We wanted to eat fish and chips before we left Seattle, and it worked out that we could try Spuds! Overall, it was good. Fried fish and french fries are always good. We got it to go and ate it at our hotel about 15 minutes later, so that may have affected the food. Fish — a bit on the salty side, I think it’s because the fish is sliced thin. it was very very oily, which makes sense, but it was just… a lot of oil. Hahaha Chips/Fries — good, thick fries, went very well with the fish Fried Calimari — also very very oily. more oily than the fish. but again, it’s fried calimari, and it tastes good! wasn’t too fishy or salty. Garlic Aioli sauce — get it!!! this stuff is great for the fish and calimari! Parking is in the BACK — make sure you park back there, the parking lot on the side is for another restaurant.

The young people that work here are nice, however the portion sizes they give out for the prices we pay is absolutely ridiculously small. $ 10.00 for Salmon and chips, the 3 piece salmon was 2 ½ pieces and the large fry that comes with it was ½ filled = a small fry. Can you say… RIPPEDOFF???

The fish is good but… What fish n’ chips place have you ever been to where they charge you for tarter sauce when you just bought 2 $ 15 fish n’ chips. Then you tell me that most everyone eats it without sauce. You can’t afford to give me 10 cents worth of tarter sauce when I just spent $ 30+? Horrible customer service not the fault of the staff but of an inconsiderate owner! Why no bags for my take-out? You just wrap it in paper and rubber bands and call it good. Poor business management! Shame on you!

The fish unfortunately was overcooked and dry the fries weren’t anything special, the food is ok but I’d defiantly try to go elsewhere for my fish and chips

Not bad. It is hard to find really good fish and chips that are similar to back home(England). The fish was pretty good but I have yet to find chips done the English way.

It’s fine. I paid $ 19 for a double order of halibut & chips and an order of calamari, a large tartar sauce, & malt vinegar. They also wanted a tip for the half dozen kids standing around. The fries were not hot. The squid was & so was the fish, but it was dry. I don’t know why I keep ordering halibut when fried cod is so much better, cheaper & never dry. I considered trying the clams, but for some reason no one on the west coast does clam bellies– whole clams, they just do strips. I don’t get that. If you have the clam, cook it. All in all, Spud does a decent, not greasy fish. I won’t be running back though nor will I make visitors come here. I’ll be back sometime.

Best fish and chips anywhere. A word of warning though, there is a charge for ketchup and tartar. Nevertheless these guys set the standard for fish and chips. I’ve eaten a lot of fish and chips in a lot of places and these guys are still the best.

Charge for ketchup?!? Get over yourself. Not bad for fast food fish and chips. But not worth the absurd price.

I have very fond memories about Spuds from my youth and I have been a patron for approximatly 25 – 30 years however after my last two visits I do not believe I will be returning anymore. Customer service and communication is everything when you are building or maintaining a customer base and the last two times I have visited Spuds I ended up waiting in line for 20 minutes purely because of the wrong order being delivered. If I build a system and had employees I would think they could rear it and that customers could make sense of there receipts. Beyond customer service the food has dropped off, the fish filets are getting thinner and the crunch of a fantastic piece of fish is gone. I believe the icing on the cake for me was when I had a $ 130 order and had to pay an addition quarter for some ketchup… I will now spend some extra time and head to Burien for the all you can eat fish and chips at Wallys.

I go to this place more than I should… Please up your prices by at least 100% so I can’t afford to come here anymore.

The staff here seemed to have the look of «I don’t give a f***!». When I walked in no one said hello or acknowledged me, they just stared at me, which was very creepy. I placed my order and paid, but it was so quiet in there(patrons and staff) that I left once I got my order. It was like invasion of the body snatchers. WTF?! P. S. the food was pretty good, but it was a little too reminiscent of Long John Silvers.

I’ve been a HUGE fan of Spud’s since the early 70’s, all my childhood memories flood back to the Greenlake location, since I had 2 good buddies work there over the years. I know not all of the Spud’s locations are owned by the same folks, so having visited this location, twice now, I will say, the product does carry over to this location as well as the Greenlake location… YUM!!! Yes, they charge for condiments, there is a sign, yes, there are price differences in the size of the F&C’s, there is a sign, and if you happen to ask one of their counter folks, I’m sure they’ll get you the details, just don’t be scared to ask! Outstanding tar-tar, I have to give it 4 outta 5 Michelle B’s Tar-tar stars, in my book it’sa solid 5 outta 5! The place can get messy a bit, don’t look under the tables, and you’ll be fine. Only 4 Unilocal stars as the counter help seems to be there just to serve you up fast and get you out the door. I have no issues with that, but some folks might find it a bit surly and brisk. My childhood memories are stirred by the blazing hot fish, that still, burns the roof of my mouth each and every first bite, because I can’t wait… pure delight.

Too expensive in my opinion, but worth the splurge for a good basket of chicken and fries! I don’t like that they charge for ketchup, so I usually take it to-go and bring it home! :)

After unfortunate experience with the staff on our first attempted visit(see below), the owners contacted us very swiftly to remedy the situation. They were quite kind and courteous and so we drove 30 minutes out of our way to give Spuds a second chance and brought a friend. The staff treated us great. The dining area is very clean — inside and out. The picnic benches outside are quite nice. The cod is similar to British style(sans skin) — nice and thin and the breading is similar to Ivars(which we like). My husband enjoyed the tartar sauce, while I preferred the garlic(?) vinegar. We also tried an order of the fried shrimp, which did not last long(popular with the little ones). The milkshakes hit the spot and I appreciated that they were not too sweet. Between the owner interaction and the customer service on our second visit, we had a great overall experience with Spuds and recommend this establishment for tummies hungry for fish and chips! Thank you so much! — — — — — We’re parents with two small kids and we all love fish n’ chips. On the 4th of July we were hungry after having spent the day at a nearby park. We’d heard good things about Spuds, so we paid a visit. When we pulled up the OPEN sign was still on, the doors were unlocked and there were patrons inside eating, but as soon as my husband walked through the door at 6:57pm(their posted closing time was 7pm), a young man named Logan greeted him rather abruptly and rudely with, «Sorry, 4th of July we close at seven.» My husband, shocked by the rudeness, checked the time on his smart phone and pleaded with Logan: «I have two hungry toddlers and a pregnant wife in the car. Smart phone time says 6:57.» Logan shrugged nonchalantly, «Sorry.» My husband replied, «I’ll never come back and this will be on Unilocal.» Logan indicated that he didn’t care. My husband asked for his name and then wished him a happy 4th. It’s always unfortunate when employees promote themselves to «owner» and make decisions above their level of responsibility. ownership clearly took employee social needs into mind by allowing a closing time 2hrs earlier than normal. Closing an extra 3mins early was simply greedy, rude and unnecessary. Even though I’m sure Logan acted unilaterally with complicity from his shift mates, the business still needs to be held accountable for the poor character of the employees they hire. And if they take advantage of the business is this way — what other ways might they treat the owner and their clients when other things become inconvenient?

I love Spuds! Their fish and chips are always hot and delicious. Never had a bad experience with the food or staff in the 4 years I’ve been eating there. Try the shakes too… so delicious…

Wow. I saw horror icon Chucky there live and in the flesh. He had that maniacal smirk, those menacing eyes, and of course that red hair. He was there with his parents and throwing a fit in their booth. And not the kind of toddler tantrum a parent puts an end to with a stern look — but an eruption of evil that had his parents looking damn scared. I so wanted to snap a pic on my phone but was frightened he might see and come over the table at me in a bloodthirsty rage. So I ate my fish and chips(which were delicious) at one of the tables to the left of the door, careful not to turn my back on him.

A staple and landmark. Spud Fish and Chips has been around for generations, and while this one may not be the original its is equally as good if not better and to me its the only Spud. Spud Fish and Chips may not serve traditional style fish and chips which many seem to complain about but that doesn’t make them any worse, Sure I like many would appreciate a light crisp beer batter, but to maintain a solid, consistent beer batter all day with the amount that Spud fries especially when they get busy, form a business and restaurant perspective its just the smarter choice. For those not familiar with Spud, you will immediately identify it by the large sign that can be seen form all directions. Once inside especially when busy, one will without a doubt be hit with the scent of fryer oil. Before approaching the cash register you’ll notice the menu up above with, ore than just fish. Options include chicken, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, shrimp and my personal favorite the clam strips. Oh and don’t forget the aioli! When it comes time to order whoever happens to be working the register is typically helpful with explaining and suggesting on how to order. After just a few minutes they call a number rand there’s the hot and ready fish! As someone who ha grown up in the area I have had my fair share of Spud Fish & Chips. Especially with the relation with Juanita High School. As many times that Iv’e been there, I cant say I ever felt the service was poor or rude or anything bad. On a side note though, it seems most of the workers here are fairly young fresh out of high school college age. While there’s nothing wrong with that I believe there’s a misconception, because for the most part they know what they are doing That being said. Spud has an open kitchen you can rally see everything that goes on especially the interactions between staff members. I will say this though, seeing these young kids and young adults perform these actions of producing food for valued customers with continued hospitality and almost never breaking a sweat, is a true joy and pleasure as I know exactly what it is like to be in those shoes. At the end of the day Spud Fish in Chips is not perfect .However they have continued to to great business with the same recipe for nearly a century. So no matter how you feel I encourage you to go down and enjoy some deep fried goodness.

The owner was really nice in writing me to say that the fish is fresh from the Bering Sea and that she appreciated my patronage. So updating so I’m not spreading false rumors. Still not a fan of the food, but now a fan of how they do business =).

Caveat: I know that Americans aren’t super big on old school fish and chips, so I didn’t have super high expectations since I’ve been spoiled by all the local fish and chip shops overseas. We ordered the zucchini sticks and a double with a meal upgrade and split that between two people. The fish was okay; it was pretty tasty and flaky. Most of the fries were fine and actually pretty crispy and good, except I got a few that still had the potato skin on them that hadn’t been cleaned. They tasted like dirt.(To be fair, it was just a few fries, but still…) The meal upgrade(medium drink, ketchup, tartar sauce, tiny tub of coleslaw) didn’t really seem worth it for $ 2.99. The drink is pretty big, to be fair, but for a single meal upgrade you’re paying for way more ketchup and tartar sauce than what you need, and the coleslaw is so laughably small I’m not sure what the point of it is. If you just got the single fish and chips and a meal upgrade, you’re paying upwards of $ 9 for a pretty mediocre meal for one person. The fried zucchini sticks were pretty disappointing, since they just premade breaded zuke sticks with jar marinara sauce. They were crispy on the outside but a bit overcooked and soggy on the inside. I find charging for sauce weird. Things like malt vinegar and lemon slices are free, but tartar sauce and ketchup are. But it strikes me that more people would use things like tartar sauce and ketchup, so it seems like charging for it is just a way to irritate your customers. As far as atmosphere goes, there’s not much to be had in the restaurant. I suggest getting your food to go and taking it across the street to the beach for a picnic. I guess the short version of this review is «meh». I’ve had better, but you’re not really going to find better in this area as far as fish and chips go.
