One word comes to mind when describing this place and the food… Dreadful. How it gets so many good reviews is beyond me. The only explanation I can come up with is that these customers are use to poor quality sub standard food. I assumed it would be a good choice because diners are usually good… At least where I’m from they are but boy was I wrong. The waitress was nice enough. I do give her props for washing her hands. I walked in the bathroom when she was there and she was in the middle of washing. Thank God for that. I ordered the chicken croquettes. It’s really hard to mess them up but they did. They were so dry. They smothered them in mashed potatoes and gravy to try to cover up how dry they were. They were obviously frozen and microwaved. The food came out too quick to of been cooked fresh. What really skeeved me out was when I found a black hair in my potatoes.(I’m blonde). I ordered carrots and was brought Cole slaw. How you confuse the two is beyond me. My parents ordered the spinach pie. Obviously it’s not ordered often because the waitress didn’t even know it was on the menu. BADSIGN. The spinach was nasty and frozen and old. The pastry was so bad they couldn’t eat it. My daughters fries were under cooked and her chicken was dry. I do not recommend this place.

Really good food and such nice staff. One waitress tonight but she was amazing. And real old fashioned desserts. We had rice pudding, coconut cream pie and the BEST coconut cake that I have had in years!!! Yummmmmmmmmm!!!

Such a great place for breakfast! But get there early or you will have to wait awhile. It’s a great family owned restaurant and it shows. The take out is good as well

Great breakfast place. Good food, prices and service. Usually busy so you may need to wait.

ever since the new owners took over the restaurant is filthy. floors, tables, windows, almost everything i looked at was dirty. even the seats you sit on. the waitress was very unprofessional. the food sucked. the food i had was nasty. a patty melt is always put on rye bread not white. they don’t even know how to cook right. and when you ask for bbq sauce that is supposed to be what you get. they gave me cocktail sauce. they need to get new people and the health department in there to inspect the place. i do not recommend to go there to eat.

Had the stuffed roast beef. The stuffing was literally a pancake underneath. Not served with syrup, though. The roast beef was not fresh. Side order of peas and lima beans weren’t the greatest either. Service was friendly, but a little odd. I received the check before finishing my meal and then the waitress asked if I could write out the tip on the receipt while she hovered over me. I heard somebody next to me got his order screwed up, also. Perhaps I came on a bad day?

Stars are to keep it same as we did not end up eating here — just make sure you call first — we turned up and they were all on vacation! Shames as it looks like it would have been good!

this is a staple for me whenever i go back to lancaster to visit my mom. my step dad eats here every morning for breakfast. and he and mom eat here every weekend for breakfast before church. as an off-shoot of louie’s on rohrerstown road, alice’s is the typically fantastic greasy spoon breakfast. the staff goes out of its way to make customers feel like part of the family that owns the place. their variations of breakfast specials make it affordable to get combinations of eggs, meats, pancakes, waffles, home fries and other breakfast fare that will satisfy any appetite. for me, love to be able to come«home» and get a nice side of scrapple with the tasty egg and home fries combo.

I keep searching for shrimp & grits or grillards for breakfast in PA. I guess I will to move closer to NOLA. This the first time I’ve been here. The food. Is good & the staff is friendly. Looks like typical diner food on the menu. I would recommend this place.

So this is only a first impression review, but hope it helps… We went here for Sunday night dinner… the place was actually somewhat busy which was a good sign — you could definitely tell it had a little bit of a following. My favorite part was the atmosphere… very clean, quaint, busily quiet, friendly… everything a diner should be. Our server was prompt and pleasant, and from what I could tell was taking care of a lot of other people. Anyway, we had cheese sticks, the Pittsburgh salad(fries and strips of beef), and a Greek gyro. The food was fine and definitely in satisfying portions. All that was around $ 20, which is par for the course. So I would say this diner is decent… 3 star material, but the atmosphere and friendly service gave it a 4th. Woo hoo!
