Pizzetta

At 3pm on a Saturday the place only had a couple customers, so I was served quickly.
A slice was $ 4.50. Cold, and had waited a while in the cupboard, but the crust was still tasty and the thin layer of cheese and pepperoni were an upgrade over supermarket frozen fare.
Is this on par with true Napolitean pizza, no, but then I don’t think that’s their market. It’s a decent slice of cheese-​carbs-​meat for an amount which, whilst high, is on par with food of similar quality on the island.

Hostess was very friendly and accommodating. Our server, Jerell, was on top of all of his tables. An awesome waiter! Everyone seemed super stoked to be working there. Lots of smiles and hard workers. Just the kind of place I’d want to work at or own. Happy employees make all the difference in the world… especially in the service industry.
We didn’t have reservations, but went in around 7:00 on a Sunday evening. We waited for only 5 or 10 minutes for a table. I’m assuming it would be a good idea to make reservations during high traffic times. It was busy when we went in, but people were coming and going.
We checked in on Unilocal and got mozzarella sticks. Layers of bread and cheese with just the right amount of spices. So good! I had the Italian Chop Salad and my husband had the Gnocchi with Chicken. Both dishes were delicous! We will definitely dine here again on our next visit to Kauai.

On my fourth trip to Kauai, I have found that success has ruined Pizzetta. The place was packed. It took me 10 minutes of waiting just to get my name on the waiting list. I was asked for my phone number and was told that I would be texted in 45 minutes. It would be worth the wait, I thought, so we went to the bar. The bartender ignored me when I spoke to him three times, but he would talk to my partner — he is white, I am Asian. I hate that. And the bartender still didn’t bring the water I ordered with my drink.
45 minutes later, no text, so we checked. The hostess said she forgot to text us and gave our table to someone else. She accompanied us back to the bar and actually told us we could dine there! We reminded her that we placed our names on the waiting list and had been waiting. We did not accept seating at the bar asked to speak to the manager. The hostess walked us to a different part of the restaurant, told us to wait and said that the manager would come speak to us. The manager did not come. Then a waiter came up to us and told us not to stand where the hostess told us to wait. We tried to explain this to him but he would not hear any of it. He insisted on moving us, first, to the crowd outside, where all of the people were waiting for tables and then, second, to some chairs. We reminded him we were there waiting for the manager. He never bothered to get the story from the hostess and never tried to get the manager. I told him that we would leave if he would pay us back for the drinks. He did. We left.

I haven’t been here in years so I was happy to come back. They obviously primarily offer pizza/​calzones but also have plenty of pasta dishes and a few other options. Service was great throughout the meal.
To start we got the free mozzarella sticks thanks to the Unilocal check-​in deal! They were not at all what I was expecting and boy was I pleasantly surprised. I thought we were going to get those round breaded sticks that most places have but these were unique rectangular shaped things with nicely melted cheese in the center. They also came with a nice sauce. I would definitely order those again.
We ended up sharing a lot of the other dishes we got. The chop chop salad was good. A nice portion size and plenty of the listed toppings. The shrimp puttanesca calzone was so so. Not much shrimp inside. The star of the night was definitely the kalua pig and cabbage with rice. A huge portion of the meat and it was so damn flavorful. I’m drooling remembering it. The only thing I would have liked would have been a little more veggies or something to counter the meat and rice. Otherwise delicious!
