Amazing. One of those times where you’re on vacation and never know what to expect out of a restaurant, and end up being blown away. The food was absolutely delicious. Everything we had I was ready to order more of. It is BYO which we didn’t know and were fine without having it as an option. We had the Ahi«Nachos» which was very tasty, with fantastically fresh ahi and Shrimp Tacos which I could have eaten 10 of those tacos. Somehow they had the exact perfect spicy-ness of hot pepper, not too much not too little. Awesome! Our entrée was a ribeye with chimichurri sauce that was phenomenal. Even the rice underneath the steak was good. Simple flavors executed perfectly. Hidden gem in Kihei!

30 years vacationing in Maui, and this is one of my wife and I favorite We even drive 40 minutes from Kaanapali and make reservations in advance. Over the years we have dined in every fine restaurant on the Island, and this one ranks close to the top. Latin inspired adds flavors to all their dishes. Suggest BYOB, and they will provide the glasses and service. We have never had an appetizer, main dish or desert we did not rave about. Suggest making a reservation. It is not a fancy restaurant, but the food is sensational, the wait staff is friendly and helpful, and their prices are lower than the fancy name restaurants.

We were very impressed how amazing everything was. We called about half an hour before and they only had outside seating. Next time we will make a reservation so we can sit inside. The spicy tuna nachos are amazing and also not what I would consider nachos. We got the sword fish classic style and monchong house style. Both amazing! We will definitely be back.

We came here on a recommendation from a friend and we were NOT mislead. It is a small restaurant so make a reservation and get this… its BYOB($ 10 charge per table). This seemed weird for us over regulated and ruled Canadians-we felt like we were sneaking in our booze. But everyone was doing it so you feel comfortable fast. We had a lovely waitress –Karen. She was fun and enjoyable all night. She gave us some suggestions. I wanted to try the AhiTuna tacos as a house specialty but she said that it was big and my hubs doesnt eat anything that swam so we decided to share the pupu steak as an appy. Oh My Gawd. It was so yummy-we were both spooning the sauce and wished for bread to lap it up with. For our entrée-I went for the mahi mahi done traditional in lemon/butter and capers. My hubs went for the chicken which was a condon bleu kinda with a chipotle/spicy tomatoe twist over top. Both our dinners were served on truffle mashed potatoes(stupid divine) and mine came with perfectly steamed asparagus and his with green beans. We shared dessert which was great as well. Carmel and two scoops of ice cream and fresh fruit. The reataurant easily cracks our top reataurants and is reasonably priced too. It was more attentive and special than some of the highly priced restaurants on here. Great spot. Hope you enjoy it too.

Everything was AMAZING!!! Spicy tuna nachos, pupu steak, our entrée & dessert. There’s only one dessert choice — get it. Favorite Maui restaurant. I’ll definitely be back. Shout out to our waitress, Karen, who was super attentive! Awesome service.

Cuatro was really good, the spicy tuna nachos were great and our entrees were great as well. Service was really good and the ambience was cool. Only downside? No bathroom in the restaurant… Had to walk to a restaurant next door… I would give them 4 stars for this but my wife loves their food so much that I’m goofing them 5 stars…

Great food, awesome service and cute décor. We rushed over to score the happy hour prices but never received the 25% off discount, so just a heads up on that. The spicy ahi nachos, tacos, seared ahi and mainly everything we ordered was cooked perfectly, tasted fantastic and looked beautiful. We would definitely come back for the delicious food.

You’re in Kihei, and tired of the ordinary hole in the wall Maui fast food. Where do you go? We were going to the Foodland supermarket, the closest supermarket to our rented condo in South Kihei. Here in a distant quiet inner corner of the shopping center is a nondescript restaurant called Cuatro. The place looks very ordinary from the outside, large windows fronting another business. Enter the front door, and the surroundings transform out of the ordinary: wood framed mirrors on the off white walls, padded mahogany wooden chairs, white table cloth, with glass tops, black cloth napkins, besides gleaming silverware. A dark haired Italian looking maître d’ with black slick back hair is there to greet us, straight out of the Godfather movie, dressed to the max with a vest, white shirt, black pants and polished black leather shoes. It’s 405pm Tuesday, and only one of the other 10+ tables is occupied, by another couple, dressed like us in T-shirt, shorts, and sandals in the 85 degree November heat. We get one of the few window seats, with an ocean view? Are you serious? The only view here will be of the parking lot. Prices are like there is a view of the ocean. We check out the appetizers on the other table: $ 10 calamari, $ 19 pupu steak, $ 12 shrimp mini tacos, $ 15 Ahi tuna. Tiny servings. The Godfather maitre d’, when the phone isn’t ringing off the hook for reservations, advises us that an appetizer or two won’t fill my large belly. Bring your own beer –no problem as I don’t drink anyway, although the wife often likes red wine with her pasta. . I get the $ 24 «South of the border» pork with chili verde. When it arrives, it looks like meat loaf, but tastes fine, but nothing spicy. The wife gets the $ 27 «Acapulco Shrimp scampi» — linguine angel hair pasta –ton of cheese plentiful shrimp, very filling. BYOB also means bring your own bathroom, as the restaurant shares a bathroom outside with several other establishments, including a thrift store next door. Wife tried the bathroom, and it was occupied all the time –probably by one of the homeless folks, who was using it to take a sponge bath. Will we be back? Not worth walking 40 minutes one way from our condo at Maui Kamaole. But we are here to get the 3 half gallons of POG for $ 5 from Foodland –cheaper than the $ 5 a gallon at Costco. Hot date? Yes, Cuatro will do, although if it’s my ex-wife, your judgement of women is worse than your judgement of restaurants. Cheap date or date with wife? Cuatro is overpriced for what you get, compared to Bay Area prices.

Make a reservation guys. They’re a smaller joint with tight reservations. Do get their spicy tuna nachos, pupu steak, shrimp tacos, and calamari! 25%off the menu during happy hour. (I would pass on the crab cakes. While I love that real crabs were used, I had a lot of little crab shells in mine that made it difficult to enjoy because I had to sift through the meat and eventually gave up and passed on the other two crab cakes. Also a bit on the salty end for my taste.) Overall, excellent service. Byob with a corking fee. There’s a grocery store next door for wine and beer! Cheers.

Visited Cuatro a few nights ago after reading several Unilocal reviews and searching for the best restaurants in Maui. We ordered the following dishes: Spicy Tuna Nachos, Pupu Steak and the Fresh Hawaiian Fish of the Day, House style. All we can say is Wow! All three dishes are an absolute explosion of flavor. The service was fabulous and incredibly responsive. Pricing was very reasonable at $ 70 for two people plus $ 10 in tips. This restaurant probably offers the best food in Maui. What it does not offer is a beachfront Hawaiian experience. I would love to see them relocate to a more exotic location. Overall the best food experience so far in Maui.

Dinner Nov 2015 Have a reservation or your odds are very slim you’ll be able to eat here. Excellent service and nice people. Awesome vegetarian platte($ 23.) Best vegetable dish anywhere. Pupu steak was excellent($ 19.) Watermelon coconut water very nice($ 5.) One star less due to restroom isn’t inside and one must walk to the restaurant two doors down.

Maui local, but my first time at Cuatro. I wouldn’t have expected this nice little restaurant to be located in a strip mall near Foodland. But it was great and amazing dishes all around! We went as a party of 4 and ordered pupus to share. Got the spicy tuna nachos, shrimp tacos, Asian pupu steak, and crab cakes. All were delicious with ono sauces and perfectly cooked steak. I would recommend everything! Only cons: 1) When we tried calling ahead of time we got no answer. Would’ve been nice to have a table reservation. 2) Place needs more help. Service was a little slow, but only because the place is so busy and there were only 2 waiters who were also responsible for hosting and answering the phone. Overall, great food and friendly service. Will definitely eat there again.

Went to Cuatro after searching for food in the Kihei/Wailea area and seeing that it got stellar Unilocal reviews. I’m on Maui about four times a year to visit family and had never heard of this place before. It turned out to be a little gem! At first we were a little turned off because I called twice to make reservations for 6 later that night and no one picked up the phone. Then when we arrived, the host/waiter(only one of two) was a little brusque with us. He brushed us off and said it would be 10 minutes. 10 minutes later we were seated and the waiter immediately warmed up to us when he found out we were Maui locals. He gave us a descriptive list of the signature dishes and chuckled when we asked for rice(white) and he only had rice pilaf(assuring us it was still good). The appetizers we ordered were deeelicious! We had a hard time choosing a favorite: Spicy Tuna Nachos(spicy meets crispy) Crab Cakes(super moist with pico de gallo topper) Shrimp Tacos(creamy, authentic, fresh) Asian Pupu Steak(died for the flavorful mushroom sauce) There were four of us girls and we were happy sharing the four appetizers. Our two keiki devoured the quesadillas off the keiki menu. One weird element was the schizophrenic soundtrack(Top 40, Caribbean, Etta James…) and service lagged a little due to the fact that there were only two waiters and no host. Other than that, we can’t complain! We will definitely be going back for more ono appetizers and maybe next time we will get around to trying the fish entrées with four preparations. Mmmm. P. S. This place is BYOB so stop by Foodland and grab some wine before heading over. $ 10 corkage fee.

I don’t write reviews very often… But this was one of the best meals we’ve had in Maui. The quality of their food was comparable to the food we ate at Mama’s Fish House the night before, at a fraction of the price! We started with the ahi tuna nachos(appetizer) which were amazing, after finishing those I was left wanting more! My wife and I ordered the rib eye with chimichurri sauce and the shrimp scampi and shared the dishes. Both were absolutely fantastic! We finished our meal with a vanilla cheesecake & homemade caramel sauce that was awesome as well. The restaurant is very very small, be sure to call ahead of time for a reservation. Luckily we were a party of two and the owner sat us down in one of the only open tables he had. After he sat us he had to turn away other couples who came in after us, so glad we made the cut! The couple sitting next to us also raved about how this was the best meal they’ve had during their visit to Maui. Also this restaurant is BYOB, they don’t yet have their liquor license but will gladly pop open and pour your own wine for you. A must try!

Small dinning room with lots of energy. Service was great and food delicious. Arrive before 6pm and receive 25% off for early bird. The pork was super tender, moist, and delicious. The mon jong(yeah I hosed that spelling) was prepared wonderfully. The ribeye app and Tuna nachos amazing.

Hole in the wall that serves amazing, creative dishes. The Spicy Tuna Nachos were unbelievable. I’d lick the sauce off the plate if I wasn’t in public. Tijuana Caesar Salad had a spicy kick. The Asian Style Pupu Steak was appetizer size but it was still plenty to share. Our waitress(I believe her name was Karen) was wonderful and enthusiastic. We ended our meal with their sole(but delicious) dessert– a sundae with rocky road and vanilla ice cream(from lapperts) topped with homemade caramel and fruits. Oh and it’s BYOB.

On my very short stay on Maui, I followed the recommendation of my friend and went to Cuatro. It was quite a trek from hotel, but the walk was along the gorgeous coast and the breeze made it all too sweet. Before we hit up Cuatro, we went to the market for a beer to bring inside the restaurant. There was a corkage fee that was more expensive than my beer, but sometimes you could use some suds while eating fresh island food. We ordered the spicy tuna nachos, which were a major hit. We also ordered the classic mahi mahi, which came with shrimp. The fish was perfectly cooked and delicious. I ordered the pupu steak, which came to me at the correct temperature. The sauce the meat was on was savory and delightful. Overall, the portions and quality at Cuatro are on point. They are definitely on my hit list next time I’m on the island.

For an unassuming little storefront in a strip mall, that doesn’t really have any certain direction(Asian, Mexican, seafood… Playing Italian music) this place sure makes delicious food. We went to Koiso down the street because it had been recommended as axing local sushi but… Alas they are a tiny, reservation only spot and we didn’t know. They were fully booked so I did a little Unilocal research and found Cuatro. They were also booked but said they could accommodate us as long as the table was free by 7:30. Sweet! It was only 6:20 so that gave us plenty of time. We shared three appetizers and a main dish. Everything was fresh and delicious. Here’s what we are, in order of favorite first and least favorite last… That said I would eat any of these dishes again. Asian Style Pupu Steak — This is an appetizer but in reality it’s an entire NY steak for only $ 19 in a delicious light, soy based teriyaki sauce with sautéed local mushrooms. It’s one of the few beef dishes we had on our 2 week vacation but the server recommended it so we tried it… great recondition. 2. Fresh catch(Monchong) prepared in the«house» style. This was a delicate, mild, flaky white fish with a Cajun seat, served with rice, and green beans in a delicious creamy buttery sauce with some Sriracha, avocado relish, and masago. It sounds odd and confused(Cajun, Asian, French?!?) but it totally works. It was so good and for only $ 30 was an affordable fresh fish entrée.(all if their fresh catch preparations are only $ 30!) 3. Crab Cakes(the only thing I grabbed a photo of.) They were good, and although they seem to be swimming in sauce in the pic, it’s light and it is not overwhelming. I wish they were a little larger and the crab was the star a little more. 4. Spicy Tuna Nachos — this is sort of a signature dish for them, so we tried it. In all honesty, it was my least favorite dish. But that’s not to say we didn’t finish every bite. It’s spicy tuna, on a fried wonton chip, with some sauciness, and avocado relish, and some greens underneath. Not bad but if you’re choosing one appetizer, go with the Pupu steak. Other notes: The service is great but the number of new plates and silverware we received during our meal was overkill, also it’s BYOB so you may want to stop at the grocery store(right in the same strip mall) and pick up some wine or a bottle of booze for your table if you like to have a drink while you eat.

AAAAmazing! Having stayed both in Lahaina and Kihei, this was by far the best dinner we had all week. Nice atmosphere, welcoming, cosy, and great service. Super innovative and tasty menu, and great prices. They don’t serve alcohol but we were able to go right next door to grocery store and get a nice bottle of wine which they charge a nominal corkage fee($ 10) We had the tuna nachos — highly recommend, and the chimichuri steak(aslo fabulous). reservations recommended.

Excellent dinner, thank you Eric for squeezing us in! Reservations are a must as Cuatro only seats about 40. As others have said its BYOB so bring your favorite wine or beer. We had the house specialty ahi tuna«nachos» which were very good. We also ordered the monchong which was served with a lemon caper sauce on truffle mashed and asparagus, an excellent dish. The Asian marinated rib eye was our other entrée. It was okay, pretty fatty even for a ribeye and didn’t taste much marinade. It was however cooked perfectly. Overall a great dinner and absolutely worth the price. Hope to return again soon to try some different dishes.
