The best customer service I’ve had at a Hampton Inn. The manager and desk clerk, Linda went out of their way to help us out. Highly recommend.

This is not the Ritz Carlton. This is one of two hotels within walking distance of Sporting KC’s stadium and really the only reason to stay here. Right across from the hotel is Legends Outlet mall(outdoors), including a bunch of restaurants, so it’s convenient to stay here if you’re in town for a soccer match. With that said, is this hotel worth the money? No. Prices easily run about $ 200/night on big game days. I luckily had the foresight to book a refundable room before Houston even qualified for the Eastern Conference Final last month. I used 25,000 points for a king room and sofa bed, so it wasn’t too bad. In comparison, the Hampton Inn right next to StubHub Center in Carson, CA(where LA Galaxy play) typically costs 12,500 points. I’m a Hilton diamond member. At this hotel, there are spots reserved in the front for us. The hotel still makes you sign the receipt, and it’s one of two Hamptons that requires this from diamond members(the other in Roseville, CA). All Hamptons have free breakfast(not the greatest, but tolerable) and hot tea/cocoa/coffee station, which was a welcome sight given the temperature was in the 20s during the game. I do like Hilton because you can simultaneously earn hotel points and United miles(unlike Marriott or SPG). You also don’t need a lot of points for stays, unlike Marriott. I like the variety of hotels that Hilton provides(more than Marriott). I have a feeling I will be staying here again, as it’s next to the stadium, and I come to KC often for soccer events. The staff were friendly, the room was okay, and I only needed to stay for a night. The hotel was quiet(even though fully booked) so I was able to get a good night’s rest!

Just there for one night for a T-Bones baseball game…, clean, comfortable, no complaints. Near a bunch of bars and restaurants. Has an unusual woods-y décor(there’s a Bass Pro Shops right nearby, which may explain the theme). Good breakfast in the morning. I mean, it’s a Hampton Inn in the ‘burbs, so it’s nothing you haven’t seen before… but it gets the job done very well.

Clean room. Clean hotel. Well staffed and friendly. Comfy beds. Wifi is decent, was able to watch Youtube videos no problem. TV had premium channels at no extra cost. Nonsmoking room. Pool is 4ft Max depth and small, but clean and accommodating with extra towels on site. The breakfast is killer for a free hotel breakfast: oatmeal, eggs, biscuits and gravy, Belgium waffles, cereal, baked goods, coffee and juice. To go breakfast bags were available on Friday but not Saturday. Housekeeping will change the bedding during multiday stays if you request it, or on the forth day. Only issues: slow elevator and my key card was deactivated 2hrs before checkout. Also, the adjoining room door and sliding window were not locked. Luckily. I was on the 2nd floor and family was staying in the adjoining room. When my family locked themselves out of their room by leaving through mine, we discovered that the adjoining door is easily opened with a card, which is alarming.

Against better judgment, I stayed here a second time. What’s the adage? «Location, Location, Location» I had a 7.30 am meeting time with a colleague in that Legends area. So, I booked this Hampton, again. On the positive, despite my late arrival again, they did manage to keep me in a non-smoking room(unlike last time). The room was okay. The lady managing the breakfast was very nice. However … Maybe my expectations are out of whack, but I really only need 3 things from a hotel: 1) Clean room; 2) Clean bed; and 3) internet — so that I can work on the road. Okay, it needs to feel safe, too … I guess that was a given. We live in a wired world. Wifi and internet connectivity in a hotel is on par with working plumbing, a clean room, and working locks. It’s not some esoteric, ‘far out’, feature that sparkles and shines such that people read«Wifi» and say«ooooo, I wonder what that’s like? I’ll never be cool enough to use that fancy feature.» No, internet is like a utility — phone, plumbing, electricity, etc. For a business traveler, the hotel’s value proposition is largely impacted by reliable, usable internet access. So, you can probably see where this is going. For two nights, I wrestled, fruitlessly, with a clunky, slow internet connection. I finally ran a speed check, and download speed was a mere 0.03 Mbps. The onsite management basically shrugged; tried to sympathize by acknowledging it was slow for them, too; and, blame it on a tornado that passed through … 5 days prior.(There was no obvious damage to anything in the area from a devastating tornado. Not that that matters. It was clearly an insultingly lame comment to brush me off.) Oh yeah, she suggested that I go and find a wifi network at a nearby McDonalds, and looked confused when I said that camping out a McDonalds probably wasn’t going to work for my work. I called the hotel’s wifi vendor, and they could do nothing. So, I lost two nights of work, because this hotel can’t keep a steady, usable internet speed for its guests, and their problem solving/customer service left much to be desired. Yes, I’m very unhappy, despite being a Hilton Honor member. So, now the other annoying stuff becomes more annoying. The housekeeper forgot to replace my bath mat, moved a personal item from a hanger that I had placed it on, and didn’t replace the soap that I had used the first day. The newspaper that was there the first morning, wasn’t there the second. Two hours after I called the front desk to extend my check out by the standard ‘1 hour’, she calls me back to interrogate me as to why I hadn’t checked out(because I still had an hour to go, per our agreement), and snottily said she’d let housekeeping know. Oh yeah, the elevator is super slow, and the treadmill in the exercise room was a good model but clearly tired, and the pool was closed for construction but there was no construction set up in the pool area. Stupid stuff, that would have otherwise gone unnoticed. This is one of the more expensive Hamptons in the KC area, but it feels like management is cheaping out. Hilton is getting besmirched by this Scrooge-management.

Great hotel as always. On the west outskirts of Kansas City and plenty of shopping and restaurants nearby.
