Love this place! The owners are great as well! Food is always fresh and done just the way you like it! You of course have to try the Maui Man Martini! Sooo ono! Just make sure you don’t drive after a few of these! Calamari best on Maui!

What a nice surprise. We asked a course marshall on the Emerald Course in Wailea, Maui, to recommend a good, local flavor, seafood restaurant. He said that although he hadn’t eaten there yet, he had heard very good things about a relatively new restaurant called«Ohana» located in Kihei. It’s comfy-funky, but it’s food is far more sophisticated, creative in its composition and well prepared than one would ever expect from a small, comfy-funky beach town restaurant. It’s only been open for 9 months and its owners, very welcoming people who enjoy their customers and have a genuine desire to provide them with delicious food and good service, are updating, upgrading and renewing its look as funds allow. We were served by the loveliest of young men, Brenden(sp?). He was engaging, enthusiastic, generous and provided excellent recommendations for menu choices. The bartender created a Mai Tai and Margarita that were some of the best we’ve had. The margarita was prepared from scratch, not a mix, and the Mai Tai had some unusual flavor components, prepared in such a way that the flavors weren’t just blended together but retained some of their distinct characteristics. A very worth trying gastronomic surprise with welcoming and genuinely committed service. A gem in beach funky clothing. That’s Ohana.

If you’re in Kihei Ohana Seafood Bar & Grill is a must try! Delicious calamari and coconut shrimp, fantastic drinks, and the service is incredible! Brendon was exceptionally helpful and so much fun! I highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting Maui!

The service was ok. The food was NOT. My risotto was very undercooked, sticking all over my teeth. Our vegetables undercooked as well. Not impressed and very expensive.

I don’t know why I always choose the hamburgers in these places, to say it was bland would be giving it more than it deserved. I asked for a done cheeseburger and it was burnt and tasted like it had been done for a couple of days. I’ve found that most hamburger in Maui is on the bland side. Maui grown cows, who knows but try something else! My husband had a steak sandwich which was much more appetizing than my burger and the kicker is it was same price. At 15.00 for each one do yourself a favor and eat at home. Service was ok, not fabulous not bad. But with no customers to speak of they should/could have been better. Had to ask for mustard and they should have asked if I wanted mayo but they dumped it on the table and trotted off. Won’t go back again. But hey, they also offered calamari, maybe I could have gone away full of tentacles

Decent place with really friendly waitstaff :) Ended up here due to the unfortunate closure of a nearby food truck haha. Food is average but the outdoor seating and fast service make up for it. Ordered the Hawaiian style ahi poke which with huge chunks of ahi and a mound of the usual white rice. Advice? If you end up here, sit outside, enjoy the view and the fish tastes fresher in no time.

Sign says Best Calamari on Maui but it’s not. They serve it cold. Our male server is not friendly. The price for the food is a little bit expensive. Our water glasses are all empty but we did not get any refill, but the other table got it. We did not get any good service like he did in the other table. My friend also order beer but she didn’t get it. Bad service Our server has a favoritism since. Not coming back here again

We only stopped by for a couple of drinks and why not get an appetizer of calamari?! Service was good and girl was friendly and pleasant, Can’t say the same about two piña coladas we ordered. Short and small glass oppose to other drinks we had in local places were a bit disappointing from just a look of them, especially when price on the menu was saying,.“those are huge and tasty”). But they were icy, watery and I can swear there was just a smell or rum, if I wanted a virgin drink, I would have a coke. Hint* ask for double shot or at least mention to add liquor, because they must have forgot to add any. I’ll try my next drink elsewhere. There is a good bar down the stairs in Lahaina that has 5,50 piña Coladas and they were some of the best we had here, worth the drive. Cheers!

The food and the service were really good. But then we used the bathroom and there was a cockroach in the sink. To top it off, they lost our credit card. Wouldn’t eat here again.

Food was good, service was great: pricing was on the high end with $ 12.50 for a calamari appetizer(which was hot but not exciting) and $ 16 for fish and chips(fresh, crisp) and $ 13 for a glass of wine. But wait! It’s got a nice view of the beach and it’s Maui… So maybe, yeah, once in awhile: let’s do it. However, foodie that I am, I know there are more exciting dishes out there in a similar price range. BUT you don’t want to wait an hour? This place is great.

We stumbled upon this little gem our very first night in Maui and plan on going back again tonight(our 2nd night in Maui)!!! My fiancé and I were immediately attracted to the bar area, which is located outside, yet seems to have that open Maui outdoor feel. We were immediately greeted warmly by the bartender Ryan, and we therefore decided to enjoy our meal at the bar. We could not have made a better decision. Let me preface by saying that my fiancé and I are both extremely picky eater, but for opposite reasons. He has a lot of foods that he doesn’t like and tends to live in the comfort zone of meat and potatoes. I, on the other hand, am in the industry and am always looking for something new and exciting that I have never tried before. We both looked at the menu and said that we wanted to try everything on it! Everything looked so unique and delicious. But when Ryan told us of the nightly dinner special, I knew it was over. Seared Ahi with lobster mashed potatoes!!! We shared the special as well as the Huli-Huli Chicken… an all time favorite of mine. Because its a favorite, I tend to be very judgmental of it… and their’s did NOT disappoint. The chicken was tender and flavorful and the fish was to die for. As a chef, I was watching every single plate that went out and was envious of them all! Hence our decision to come back for our 2nd night. Too many good things to try! We LOVED both dishes, yet we loved the company even moreso. Ryan was engaging and helped us(newcomers) plan activities and had a ton of recommendations for us. He is such a gem at the bar, and we were so grateful for his help. We ended up chatting it up with him for most of the evening. The staff was warm and inviting. The food was top notch. The atmosphere is stellar. The only sad part is that Ohana Seafood and Grill is here and not in our hometown. But we will certainly be taking advantage of it until we go home!

We were headed out to dinner for a different place-that had a 40 minute wait. No thanks… we were hungry now. So we cruised around the corner and lo and behold… what was this? Ohana Seafood Bar & Grill? Why does this place not ring a bell? Located off busy South Kihei – in the heart of Kihei, I should remember this place. The staff saw our«deer in the headlight» faces and invited us to be seated. «Are you new and do you have room for a party of 5?» I asked. He smiled and said«Yes. And Yes.» as he quickly wiped down an outdoor table. We were quickly sat and he explained that they had just recently opened… it used to be the Pupu lounge and that’s where it all made sense. I knew something was different. A new place to eat! They sat us outside under the covered porch area. The street traffic was humming down and this place was buzzing. The nice server came over and explained everything to us: they were new, the menu is new and going to grow, and asked if we had any questions.(he also mentioned at the time, that they were able to let customers bring alcohol We ordered: fried calamari, kalua pork spring rolls, and some crab rolls to start off the meal(The crab rolls were not on the menu at the time, the server let us know about them). My husband and I shared a plate of fish and chips also. The food was very tasty and presented well. One of the ladies that was with us had an *extreme* gluten free situation going on and the chef came out to go over how she would like her meal prepared… I thought that was super nice of him. I really think this is a fun place to go with friends. It’s got a great view of Kalama Park(sunset) and it’s sporting a nice chill vibe. The prices are decent and the food is good. We will definitely be back!

It stings to give me a 4 star to ohana because they are a new establishment and they are still in the process of working things out with the menu and preparations. I ordered the fish tacos for dinner and used the Unilocal checkin offer for 5% off. The mango chutney sauce and the creamy thousand island line sauce that go into the taco are the best I have tried in maui. The mango chutney has chunks of mango in a sweet purée. If you add all this to the taco, the flavoring really stands out compared to other taco places that more or less just contain mango slices as their major flavoring ingredients. If i were to go again i would ask for additional mango chutney as you can never have enough of this. The one and only qualm I had was the seasoning on the fish since it was lacking(this is surprising considering that the seasoning is intense in maui). If you can char the fish and make it more flavorful I think ohana will have one of the top 3(or perhaps the best) fish tacos in this area.

This location has been a few different restaurants over the years we’ve visited the island, and I do say, this current ownership is one HUGE improvement over the previous establishments. We arrived after a bit of inline skating across the street — I know, skating in Hawaii, but what FUN! We needed something to eat and drink afterwards, and headed across the street. Our hosts’ first choice for refreshment was overcrowded, so they spotted Ohana and decided what better than to explore! Of course! That’s the Unilocaliest thing to do! ;-) The menu is concise, good plan for a new establishment. Dietary needs — just ask. If you’re celiac, be aware the fryer is shared. The appetizers looked delicious, but the majority at our table ordered tasty fried things I couldn’t taste. Just fine by me, I was holding out for the main event. As mentioned, I had questions about the gluten-free status of the food and how they take care to prevent cross-contamination. Chef Thomas came out, was well informed, and asked what I wanted — he’d make it. So many things looked delicious on the menu, so I said surprise me(just no coconut… please). Chef made me seafood risotto … it was HUGE. I almost finished it. Had to roll out of there! ;-) There was calamari, shrimp, mahi mahi cooked just right. Cheesy and flavourful. Chatting with the owners through the evening, they have experience, and chef has impressive credentials from establishments around the world, from rescuing restaurants in trouble to 5 star hotels. Before you get to Ohana, if you’re looking for a cool one, you should hit the liquor store first. BYOB until their liquor licence comes in and they are not charging corkage until then. They even offered to keep ours in their fridge until we needed it. Unexpected care. Foodland is just down the road for a quick beer or wine run. If you want to drink, you’ll need to be aware that the licenced areas are inside and on the upper patio/lanai — it’s a local law, without a fence(or permission for a fence), they can’t serve or allow consumption on the lower outdoor street-level area. Sitting outside was a great choice for us. This was not a place you rush in and out of… and it shouldn’t be. You want quality, fresh, locally sourced ingredients, you want them treated with respect and served properly. I look forward to visiting next time we’re on the island… same time, same place. To the folks who think these reviews are not genuine… far from it. I’d recommend before making accusing statements, please do your research better. Read up on the background of folks writing the reviews. You’ll soon get a better idea of who writes real, genuine reviews. I’d say most of us genuinely care to write what we really experience — even if it’s not the best rating. I take pride in giving most places a 2nd chance when they bungle up service if I can. I think the stats on the reviewer factor into the restaurant rating, and in this case… stellar.

A fairly new restaurant to the area but had good reviews on Unilocal so decided to give it a try. Not a busy place yet but definitely should be. Our service was great and the food was delicious. It is BYOB so we brought our own wine and beer. Our second bottles were stored for us and there was not a corkage fee. As we were being seated the table next to us suggested the special which was Mahi mahi with a vegetable risotto. She said it was incredible. I took her advice and she was so right! The mahi mahi was perfectly cooked, tender and flaky. The risotto was flavorful and creamy. A simply delicate yet incredibly delicious dish. As a group we started with the calamari and the pork spring rolls. The calamari was not overly breaded, cooked perfectly(not chewy as calamari can get) and very flavorful. Everyone enjoyed it very much. The pork spring rolls were delicious, definitely not your traditional spring roll. The pork was super moist and the roll was super crispy — great combo! Overall the group really enjoyed their meals, the atmosphere is inviting and relaxing and we had excellent service. I would definitely recommend!

We stopped in to Ohana’s last night after a little bit of inline roller skating across the street at the park. This location was host to a bit of a dive restaurant previously. Ohana’s is a new restaurant with new owners/management and it was a great experience and worth a try. The bad/good news is that they don’t yet have a liquor license. The good part of that news is that until they do you can BYOB in with no corkage fee. They will also store your drinks in the cooler if you bring a few so they stay cold until you want them. One of our group of 5 was Celiac so the chef came out to chat about what could be prepared for her safely. He is a chef with many many years of experience and decided he would surprise her with something off menu(which ended up being an awesome seafood risotto). Our group ordered some appy’s — seafood/pork egg rolls and calamari. A sign outside says«Best Calamari on the Island!» and I think they may be right on that one. I haven’t had any others on the island but it was one of the better calamari dishes I’ve had. Fried calamari in kung pao sauce with peanuts — excellent! I ordered the Ohana burger for my supper which was very good. The patty is freshly made and all of the fixings with it were fresh and tasty. I was really eyeing the skirt steak and mashed sweet potatoes. That looked delicious and I think I will return to try that out before leaving the island. The owners/partners we met were really great and want to provide great service and food in their new establishment. Our group was very very happy with our experience here so try it out!

November 15, 2015 Sunday — 7:45PM for dinner 4 adults Atmosphere — 5 star Food & Drinks — 5 stars Service — 5 stars Background — We know this place is new because of Unilocal, but the menu looked so good. Easy walking distances from our place. Atmosphere — A restaurant is small strip mall with another restaurant as a neighbor. Big windows that opened up to the breeze and a view of a park. Food Drinks — I brought my own beer. Food Appetizer — The table ordered two. One was calamari, really done well. The second they called a pork egg roll. The thing was not what I expect, but I loved it. Deep fried pork in an egg wrapper Main course — I had the fish and chips. Three large pieces that were crunchy on the outside and flaky inside, perfect. Not covered in oil, I hate that when my fish is that way. Service — It is a BYOB place right now. The group brought wine and two tall boy cans for me. My second can was taken to the frig for me. They did not charge us a corkage fee either. Future — Hopefully in the future.

Went here last night and for a place that has been open less than two months, they are doing a good job to make good food and provide excellent service. I tried ordering the flat iron steak and shrimp, but they were out of that and the only other beef option on the menu was a burger. I decided to go with a ¼ chicken with wasabi potatoes. The chicken was moist and the potatoes were creamy.(I was expecting more of a wasabi flavor and would ask them to amp it up on my next visit.) The service was friendly and attentive. It is a BYOB establishment, but there is no need to bring a cooler if you need something chilled. They took my buddy’s second beer and refrigerated it until he was ready for it.(Very cool!) No corkage for wines, if you were wondering. The prices are very reasonable — The total bill for four of us was $ 100 before tip and that was with four mains and two apps.

The sign out front that says«Best Calamari on the island» is what drew us in. Neither of us ordered Calamari but it sure looked good. They just opened a few days ago so it’s still a work in progress. There was only one guy working the front and one in the kitchen. They were doing a phenomenal job keeping up because it was busy! I had the coconut shrimp appetizer which was 6 hand breaded shrimp with a sweet and spicy Chile sauce. The shrimp were very fresh. Probably the best coconut shrimp I’ve ever had. As I said, they are new and still working some bugs out. The food is great and the guys working are friendly and busting their butts. They seem genuinely happy to see their customers. I plan to come back and try the calamari.
