Kauai Down Under

Captain Justin and Dive Master Christina were terrific. Not only did I have two spectacular dives I learned alot about «spinner» dolphins, whales and some general tidbit about Kauai. I would have loved to made another trip but will have to wait until next time. Very professional and made the experience top notch.

I got to go on a dive with Justin (the captain) and Josh (the dive master). They are extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife and the dive locations. It was a small group with only 3 divers so it was a cozy trip. I would highly recommend these folks because it’s a small local company with a friendly staff and great rates!

We chose Kauai Down Under to finish the teens PADI certification dives. Greg and team were phenomenal! Prepared, professional and a great experience overall. The certification class was excellent and my kids learned a ton and had a great time. They cannot wait to go back and dive with Kauai Down Under and Greg again. The dive site was cool. We saw turtles, fish, dolphins, Cowrie shell, Crown of Thorns, Morays eels and a Spotted Eagle Ray.
Greg was our dive master and teacher and was awesome. He covered everything in detail and cheerfully answered all our questions. We did a Zodiac boat dive and had a blast. I am not sure about the negative comments but we had a A++ experience.

Did the discovery dive which was great, the guide was good, but tied up from some yahoo who couldn’t manage themselves. Was told ²¹⁄₂ hours but was over in an hour and still had 1200 psi of air left. Would have liked to utilize air a little longer.

Something is really wrong with Kauai Down Under.
I’ve dived with them many times over the years, and had Mike teach my kids. But this last trip had so many red flags associated with it that I won’t dive with them again.
* They no longer work with Lawai Beach Resort (I should have ended our engagement with them when I learned this).
* Lack of preparation for our friends’ intro session at the Sheraton’s pool
* Lack of accommodation at the Sheraton made me doubt their relationship with them as well
* Questionable turn over of personnel (including dive master Mike) just 2 days prior
* Untrained new employees with limited knowledge of KDU and island
The final straw was that they cancelled our dive at Tunnels the morning of the dive due to «questionable conditions.» Never mind that there were scores of divers/​companies there with divers at all levels of experience, and we did get in the water at Tunnels that day. They left a late message on our voice mail, but didn’t have the decency to speak with us directly and chose to leave 5 minutes before our scheduled arrival. My guess is that they had scheduling and staffing issues. We spoke with other dive companies who confirmed KDU is having difficulties and has been canceling dives like ours with some frequency.
Here’s the thing…
As my son said, «Dang, that was going to be the highlight of my trip.»
I don’t believe their «reason» for a minute.
No apology. No rescheduling. No nothing.
With no trust left, there is no point to continuing my long-​standing relationship with them.

Tunnel beach, great guide (Walker). Easy beach dives, about 30 – 40′ depth. Cool lava tubes. Really good beginning to low intermediate dive.

Did a tour with Mike & learned a lot. He showed us a variety of marine life– octopus, eels, sea cucumber, turtles… amazing experience!!! I’m already planning on taking another tour with him next time I come to the islands.

We did a beach dive. It was fantastic. Our guide was very good. He made me relax and I was able to go down on the first try after a year. We are going again with him tomorrow at 8 am for a boat ride. I am nervous again but hoping he will calm me down. The dive site was fabulous.

My new wife and I on our honeymoon decided to take an introductory dive and this company was very knowledgeable and helpful for beginners. I have scuba’d a few times and my wife zero yet the female instructor was able to manage us both even with our different experience levels. Unfortunately the day we were supposed to dive the swell picked up at Tunnels and the visibility was down to about 7 feet. This made the instructors job very difficult managing to keep track of 4 divers. Multiple times I lost sight of the group but the instructor always managed to show up to guide us back yo the group. Thanks for the memories!

LACK OF INTEGRITY! Purchased a used scuba tank a couple of years back for paintball from these folks and initially got sold a tank that was past hydro certification. I returned to the store to get an exchange and they gave me an updated tank that had a few years left on the hydro certification. They told me whenever you need to do VIP or fills come back to us so I did. On 9÷16÷14 I called to get my tank filled and they said we don’t do fills anymore try Seasport Divers. I went to Seasport Divers to get a fill and VIP and they said that my tank was made in 1987 and they wont do VIP on tanks from 1988 or older. REALLY I GOT SOLD AN OLD TANK. The question here is Why do you take advantage of your customers who don’t know much about scuba tanks? That is not how a business should operate.

I own a dive shop in Monterey, Ca and have been diving for quite a while. I understand the importance of great service and safety during a dive. I also appreciate when the dive professionals work with each diver to make sure they have the best dive possible. I have been diving with most of the shops on the island and always come back to Kauai Down Under for both shore dives as well as boat dives. I have never been disappointed and would highly recommend the shop and the dive staff to divers of all levels of experience. When my son and his wife, new Open Water divers came to the island, this is the only shop I let them dive with.
The dive groups are small, the background briefing is exceptional and the attention to safety is great. They are my go-​to dive shop on Kauai.

My husband has been diving for a few years with our son. Now that we are empty nesters, he signed me up for the discovery dive with Kauai Down Under Dive Team. Ryan met us and was really easy to understand and very comfortable to dive with. I had no apprehensions at all. I think my husband was pretty impressed too!!!

My husband and son hot Advanced Open Water certified this week with them. The instructors were good and prices were comparable! Nice 20% discount on any equipment etc. when you are a student!

Great Dive Experience! My husband and I had dove with them years ago and had a great experience. Our 14 year old son wanted to go diving and we decided to use them again. Ryan our instructor was fantastic with our son and really explained everything to him. We decided to get certified using Kauai Down Under and they were fantastic. Ryan was very clear with directions, detail oriented with his explanations and took us on some great dives. I would not ever go with another company since we have had a total of 7 dives with kauai down under and all have been great!
