First of all you should take reservations for all sized parties. not just 6 or more. We show up at 7 and get told we have a 45 minute wait.fine.it took an hour 10. Once we walk in there’s only empty tables. Waitress wasn’t too kind for us 3 being locals. Ordered drinks. 2 prime ribs and a steak and lobster. STARVINGBYTHEN! I knocked over my water glass and the Waitress never refilled it. Went my whole dinner without, while watching her attend to the couple other tables. We hit the salad bar twice and before we could finish they brought out our dinners. Fine. Rushing us? We ate in half the time we waited to get in. Typical. But what I DIDNOTEXPECTTOPAYFOR was 12 hours of the worst food poisoning of my life! 2 hours after eating I was stuck in my bathroom with my boyfriend waiting his turn. I had to miss work this morning. Worst experience of my life. You lost longtime business.

If you are in the mood for a large prime rib, this is the place. They also serve shrimp and lobster to go with your steaks. Come here if you are really hungry.

Great service. Great location looking out at the beach. Food was really good too. I got a Porterhouse steak for $ 35 plus $ 3 for a baked potato. Steak was perfect. Potato lacked flavor. We also got steak kabobs which were tender and tastes delicious. Also you get a trip to the salad bar as a bonus!

It’s a steak house in Hawaii… So as expected. Our party of three had an assortment of menu items. Not gonna win any culinary awards for there selection but always reliable . Recently remodeled so not as stuffy as our last visit. Crab legs where large and as expected. Hubby so steak a bit over cooked. I had the special fish of the day. Other than being THE special — nothing really special about the dish. Nice basic salad bar. Right on the water so ask for a window seat.

Best steak in town … Recommend by a local while we were there for vacation. Friendly people generous amount of food. Good service. If we go back to that island we are going back to eat there.

We went at night and didn’t make a reservation — waited for 20 min for a table at the bar. I ordered the ribs, they ordered the shrimp skewers. The salad bar was open(included with our entrees). Verdict: both plates were good, with reasonable portions(the hungriest can fill up on the salad /bread bar). Served Hawaiian style with rice and soya sauce. Had an old-fashioned: good mix but too much ice for an expensive cocktail. Tip: take some sides from the salad bar to go with your main dish(e.g., pineapple, lemon, pickles).

I made the mistake of getting a the bull shed cut prime rib. While really juice, it’s 24 oz(with a bone). Way too much to eat. My three stars isn’t because of my main course, that was really good. My three stars are because of the salad bar and service. The salad bar was mediocre as well as the service. If you’re looking for a good piece of meat, go there… but don’t expect much more than that.

I am always amazed by the fact that this restaurant seems to generate negative, even angry reviews. My spouse and I have eaten here probably ten times over the past five years when visiting Kauai and have never had a bad experience regarding food or service. We like steak, we know good steak and we get good steak every time sometimes with the baked potato sometimes with steamed white rice, feels more Hawaiian somehow. The salad bar is extensive and fresh, lots of good stuff like beets, eggs, chick peas, sprouts and several quality dressings. The service has been great, free refills with sodas and the ocean views are nothing to complain about. It’s also not a loud, wild place, set back from the road a bit. Back again this week and going again.

Ok, so our waitress was amazing. Fantastic service, my litmus test the water refill, was on point. The opah was great, and the salad bar was about average. So why 3 stars? The ribeye was terrible. Gristley, and sat in my husband’s stomach all night. I added on the scallops and they came out covered in cheese… part of which was burned on top. Why ruin scallops with cheese?. The teri chicken was also overcooked. The kona coffee ice cream pie was a saving grace… very yummy. Many people had recommended this restaurant, so I was pretty disappointed with the quality of the food.. .

Rating: 3.5 As with all my reviews for restaurants in Kauai, you have to take them with a grain of salt. Almost none of the restaurants on this island can compare to restaurants on the mainland so you have to judge them for what they are and only compare them to other dining options on the island(which are very limited). The Bull Shed is a steak house with good food at fair prices(especially for the island). It also has the only salad bar on the island that I know of and is one of the only restaurants located on the beach. The atmosphere is funky but pleasant and they sometimes have live musicians for entertainment. We tried the teriyaki chicken which was tender and juicy and I have heard good things about their steak. It is very popular with the locals so there is often long wait times and they do not take reservations for parties less than 6. If you are craving some meat and looking for an easy casual meal this is definitely a great option.

Very disappointing! Food was 2 stars at best. Party of 4 — Ordered steak & lobster, lobster dinner, fish special & crab leg special. The only meal that rated average was the crab @ $ 37.00 possibly the worst $ 38 steak ever & the lobster was boiled(no broiler I was told) REALLY! Under boiled lobster — not good. Fish lacked flavor but when dipped in lobster butter was better. Adequate salad bar & bread. Sorry to say but never again.

The place is a generic and divey, but our waitress was excellent and the prime-rib on the bone was enormous and delicious. We ordered two plates for the 4 or us and took a hefty box of leftovers home. I would go here again, but only for the prime rib.

Weak cocktails, undercooked baked potatoes and ” medium,” ordered steak served raw One star for the pleasant ocean breeze outside our ocean view window and one star for the hardworking cooks. Our waitress, though very friendly, never asked us if we wanted another drink or how our meal was.

A group of six of us came here a few days ago for supper. Ambiance was quite nice. Great guitarist was playing some oldies(Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, etc.). They had a porterhouse special for $ 35 which sounded great. We sat down and our waitress took our order. It took 45 minutes for our drinks to arrive. We also ordered a bottle of red wine and when the waitress brought the wine glasses over, she dropped it on our table and the glass shattered and glass went everywhere. We had to return the drinks we had ordered because there was a high certainty that glass got into our drinks which we had just started sipping on. Our drinks were replaced promptly and we were fine with the mishap. I ordered the Porterhouse along with a couple other people in our party. My brother-in-laws ordered the prime rib. When our orders arrived, I was very disappointed with how thin the Porterhouse was. It was somewhere around ½ inch thick. Prior to ordering the Porterhouse, I asked how big it was and the waitress stated it was around 18 ounces. I would say it was closer to 12 ounces. Meanwhile, my brother-in-laws received a full 1 inch cut(20 Oz) of Prime Rib for an extra $ 5. When we received the bill, they didn’t even comp us our first set of drinks. When one of my brother-in-laws asked why we’re not comped our first set of drinks, the waitress said she replaced the drinks for us at no charge! Really? Are you serious? We had maybe two sips from our glasses before the wine glass exploded onto the table. Not to mention that we had to leave the table so they could clean the mess up. We won’t be back.

Always a stop when I get here and before I leave Kauai. Salad bar comes with your entrée. Steaks are the way you order them, to the«T». If you’re not specific, you can’t fault them for trying. Medium rare with a lil char from the grill… Slipper Lobster on the side with a loaded baked potato, done deal.

We have been to Kauai twice and ate dinner here both times. Fresh juicy Kauai beef cooked absolutely perfectly! Sharon was our waitress and she was very friendly. We ordered the Filet Mignon, Strip Steak, and hubby had the steak and shrimp combo. Everything was delicious! Perfect ending to a perfect day trip to Kauai!

This place is a locally owned ritual that everyone who visits Hawaii should eat here at least once! Try not to come when it’s a very hot day as this place is near the ocean and gets very humid and sticky! Worst off if there is stormy weather avoid sitting at the windows near the shoreline! You will get wet! However; if it is a fantastic day you will enjoy some gracious views of Kauai beach life! There is a open bar salad bar, amazing staff that are pretty attentive and if I were to recommend anything it would be for the prime rib or chicken. Let me tell you how big the cut is! Be prepared for a challenge!

Maybe I was lucky as I see some people have had negative experiences here but we had a lovely family dinner here while we were on the island for the weekend. We had planned going to this steakhouse before we even flew over from Oahu as my boyfriends auntie loves it here. I absolutely loved the name! ;) We had a huge party of 20 so we called ahead to make reservations and they had no problems seating us. This place is a little nicer, right by the water and has a classier feel compared to a lot of the local places. We dressed up a little! They had a gentleman playing live music by the bar and I found the staff all very pleasant. The family ordered an array of drinks and some artichoke dip. I myself had a slightly dirty martini that was perfect! One of the better martini’s I’ve had in recent years. The menu had some lovely meat and seafood options. All entrees came with a trip to the salad bar, steamed rice & garlic bread/butter. You can upgrade to a loaded baked potato for $ 3 which we almost all did. So good filled with butter, sour cream, bacon bits & chives. The three main orders on our table were the ribs, filet and prime rib. The filet Mignon was cooked so perfectly I almost died. It was soft, buttery & just the right amount of pink. You are able to pick plain or black pepper & herb sauce. I sauced the crap out of mine and it was glorious. The sauce added a whole other level of flavor. The prime rib comes in two sizes: regular cut or the double bill shed cut. Thank god we only got the regular because the serving was ginormous! Again, perfectly cooked and tender with an horseradish and an au jus I was ready to drink out of the cup. The entire table fell silent as we solved food down our throats. Our waitress was very attentive and checked on us a few times, along with the manager. Another martini came to me quickly when asked and I was actually sad to wrap up the food I couldn’t finish — I really wanted it haha. No matter how full, we’re a dessert kind of family so we tried out their ice cream sundaes and the special: bananas fosters cheesecake. I usually am a savory eater but this cheesecake won me over. It was creamy, not too sweet and yummy in my tummy. I’m glad my boyfriend let me steal bites after I said I was good heh true love! We truly had a lovely evening out, I found the price typical for a steakhouse and thought the quality of our experience was worth it. I would definitely come again when we visit Kauai next!

Awesome Views! Oceanfront dining at its best! Just steps away from the water, this restaurant has million dollar views of the sand and sea. One can even hear the crashing of the waves while dining inside on one of their perimeter tables. It is a sight to have the ocean just a few feet from your table… Just beautiful. Well, I’ve been going to Bull Shed since I was a child. Every time we vacationed on Kauai from Oahu, we’d always make this a definite choice for dining. It’s a Kauai landmark and it was so nice to go back there after all these years. The food was excellent and the prices were great! We are seafood lovers so we opted for the Lobster Tail Dinner and the Seared Ahi. The lobster tail came with a loaded baked potato. Yummy! The lobster portion was generous and cooked to perfection. The Seared Ahi was cooked in a sweet sauce(teriyaki?) and topped with another white sauce. I liked the sauces because they made the dish different from the usual Seared Ahi entrées you would find elsewhere. We finished both dishes and thought the prices were very reasonable. There is also an optional salad bar with a great selection of heathy greens. We went on a Friday night and there was live music playing in the restaurant. It was a nice touch to the already beautiful setting. Thank you to the staff for the wonderful service. The Bull Shed is still one of Kauai’s landmark«gems»…We will be back soon!
