I went here for brunch this afternoon and it was awful. The server forgot to put in our order and we spent over an hour there just waiting. The manager finally came over and apologized and said our meal would be at their expense which is nice. The server spilled water all over the table and me, dropped my fries on the floor, and didn’t even apologize for anything. I worked as a server and a bartender for a long time and know how it goes on a Sunday brunch. Doesn’t give anybody the excuse to not apologize for messing up. Pretty bummed this was the experience I had my first time there.

Went there last night for my second time. Great food, great service, very cool and nice place to hang out. I had the hanger steak cooked med-rare. It was just perfect. The vegetable selections are great. The wait staff was top notch. The only thing I don’t like about going to the plaza for dinner is that the parking is terrible and there still seems to be quite a bit of «urban youth» just loitering and waiting to cause trouble. Tip: Grab an order of the pig wings and creamed Brussels sprouts for a snack. You’ll thank me later!

I can’t decide if this place is romantic or is setting the mood for sleepy time. It is «can’t see the details of your dining partner’s face» dark in here! I had to tap my other senses to make it through this meal… like sound. Forget reading the menu, I pretty much asked the waiter to choose my meal for me. He told me a story of how the Burnt End Mac and Cheese becomes a dish and it sounded like something I had to have. He also suggested the Asian Pig Wings to start. Pig wings… that’s a funny name. They were fantastic. Tender juicy pork with a soy glaze that was sweet, salty, and crispy. The portions were huge! Someone, not me because I eat too much, could totally have this as a meal. This was the best savory item we had here. My Burnt End Mac and Cheese was good, but not great. When eaten together in one bite(burnt end, mac & cheese, and pickle) it was better than when the items were eaten by themselves. I had a couple bites of the Double Pork Chop which was huge and served chicken fried style. Same issue as my dish. When you got a bite of the creamed Brussels Sprouts, fried crust, and bacon bits it was really good but eaten individually the items didn’t really stand out. We finished with the Gram & Dun Bar: chocolate mousse, ganache, peanut nougat, salted caramel, pretzel, peanut butter cup ice cream. It as described to us as a «house made snickers bar» which was a good but far too humble description of this amazing dessert. I could come back just to get this! Overall it was a good meal. The service was great, the space is «romantic», but the price to flavor ratio was not quite there. Oh, and I like how they brought the check in an old book you can graffiti up.

Food and drinks were delish. Been there 3 times and food is consistently yummy. The pork chop was amazing and the brussels sprouts flavored well with the chops. My husband had the hanger steak with sweet potatoes and we both truly enjoyed it. Service was also excellent.

The price is a massive turnoff. I paid what they requested, and tried the catfish, the short rib appetizer, the potato chips, the chicken and waffles, and the macaroni cheese and burnt ends. I have to say, it’s prepared well, but the flavor is severely lacking. Nothing too special, and certainly not worth what they charge. I believe I paid $ 16 for two catfish filets on a small pile of mashed potatoes, with some greens as mortar between the two, surrounded by a pepper butter sauce. Trust me, it sounds better than it is. The catfish wasn’t salted enough, and the potatoes are very smooth and creamed, much like fine dining, with a corn-breaded filet and greens. Seemingly rustic, but lacking that zing of southern cuisine. The Mac and cheese has to be $ 14 because the burnt ends, but quite honestly Noodles and Company make a better Mac and cheese — at around half the price. The short ribs were good, but lacking in the flavor department. The main contention here is, the price does not reflect the flavor. Did I enjoy myself there? Absolutely. Was the wait staff and ambiance superb? Absolutely. Did the food reflect the cost? Not at all. The chefs do great work, but the creator of the dishes has a damaged palate, and has perpetuated the lack flavor one dish after the other. It’s a shame too, because this restaurant has almost everything going for it. Try it and decide for yourself. I don’t think I will be returning, but it’s a fine restaurant if flavor is not your number one concern.

Tonight, day before Valentine’s Day had the price fix menu. Shared the sausage plate, kale and winter salad, crab gnocchi, pork chop and gram & dun dessert. Food was all prepared superbly. Drinks before hand were also well prepared by the skilled mixologist. Old fashion, and rotating whiskey concoction. The bar and wait staff were all knowledgeable, friendly, and most of all attentive. Why only the two stars? Where do I begin? Made a reservation on open table over two weeks in advance, set it as a calendar invite like most people do. This Tuesday during working hours when we all have better things to do, bread and butter concepts(proprietor of gram n dun among other establishments) called me to verify. Must be good customer service. Today I called ahead and asked if we could get in earlier than the 5PM reservation I had. Sure no problem was the response. Arrived around 4:15. Was told by the curly haired hipster hostess and bearded partner that we would have to wait till 4:30 to be seated and we could wait at the bar. No problem, except on the way to the bar, there were two separate couples sitting in separate booths enjoying libations, well before 4:30. We sit, wait and ponder. I go back up to the hipster host personnel and ask about being seated at 4:40. I am greeted by what I can call bewilderment. Must be surprised that they forgot. All the nice tables in the main dining room were taken. After negotiations because most of the window seating and booths are already taken we settle on a table. Dinner is fine service is great. On the way home tonight I get a call from one of the hosts asking about the total on the bill, because they can’t read my writing? This has happened a total of 0 times over years if not decades of dining out. Oh and by the way it was not even my bill they were asking about. Seriously. So disappointed that no establishment from bread and butter concepts will receive patronage from yours truly so long as I can help it.

Good brunch and sides. Brussels sprouts are delicious. I really wish they had more room during happy hour — it’s only available in a tiny corner of the patio and the little outdoor bar. Not enough room for groups.

So the family and I were down in KC visiting Great Wolf Lodge recently and decided to give Gram and Dun a shot. Hey, the water park was for the kids and dinner was for us. Anyway, we were pleased with our selection. The space itself was nice/cozy and felt inviting. Lighting was a bit dim for my taste but we could still see what we were eating. The waitstaff was great. For starters we had the French onion dumplings and the bread/jam/brie plate. The dumplings were supposed to be a deconstructed take on French onion soup. Failing to realize this, they were just ok. The bread however, was delicious and came with a raspberry jam and brie. For dinner my kids had the chicken and waffles. Wow, so good. The waffle was everything I wanted it to be. As for the chicken, the batter cooked up to a sexy brown color and the meat was juicy. The spices in the batter made for a flavorful crust. The icing on the cake, the chicken was boneless which made it easy to eat. My wife and I split the Jackson salad and the shrimp and grits. Both were good but each had a fair amount of acid in their flavor profile which was too much when paired together. For dessert we had the Gram and Dun bar, which came with a scoop of peanut butter cup ice cream. The is one of the better desserts I have had in a while. It was chocolatey and had great texture from the peanuts, reminiscent of a snickers bar. I also had bourbon and vodka cocktails, both were tasty. Overall we were impressed with Gram and Dun. Certainly a step up from the mediocre offerings that are commonplace at the plaza.

I have been here twice. The most recent time was during restaurant week. Our food was actually pretty good. Breakfast Appetizer– shareable Mac N Cheese w/Burnt Ends– I had this and I thought it was alright, not the best I’ve ever had and not the worst, just somewhere in the middle. I also had«the goat» salad — it was really good. I’d actually come back and order a full size Dessert– the grand and dunn bar and the PB&J Pie– we shared between the 4 of us. During this visit, we found the service lacking. It seemed like it took forever for our waiter to come back and refill drinks. Half of our group also had to sit in the glaring sunlight as there aren’t any window blinds/shades. I don’t remember what my friends had. My first visit here wasn’t that memorable. I know it was for brunch and I wasn’t that impressed. The pig wings(I think that’s what they were called). I shared as an appetizer and those were pretty good. (3.5 stars)

Came here for restaurant week with a group of 7. Drinks, food, and service were all awesome! The highlight was the breaded double pork chop. Usually i think of pork as kind of boring but I’d come back just for this, it blew my mind! It was a giant cut, bone in(two ribs) perfectly crispy on the outside but juicy and tender on the inside. Came with a delicious sauce underneath and creamed brussels on the side which were great too with big chunks of bacon. Ate every bite. It’s the day after and still reliving it in my head. In addition, started with the kale and brussels sprouts salad — good size appetizer portion, tasty vinaigrette, and not over dressed. Manchego and sunflower seeds added something extra. Dessert was alright — had the gram & dun bar, which even as a pb cup lover was good but nothing special. Overall, definitely a great place and would gladly go back again.

Highly recommend this place. Everything ordered in our party of 8 was delicious. Recommend the Hanger Steak(perfectly cooked, sweet potato side was creamy and crunchy) and the Pork Chop(brussels sprouts side is very flavorful). Even the green beans and pozole soup were yummy. The shishito pepper appetizer and salmon carpaccio were delicious. Back home shishito peppers are served with a little lemon squeezed on them, we added that ourselves and they were perfect. The gram & dun dessert is also a must, we found room for a couple bites because it was that good. Drinks were good too! Service: There was confusion with our reservation and the manager Dave was very helpful. We were visiting from out of town and he was very nice to get our two parties at one big table. Server Lauren was very patient and nice while everything was sorted out. Thank you!

I have been here twice now for brunch. The first time was in the summer and I sat outside with 3 friends. I ordered the BNB — biscuits and gravy, an egg, and breakfast potatoes. It was really delicious. The second time I sat inside with 2 friends. I ordered the short rib grilled cheese. It also was delicious! The brunches here are savory with huge portions and wonderful flavors. The service is friendly enough. Gram & Dun is my favorite brunch place in KC that I’ve been to so far. A great option on the plaza.

I have had some late drinks and a few meals here… one of which was with about 12 colleagues. Service is almost always good here. My favorite menu item so far is the Jackson salad. Grilled romaine lettuce is just heaven to me, and they do it right here. Plus this salad has artichoke hearts, bacon, and blue cheese. These are all home-run foods to me. A close second are the shrimp and grits. Those are not to be missed either!

Made a reservation for a Saturday night and arrived a bit early, but they kindly seated us at one of the tables lining the patio. These are great tables offering you views of the city scene and patio diners. The décor is nice, the chairs a little odd to me, but only for a moment and yeah, the service was great. We noted Cinder Block beer on tap and immediately ordered them along with some Asian Pig Wings as recommended by the waiter and many Unilocal reviews. When they came out, we were immediately impressed with the size and generous portions. The pork shank was perfectly roasted with a crispy exterior and moist meaty interior. The saké and soy glaze was deliciously paired with cilantro. Another round of drinks and we ordered entrees. The Double Pork Chop, is literally a double cut of pork chop and it’s lightly breaded with a nice seasoning. Once again this was cooked perfectly and delicious, but the star of this meal is by far the creamed Brussels sprouts with house-smoked bacon. I love roasted sprouts and along with the cream and bacon — amazing! We also ordered the Southern Quail which is pan seared and seasoned with celery and poppy seeds, a lemon vinaigrette, blistered cherry tomatoes and toasted ciabatta Finally, we had the Tot to share — yes, one tot, one really big tot that is certainly a novelty, but flavorful with steamy and fluffy shreds of potatoes with a Parmesan sauce for dipping. Wow!

If I were to just review the food, I would give it an absolute full 5 stars! However, the drinks were so so and it was a very loud atmosphere. Two of my friends got a margarita and it was probably the worst I’ve ever had. Given, it’s not a Mexican restaurant, however I feel like an upscale restaurant with great food should be accompanied by great drinks. I got a Pinot Noir wine and it wasn’t worth $ 10. However, I can rave about the food all day. I split the Pork Chop, and it was wonderful. It’s lightly breaded, and the side of creamy Brussels sprouts went so well with it. We also all shared a side of fries, and they were awesome. I tasted the Mac and cheese(so good) and their chicken dish(so good). So overall, I will definitely eat here again if I visit KC.

Was here for a work dinner and this place is never disappoints… Well maybe their signature drink could use some adjustment. I believe it is the smoking dun? Womp womp… I prefer the old fashioned except the old fashioned should be serviced with one block of ice, not with ice cubes. Anyways, starters were excellent… The mussels are great. They come with some bread and cooked in a yummy sauce. There was also some sausage in the mix too. There were some chips and also some pig wings, which were sooooo good. Definitely will order that again. For my entrée I had the jumbo scallops and the name don’t lie. Four jumbo scallops cooked very well and filled me up. There’s a really nice patio that is great for people watching and will be perfect to sit out on for brunch or HH. Must do if you’re in KC!
