Ken’s Bar-B-Que

Very dry meat with hardly any flavor to it. Would not recommend to anyone idk how there are so many kens bbq locations because the food is awful!

Growing up this was one of my favorite lunch spots. The food quality seems to have gone down quite a bit and the prices are expensive for the mid Level Quality of food that you get.
That being said there are still a few good things about this restaurant. The place has good ranch and great sweet tea. although my review is accurate, I still feel bad leaving a 2 star review:-)

Good food, not great… a place like this should be hand making there own burgers and fries
Instead They seem like they are standard off the shelf premade frozen patties etc…4 stars if this changes.

The steak sandwich is the best for lunch! Corn nuggets is the best side! Sweet tea is good as well!

Kens has 3 locations in Lake City. It’s Mother’s Day 2015 the other 2 locations are closed: this is the only one open and its 30% full so my question is why did I order the AUCE pork why is plate empty and my drink empty I tell my wife to get us reorders I go to bathroom come back and are food and drink are still empty WTF why didn’t you ship waitresses from the other 2 locations to work on Mother’s Day. Did I mention they fries tasted like left overs warmed up.

If you like poorly made fatty dried out ribs (that a dog won’t even eat) dried out wack wings, unseasoned okra, sweet potatoe fries that are almost cooked with too much cinammon sprinkled on it… then this food cave is for YOU! Cause it sure wasn’t for me and my husband. We feel like we got punked! We should’ve went back to Sonny’s barbecue. OHHHH and don’t get me started on that Ken’s mild barbeque sauce… UGHHHHHH…BABY BYE!

All in all, very good. Not too far off the highway, excellent pork and brisket sandwiches. Prompt service. Ask for the different sauces — they are all good. Prices are reasonable. For Moms on the go — they have no fruit option or milk. We will be back if we pass through again.

Traveling from Texas, my friend and I stopped here on a Sunday afternoon (awesome that they were open), and ordered the all you can eat fried chicken (!) upon the suggestion of the super nice waitress. It was, hands down, the absolute best fried chicken both of us have ever eaten. It was crispy on the outside, moist and hot on the inside. It came with a perfectly toasted piece of garlic bread, and the fluffiest of mashed potatoes.
Local fare that is delicious and totally affordable, plus the ambience was delightful! GO TO THIS PLACE!

One of three location, this one is the smallest, but IMO the best. My standard is the turkey «working mans» combo (get it on garlic toast) which includes the sandwich (just bread and meat) a drink and crinkle fries for about $ 5. The roasted chicken is perfect (get a half). Sides are so-​so. Ribs are also messy goodness. Sweat tea is delicious. My fav sauce is the sweet sauce, but spicy is also a hit. Fast friendly service even during the lunch rush.

Had the «Ken’s» ribs which were tender and juicy. Service was quick and friendly.

Travel through this area often, been here about 8 times, was able to sit down and eat instead of to go, so I got the pork and ribs combo. Neither were warm so obviously just sitting there for awhile but I only got two ribs, what a joke and neither had much meat on them. The bbq beans and potato salad were very nice portions and good, but very disappointed in the meat. Doubt I come back.

Food was good, but not amazing. Clean restaurant. Friendly wait staff. Reasonably priced.

Found this via Unilocal,looking for something original and tasty on a long road trip. Ken’s fit the bill!
It’s just off 75, right before the junction with 10 (if you’re heading North on 75 that is). It’ll be about 2 miles down the road, and you’ll have to pass chain after chain of restaurant, but it’s worth the slight trek.
I ordered the BBQ beef lunch plate and a baked potato with a side of garlic bread and coleslaw. The meat is served dry and there are 2 sauces on the table, a ‘sweet’ sauce and a ‘mild’ mustard one. The sweet sauce was very sweet, very ketchup-​y. The mild one had a stronger mustard\vinegar taste and I preferred it. Since there was a mild though, we asked if there was a spicy. There is! ALWAYS ASK FOR SPICY! It was delicious. Heavy on the black pepper with that mustard base… just awesome.
I sampled the fries and wasn’t all that impressed (pretty standard crinkle cut) but I did dig the coleslaw. It was made fresh, not real heavy on the mayo and slightly sweet. Could taste the celery seed, and that’s a good thing in my book.
It would have been a 3star joint had we not had the banana pudding. At $ 1.50 a pop, it makes for a cheap and delicious end to the meal. Definitely made from scratch, including, I think, the vanilla wafers. They were more like slices of pound cake… holy crap. It was AWESOME! Make the trip just for that!

From what I have read about Ken’s I was a little disappointed, so 3.5 stars for now. I had the ribs and found them to be a little dry. The sauce they make there is quite wonderful and can make anything taste good. The cole slaw was so so, sort of like you get at any restaurant and did not stand out, but the fries were nice and hot and the sweet tea was good also. The other people I was with had the pork sandwich and the turkey sandwich and thought they were quite good. Maybe I caught them on an off day for ribs so I will have to give them another try. The service was quite good also.
