The hamachi crudo was great, the«seared» ahi was terrible(warmed to a grey on the outside, not seared), everything else was okay. The service was sooooooooo slow. Both times we are here there was a 30 – 45 minute gap between app and entrée. We were assured this was a fluke the first time, and they even comped our meal to apologize(which is the only reason we came back). But the second time it was just as bad. If you’re staying at the hotel it’s really worth the short drive to the nearby outdoor shopping area with all the other restaurants. We had several great meals over there with exceptional food & service(Merriman’s, Tapa’s, Bubba’s, etc). If you can’t leave the hotel Lava’s is a better choice.

Upgrading the review to 5 stars. The leeches martini is excellent as are all the signature martinis we’ve tried here. The Mai tai is also pretty good. Ask for Noël(the bartender), he really knows his stuff. He can doctor the drinks based on your exact specifications and likes. We also came in after some hors d’œuvre elsewhere and shared their butterfish. Flaky and made to perfection. I don’t remember the last time I’ve had such great seafood. The one thing to be aware of is that the restaurant isn’t open till late. On our first night we got drinks just before the bar closed and a gentleman that came with us couldn’t order food because the kitchen was already closed(before 10A). In fact most restaurants close early in Kauai we were told.

Made reservations on Unilocal… worked great and had no problems when we arrived. We had window seats, which would be awesome during the day when you could see anything, but it was after sundown so we saw our reflections… but that worked too. Haha. Our food server, Rosellyn, was wonderful. We liked her as she was mellow and knowledgeable. Everything was delicious. For a starter we ordered the Hawaiian Flatbread… sausage and pineapple. Nice and cheesy. For main course, I had the fresh catch of the day, which was yummy… had a crab mix on top. I ate every bit of it. My husband had the filet mignon. He had ordered it medium but in his first cut it looked well done. Rosellyn was happy to take it back for him but when he made a second cut, it was perfect.(Just that first cut at the end was off… no biggie). Rosellyn kept coming back to make sure we were ok. For dessert we had the cheesecake along with tawny port for me and a scotch for my husband. All was delicious. And a generous pour on the scotch! Since we are staying at the Sheraton, I would not doubt that we will return sometime this week!

Buffet was good NOT Grand. Had to take an early reservation per the booKing ladies; SOWE DiD. 5 o clock dinner tiL 715 pm Fireworks at 845 pm. Next event should have been dJ and Dancing in the New Year… But that isn’t happening. At 1035 Dinner quests were still eating and the DJ was not set up. The crowd was arriving with no where to go, stand or BE. Poor scheduling and directing of guests. IT’s 11:1O and we’re back in our condo 37 mins from the Sheraton not spending it the way that was intended. Not Impressed and I’m not the only one. This entire night could have gone differently had the Sheraton stepped up their game. — I Paid way too much(family of four) for SO LiTTLE. ***the champagne toast at midnight that we were to show receipt|return for didn’t happen. Sheraton and spectacular; more like a ShiTSHOW. It’s SAD.

The décor is really great as is the view of you get ocean front seating. We had the shrimp lumpia which were ok. It’s a combination of a shrimp tempura and an egg roll but lacks the greatness of either. The kabocha squash soup wad surprisingly good. There is actually a good amount of lobster in it. I got a large claw in mine. The Maui onion soup was also great. The Brussels sprouts were also good. The mashed potatoes were great but came cold. Overall a good meal but to be fair we dined on appetizers and had no entrees.

We almost didn’t come here b/c everyone says«a little pricey» and we were trying to keep to a budget during our vacation but I’m so glad that I came! I didn’t think it was all that pricey. But I live in LA, the land of expensive, so I suppose it’s all relative. We made reservations the day of but that was because we were there during the«off season» of the beginning of December. We got an amazing table right by the windows and had a fantastic view of the sunset. We started off with some drinks. I got some adult lemonade beverage(the name escapes me right now but it was delish) and my boyfriend got some fruit infused rum on the rocks. We started off with the Shrimp Lumpia for our appetizer and it was amazing. I was THISCLOSE to ordering a second one. Seriously — order it! For my dinnner — I had the crab crusted crusted catch of the day which was opah. Very good. The sauce was on point. My boyfriend got the steak special which had a sauce that I could have eaten with a spoon. After dinner, we ordered drinks to go(yes, you can do that) and sat outside by the fire. It was the perfect end to a fantastic vacation.

A group of friends and family and I went here on a Friday night to celebrate, and I have to say, although they’re very pricey and meals and dessert might look small, in the end it was all very satisfying. For my main dish I ordered the Hawaiian Jerk Chicken, which was delicious and very fulfilling. The dish came with a side of mash potatoes with a sauce that all went well together. For dessert I got a Belgian waffle topped with a large scoop of green tea ice cream, drizzled with honey and chocolate syrups. The portion was small, but I didn’t really complain because I was already pretty stuffed and in the end it was just right. Additionally, the service was great. Our server was very kind and considerate. The wait for our food wasn’t that long either. Evidently, my favorite part was our view of the sunset from our table.

Amazing. We had the Brussel Sprout appetizer… Wow. Dinner my husband got the Land and Sea and I got the Filet Mignon. Both were outstanding. Dessert we got the flourless chocolate cake. Yum! Service was great too! Our waiter was so kind and even asked if we were ready to order or if we wanted to just hang out for a bit before we ordered. I’ve never had a waiter ask that and it showed me he wanted to make sure our evening was relaxed for us. Overall, outstanding!

While visiting Kauai, the wife and I tend to lean towards eating at local places and avoid large hotels or chains. This isn’t a weird rule or anything, just something we do, and I am glad we don’t adhere to it 100% of t time, because every now and then you need a proper sit-down meal. We were in the mood for something nicer and took the recommendation of a trusted friend who happens to be in the culinary industry and ended up dinning at RumFire. Our experience at RumFire was just that, an experience. Sometimes going out to eat is just that, eating, nothing more, but at Rumfire, I felt the blend of customer service, good food, ambiance and location/view came together and provided that special something, an experience. We called ahead for reservations, which I would recommend, the restaurant is within the ground of the Sheraton; therefore, you have a good number of people within walking distance to the restaurant, also I just prefer having one, it makes life easier. In regards to food, see below, clearly I copy and pasted from their menu for the ingredients, would hate to misrepresent what I ate. Starter — Popcorn, nuts and pretzels. These are free and arrive while you’re being seated, low cost but highly effective to start your system off with something slightly salty and after spending a day in the sun sweating, a bit of salt is certainly required, Appetizer — Fried Brussels Sprouts — Portuguese sausage, spiced macadamia nuts, miso vinaigrette. Very well prepared, arrived on a cast iron plate, lots of flavour, a bit of sweet and a bit of savory. Appetizer — Hawaiian Flatbread — portuguese sausage, pineapple, mozzarella, tomato sauce. I wish we could call these rectangular pizzas, but the culinary world has adopted the term«flatbread.» Regardless of the naming, the taste was spot-on, fresh pineapple, pork and cooked perfectly. Main — Braised Beef Short Ribs & Crab Crusted Catch of the Day. The wife order this dish, I heavily sampled it, the short ribs were packed with flavour, moist and fell apart. I don’t recall which fish was crab crusted that day but it was good nonetheless. Main — Butterfish — rice wine chili glazed, veggie fried rice, sizzling herboil. A fun dish, not as heavy/filling as a steak or salmon, but just the right amount of food and well balanced. Drinks — There was a MaiTai competition being held that pits local bartenders against one another. I think it was something like $ 12 for an order that includes two MaiTais and a score card that allows you to cast a vote. These weren’t mini/sampler sized drinks either, at least 8 or 10oz each, quite the deal if you ask me. I had two rounds as did the wife, the drinks were tasty and super interesting, you could tell the bartenders were using unique ingredients but still adhering to the flavour profile of a traditional MaiTai. Dessert — Scotch for the lady, Gin and Tonic for me, we’re not dessert eaters. Service was excellent, attentive, but not overly so. The timing of our main courses was perfect, the wife went to the use the powder room and upon her return, there they were, two delicious mains. Would I come again? Certainly. There is only one problem with RumFire, it is in Kauai and I live in SoCal…

RumFire is at the Sheraton Resort where we stayed on vacation. If you are a customer of the Sheraton they offer a Social Hour Wine Tasting held at the RumFire at 5pm. As I am getting a glass of wine from the wine tasting choices for my husband and myself, I turn around to find him at the bar(which is still closed) asking the bartender to put on the Oregon Ducks football game. All the other customers are sitting and standing in the main area because not only is the bar closed but the restaurant is also. I walk over to the bar anyway. Nobody stops me and the bartender greets me with a smile and asks if we are dining and offered us menus. In a way I felt bad because I hear an employee tell another couple the bar opens at 5:30. oops. For 20 minutes we had the bar to ourselves. Maybe because we are from Oregon and we have Hawaii’s Marcus Mariota. Something was in our favor and we were treated very well. We had dinner reservation by the window for a view of the sunset but stayed at the bar. Can not say enough about our dinners. Seared Ahi and Filet Mignon. Not only were both dishes perfectly prepared but the presentation was very nice. Of course our bill was quite large but it is a Hawaiian resort, ocean front dining with a sunset view. We had a great experience.

Ugh. This has all of the worst features of a hotel restaurant. Uninspired food, mediocre-to-bad service, sky-high prices, and big crowds. The view is outstanding, and if you want a nice place to watch the sunset in Poipu, it’s great, if you can get a table on the right side of the restaurant. But, I would rather sit outside, have a better view, watch the sunset, and then head somewhere else to eat.
