joint in this town! If you want a diner burger and a shake, this is a great recommendation. 5 minutes from my office and never knew they were there, if they were publicly traded i would be investing today!

Great burger spot! They make big and juicy burgers, crispy fries, onion rings, and thick shakes and malts. It’s a fun little place with bar-style seating inside and picnic tables outside, which are perfect on sunny days!

Really enjoyed our meal earlier today at Downtown OP’s Snack Shack. Owner took great care of us and was very attentive. We ordered 1 Double Burger with Bacon and a Single Cheeseburger and Sweet Potato Fries. Both were freshly prepared with the beef medium-well and the fries perfectly seasoned and crispy. Lettuce, pickle and onio were all fresh and crunchy. Owner shared a little of Downtown OP’s history along with a local that passed along a little OP history/flavor as well. Thought the prices were a little high relative to other local burger joints. But that’s a small complaint. All in all a wonderful hamburger experience. We’ll both be back soon. Put it on your list of Top 15 Burger joints in the Greater KC-area.

I would have gladly handed Snack Shack a 5-star rating, if it hadn’t been for the fries. They were at best, mediocre — despite them being handcut. Accompanying the fries, I got the Sassy with grilled onions, avocado, bacon, and Swiss cheese atop a thin, slightly greasy patty. Holy moly, the only thing it was missing was a fried runny egg, and it could have easily been one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. I don’t even like bacon, but theirs was thick cut and not rock hard, so I think it complimented the burger very well. My boyfriend stayed true to being boring and got the regular ol’ burger with cheese and fries combo. He still very much enjoyed it, despite its boringness. The restaurant is a bit on the dive-y side, which was unexpected on the outskirts of the Downtown OP. The employees were very friendly and on the young side. And when I say that, I mean my age. But you don’t know how old I am. I dare you to take a guess. :) I would definitely venture back here for another Sassy burger. Overall: 4⁄5 Food: 4⁄5 Service: 4⁄5 Atmosphere: 3⁄5

This is an awesome faux dive located in the mildly hoity-toity Overland Park, Kansas. The only thing that prevented it from being a 5-star, for me, was the average fries. But don’t let that discourage you from coming on in. I came with my girlfriend after work in my hoity-toity necktie and businesswear(I don’t live in OP, though). There were some disgruntled regular-types sitting at the counter, and the young staff in the kitchen. The staff was extremely nice and welcoming. They took a moment to explain the source of their food and to say their fries are handmade(which I appreciate, even though they were ordinary). One of the staff members made a recommendation to me, and I complied. My sassy girlfriend didn’t need no stinking recommendation and went with the Sassy(grilled onions, avocado, bacon, and Swiss cheese). She doesn’t care for bacon, but liked it here. And no, I don’t care for bacon either. Sue me. Call Shook, Hardy & Bacon, LLP. The burger itself was solid and of the thin-patty type. Think Freddy’s, but markedly better. The onions were top-notch, too. A lot of charm can be found here with the friendly staff, hodgepodge décor, and location. I really wanted to give five stars, but with fries being such an integral part of the diner-type experience – and theirs being average – I couldn’t. Staff: 5⁄5 Burgers: 4.5÷5 Charm: 5⁄5 Note: The restaurant is ON Santa Fe. The road. Not Santa Fe, New Mexico. Remember this when typing it into your GPS.

Neat little«hole in the wall» joint for a burger. Shakes are amazing. Burgers were good but a little thin for what I like. Limited seating but that’s ok as they have outside seating… Would give them another try.

My only complaint is that I didn’t try this place when I lived closer than I do now. Oh well, that’s on me. And the drive from Shawnee certainly isn’t the least bit prohibitive to going back. If you like the diner/greasy spoon style of hamburger(thin, a teensy bit greasy, crispy around the edges), you will love it here. The burger is the perfect diner type burger. Perfectly thin, good meat, just the right balance of grease and juiciness(don’t let me make you think it is greasy, it has a touch of grease, just like it should), little crispy delicious bits around the edges… On top of that, it’s on a nice, soft bun, good cheese, pickles, etc. It was freaking fantastic. The fries were thin and sort of floppy and excellent. Typically I like crispy fries better but these were really tasty and good. On top of that, they serve shakes. My chocolate shake(Who cares that it was only 30 degrees outside…) was perfectly made. The shake was the exact thickness a milkshake should be. Just thick enough without being tough to suck through a straw. It was fantastic. One of my favorite all time meals is a great cheeseburger, fries and a shake. Snack shack does all those things very well. What’s not to love about that?! We will absolutely be back. Seems like a great place to go on a nice evening, order and eat outside in the park or a table on the sidewalk. Sounds like perfection tome.

We popped in for a quick lunch today because we were close by. The burgers and shakes were amazing. Usually bacon on a burger isn’t cooked well and this bacon was very crispy and delicious. This is way out of the way for us, but we will make the trip to eat here again! Cute little place to grab a burger and shake(the strawberry was amazing)!

A friend of mine could not believe that I have never been to the Snack Shack. He knows I like(love) burgers and this knowledge completely baffled him. Last week I made the drive to downtown OP. Holy Hamburger! How could they be open so long and I not know about it? The burgers are full of flavor and perfectly cooked. You know a good burger when the juice starts running down your arm. My friend is right. This has to be the best burger in Kansas or Missouri. And those fries!!! Hand cut fresh every day and fried to perfection. These guys have it got it going on. Can’t wait to go back. In the meantime, I need to get out and about every now and then, and validate that best burger claim. Try burger joint A, come back to Snack Shack to compare. Try burger joint B, come back to compare…(Like I need excuses to come back!)

Pretty good little burger place, very reasonably-priced and good size portions. The place is pretty tiny and all seating is stools only(probably seats 20?) So not great for young kids or large parties but definitely a great burger joint. Milkshakes tremendous too, a nice locally owned place to visit in the heart of downtown old Overland Park

Flat-pressed, slightly greasy burgers, hand-cut onion rings and fries have me drooling to come back here. Snack Shack is a fun little place(emphasis on little!) that is next to the Santa Fe Commons park in Downtown OP. I’ve always had the friendliest service when I come here, and while it does get busy inside around lunch hour, you’re pretty likely to get a spot at their counter style seating. I’ve found that at a place like Snack Shack it’s best to stick with the classics, so I always get a double with onions, pickles, lettuce, and mustard. I don’t bother with guac and anything else here. The fries and onion rings are always good, but I’ve had them a few times and they were noticeably different??? Maybe some are hand cut and some aren’t, so it’s a bit of a roll of the dice, but either way they taste spot on. Never quite gone full Snack Shack and ordered a milkshake because I’m always so full after going here. To me it’s either food or either milkshake, and I gotta have the burger just walking in here. I’m not sure a ton of people know about this gem, so skip any fast food if you’re around here and come check out and support a fun, delicious spot.

Small little burger joint in Old Town Overland Park. Service is good and the burgers are solid but the fries are just OK. Everything is made fresh to order so you will wait about 5 minutes to get your food. Well worth a try if you are ever in the area. I recommend the Sassy Burger!

Burgers are probably the best burger I’ve had since moving to the area. The patties have an awesome ‘crunch’ from the flattop. Buns are super soft but don’t fall apart. I seriously dream about these burgers. Fries taste fresh and the onion rings are always on point!

Very good, greasy spoon type, flat grill burgers. Home made fries that are very thin & cooked perfectly. And battered onion rings. They offer a single, double & a few specialty burgers. Plus a hand breaded pork tenderloin that I CANNOTWAIT to go back for! But being my first time I had to get a burger. The Sassy burger had bacon, cheese, grilled onions & guacamole. It was delish! I got 50⁄50 O-rings & fries. Plus a root beer whip(blended float) that was made w/IBC Root Beer. They didn’t use all the root beer to make my whip & gave me the bottle still 1⁄3 full to help wash down my meal. Everything was very good, but just not great. I work near by & will definitely go back regularly when I want a good, greasy burger. But I wouldn’t go waaayyyy out of my way seeing as there are so many great burger joints in town. They have a very small patio w/a window you can order from outside. And there is a nice little park literally next doors. So plenty of options to eat outdoors so you can walk off all those extra calories, lol. Oh ya, they make great milkshakes the only way they should be made, with real ice cream they actually scoop out & milk! Hard to find a milkshake like that nowadays for us milkshake purists, haha. Give the Snack Shack a try!

This was my first and last visit to Snack Shack. We ordered two burgers, an order of fries, an order of onion rings. We waited 42 minutes for our food and when it did arrive it wasn’t hot. Horrible service and mediocre food. Save yourself the time and money, go elsewhere.

On a cloudy, cold day, I ended up in Overland Park, Kansas after completing some deliveries. Ravished, I decided to go on the hunt for some food and by chance«Snack Shack» appeared out of the corner of my eye. After avoiding a car accident, I parked in the park’s parking lot and walked inside. The Snack Shack is a moderately sized restaurant(maybe will seat at max. 30 – 50 people) that sits adjacent to a park. The décor is comparable to an adolescent’s bedroom. Posters, drawings and photographs are carefully framed and mounted on every wall and forgotten vinyl disks are hung from the ceiling. Moreover, popular 90’s alternative rock music like, «Walk like an Egyptian,» is played in the background. After entering the restaurant, I was greeted by a very friendly waitress and an equally friendly waiter/cook. I quickly decided to order the Sassy Burger and the 50⁄50. After placing my order and paying for it, I took a seat at one of the many bar stools, which line the walls. Within the next 30 minutes, my food was prepared and ready to be devoured. The Sassy Burger is a fantastic burger with an appropriate name. With swiss, onions, and avocado, a girl like me can feel somewhat healthy when eating a nice piece of meat with strips of bacon. The bun is toasted, leaving an additional crunch when you bite through and the onions are grilled to translucence, not browned(which I like). Moreover, the burger patty reminded me of a steak burger’s patty: thin and filled with flavor. Finally, the 50⁄50 was surprisingly very good. The onion rings are heavily battered, but are cooked correctly. On the other hand, the french fries are very thinly cut. I thought I wasn’t going to like them, but they ended up being very good. My only complaint was that I didn’t have enough money to try the shakes. From just seeing the machines behind the counter, I know that they don’t play when making shakes. Next time, I will definitely get one. ^_^

My hubby and I ate here for the first time last week. It’s a cool tiny place to eat and very friendly. We ate at the bar and could watch them getting our food ready. The burger tasted very fresh and all the ingredients were places perfectly. You know you hate a messy burger. ;) The fries were hot, crispy and flavorful. They are the skinny fries and they won me over. First skinny fries I’ve ever liked. Our chocolate shakes were perfect. Great food, friendly service.

Another place I’ve always driven by and seen but just never had a chance to eat there.(I just need to make a list and complete it!). I’m very glad I made the choice to stop in. The service was great and the entire place was clean. I ordered the Bobby with the 50/50(fry/onion rings combo). The burger was awesome! Very good meat and the jalapeños and onions were cooked perfectly. Amazing taste! Just how a burger should be. The fries and onion rings were a generous serving and were made to perfection. I have zero complains. In talking to one of the service people he stated that they’ve only been around 3 years. However, after you visit, you will think that its been around for years. Great food. Great environment. Great service. Couldn’t ask for more. I will definitely be telling my friends and coming back. Go check it out!

Checking out the hamburgers on the KC area. Found this place through Unilocal. Ordered hamburgers. French fries and onion rings. Oreo, my dog, is excited! We all liked it, including Oreo! We sat at a picnic table nearby. And there’s a park across the street. Oh happy day!

Snack Shack is pretty solid. If you’re looking for a fresh, hearty no frills burger this is the place to get one. It is tiny, and you feel a little squished if you’re sitting at the little sidebar facing the wall between where people are ordering and the door, but I’ve never had trouble finding a seat. The staff is fast and friendly and they seem to have regulars. All ingredients are FRESHFRESHFRESH. The burger is thick & juicy, not too greasy. Portions are large, fries and o-rings are good and burgers are spot on. Also, the old fashioned milk shakes come in a glass with the extra in the metal shaker on the side, and they are to die for. Perfect little lunch spot.

The PooPoo and I decided to hit Old Town OP tonight and see what looked good. We had noticed Snack Shack on previous trips in the area and decided to make it our destination tonight. We were not disappointed. We each had a burger. She had a cheeseburger with the normal toppings, I had the Sassy burger hold the onions. We also split an order of 50⁄50(fries and onion rings.) I enjoyed the Sassy burger. The burger was tasty. It wasn’t juicy, but it wasn’t dry either. Just a good solid burger. It had Swiss cheese, bacon, lettuce, and avocado(an avocado spread) on it. It was a nice combination of tastes. The lettuce I do not normally like shredded on a burger because it gets messy, but they put the burger together perfectly so it is not a problem. The rings were great. They are large, battered onion rings. I like batter over a breaded ring. They were a bit overcooked for me, but still good. The fries were excellent. A decent size square cut that was perfectly crispy, maybe a touch over cooked, and meaty inside. The service was fantastic. The PooPoo has a fake baby for a school project today and everyone talked to her about it and was very friendly. Luckily, the baby slept during the time we were there, but I have no doubt every one would have been great if there would have been a little outburst. The building is small, with limited seating spots. There is outdoor seating to enjoy on nice days. Don’t let the size discourage you, grab a stool or if there isn’t room, grab a sandwich to go, it is worth it. Prices are great. We spent around $ 15 and that included a soda. Menu is really small and simple, but it doesn’t need to be more than it is.

I came here for lunch since I was in the area. Parking was pretty much whatever you can find in front or around this place, but it wasn’t hard to find parking. This place was pretty small and had like those 50’s décor to it. There were a little over a handful of people already eating here. I sat and looked at their menu on the wall. The menu was simple so it was somewhat easy to decide what I wanted and their menu was available online as well. I ordered the Sassy Burger($ 7.50), Sweet Potato Fries($ 3.00), and a soda($ 1.00). It took a few minutes before my food was ready and brought over to where I sat. The Sassy Burger was not bad and I liked the avocado in it. It was a little on the greasy side since my burger was dripping but not bad at all. The Sweet Potato Fries were good, but the amount was a lot especially if you’re not really into it. I almost didn’t want to finish it but figured I’m not usually in this area to eat. If you’re a hardcore sweet potato fan, then you will definitely like the Sweet Potato Fries. However, I’m indifferent about it but that was a lot to eat. The price I paid total($ 13.05) was a little high for the amount of food but I suppose it was okay this one time. lol While I was eating, I overheard other people talking with the girl who worked there. It sounded like a lot of these are regulars so they knew each others’ names. Of course, they could have just met and were making conversation. Since seating was limited, then you will have others sit next to you. That doesn’t bother me but it might for others. Overall, I thought this was a good place to grab a quick bite to eat.
