Nice restaurant, but a little pricey for the food. Nice atmosphere and the staff is the friendliest and most polite of any place I’ve ever been. The food was about average though.

Always a great meal! I usually order the ribs which I find simply delicious. The staff is always great and we always have a great time!

Houstons has always been a favorite, but we hadn’t been in a very long time. We lucked out on a Friday night and found ourselves with only a 20 minute wait! We enjoyed a cocktail in the bar; a nice atmosphere to even enjoy dinner if you don’t want to wait for a table. I can’t come to Houstns and not get the Hawaiian Steak, it’s still sooooo good. And you might as well throw in the loaded baked potato; they do it up just right. Hubby had a burger and fries, which was equally as good. We enjoyed a fabulous dinner — excellent service and the consistent food quality that we have come to expect at Houstons. We had a slight problem with one of our dishes, but the server and the manager we’re quick to remedy the situation. First class service + food + atmosphere = greet evening out!

I’ve been eating at Houston’s my whole life. I grew-up just a couple of blocks from the one on 95th street, and also would eat at Houston’s in California during school whenever I was homesick and wanted a recognizable spot to really go. It’s among the few chain restaurants I am going to eat at. They have excellent food, attentive service, and consistent quality. One of my favourite dishes is the Ahi Tuna Salad and most definitely don’t pass-up the Three Nut Brownie!

This place never disappoints. My favorite place for a Salty Dog with Fresh squeezed Grapefruit juice. The BBQ ribs have been on the menu forever and still as good as ever. The Trout, the AHI Tuna Salad, the Spinach and Artichoke Dip. The PRIMERIB is AWESOME. The place to go and know you will always get a fantastic meal. I can’t say enough good things about this place.

I’ve been here 20+ times and always love the food and atmosphere. My favorites include: the house salad, the artichoke app, steak, pork chop and the drinks. Warning: the house salad is a meal in itself(bacon, croutons, egg, chopped finely).

The perfect chain restaurant! This place gets it. The food, the service, the drinks… everything is near perfect. Houston’s is home to the best: — French Dip –Baked potatoes –Spin dip –Margaritas(trust me!) –Veggie burger –Shoestring fries –Brownies –Cold noodle salad If I could, I would eat here .

Food 5⁄5 Spinach and artichoke dip is a must have. Bone in Prime rib was cooked to perfection. Loaded baked potato was fully loaded. The biggest potato I’ve ever had. Service 5⁄5 Service was excellent. Our waitress was really attentive.

I love good ol’ American food and that is what Houston’s offers. My favorite item/obsession is the hickory burger, which is piled with freshly grated cheddar. I am slightly disappointed that they swapped the Canadian bacon for, um, American bacon, but I could imagine a lot of simple minds just asking for a bacon cheeseburger and servers getting sick of it. The spin dip is a classic. Though the service is cold and aloof, it has always been efficient.

Date night with the wife and couldn’t have gone any better! Hadn’t been there in awhile but it was as good as we remembered. I had salad and my wife had veggie plate– after spinach and artichoke dip. The food was outstanding. Our waitress Sidney(36) was on her game! We will be back soon! I think Houston’s may still be the best Plaza has to offer!

Our waitress Hanna is very kind, considerate and very accommodating. Love her attention to detail. We ordered rotisserie Chicken, sashimi tuna salad, all were fantastic.

The ambiance of this place is great. Nice large booths, dim lighting, exposed brick walls. We sat in the bar area and it was cozy-this is the reason for my three stars. The problem with Houston’s is that there is not enough selection on their menu. With only about 12 items to choose from, it would be easy for someone to not find anything they want to eat on the list. I ordered fish and it was ok, but forgettable. I also had a floater in my wine and wanted to send it back, but couldn’t track the waitress down to do so.

We weren’t all that impressed. Way over priced tourist trap is really all it is. After a bad experience at Buca Di Beppo, we had to find a place to eat. We came here having no idea what it was. Food was ok, nothing to write home about. Portions were small, and it cost the 4 of us(2 adults, 2 kids) 100 bucks for the 4 burgers plates we had. Was loud, crowded, very dim lighting, and we just were not impressed, and we don’t see why they were so over priced for sub par food. Don’t think we’ll be back. So far every single eatery we have been to in Kansas City when we’ve gone up there has royally sucked on ice.

Houston’s, we have a problem. The nostalgia of visiting Houston’s when I was younger, coupled with the fact that I hadn’t seen the Plaza lights yet this winter had me on a mission to get here with my wife for a Christmas week dinner out. We made our reservation a week in advance and weaved through all the folks out and about to get seated. We walked into a swarm of unhappy looking people donning coats and jockeying for position near the host stand. We confidently made our way up since we had a reservation only to find out that they didn’t hold a table for us and it might be a little while. Once again, as Seinfeld says, «Anyone can just take a reservation. it’s the reserving part that’s the most important!» We watched as other patrons tried to charm their way to a table and soon became a part of the coat wearing, impatient mob that surrounded us. Ten minutes go by, I’m wondering does Blvd Tavern have an open table? Their menu sounds better. Twenty minutes go by, I start considering all options. On and on and I realize this date night might wind up with some burgers and tots at Winstead’s. The hostess has a smile throughout but it has to be so tough on her to have a bunch of scowling faces not getting sat and nothing she could do about it. I felt for her, but also wish they’d handled it all differently. I finally go up to her because as much as I hate it, squeaky wheels get the grease in these situations and she finds us a table. I’m craving a winter cocktail and ask to see the list and the server says, «We don’t have one.» Alrighty. The manager Bryan comes by and apologizes and offers us a free appetizer or something to smooth it over and we take him up on it. Only problem? He doesn’t relay this to our server and it still shows up awkwardly on our bill. Booo. I order the«Flying Chicken Platter,» craving something like this before the holiday hams and mashed potatoes take charge over Christmas. It’s basically $ 20 for a kids meal of bland chicken tenders and a small helping of fries. This could’ve been Applebee’s and I wouldn’t have known. As with so many chains, the food was… OK. I can’t help but think it could be better, well frankly because it could. My wife got a Prime Rib sandwich she remembered being really good and it was fine. Tasted like Panera, but again for a threefold price tag. So all in all, it was a hectic chain restaurant experience and disappointing. It happens, we didn’t let it ruin the night and took a stroll around the Plaza afterwards. Next time up I’ll turn nostalgia on it’s head and go with the locally owned Blvd Tavern or Standard Pour for a creative twist on a classic American menu.

First off. Here is the reason for the drop to 3 stars. I live hours from KC and was in town with my wife to see the Chiefs game. I called the restaurant 2 weeks before the night and asked if they took reservations. They said definitely. I made one for the date. It was confirmed and I hung up. Flash forward to the night. Me and my wife walk in 10 minutes before our reservation. The place is packed to the gills with at least 6 – 8 couples waiting and who knows how many others in the bar. I approach the host and give my name and time. She verified it in her computer and told me it would be «just a moment». No other comment was made. We wait 15 minutes. While they seat 4 tables of people in front of us. I finally walk up to the host and inquire if there is a problem. She says all the reservation does is give you express seating. I was shocked. And as I am speaking with the host I see the seating list of names in order. I am still 4 tables back in the order! I took a deep breath and voiced my complaint. Strongly. We had been waiting over 30 minutes by this time. 20 past our reservation. And we’re still 4 tables back from being seated. We were seated next. We should have left. It was horrible customer service. No one said a word about their«policy» until I started complaining. But my wife had her heart set on the spinach dip and it was late. By the way, no stop by of management or an apology from anyone. I ordered the Hawaiian ribeye. And my wife ordered the prime rib. Hers was wonderful. Mine was ok. Great cut, cooked correctly and tender but the marinate was basically teriyaki sauce. I expected more. The spinach dip was great. Dropped $ 150 on 2 steaks with baked potatoes. 3 glasses of $ 12 Pinot And spinach dip. Little pricey for what you get. I’d go back for lunch. But other places will get my dinner business from now on. Ones that take reservations.

Their black bean burger was the best I’ve ever eaten! My side was an amazing spaghetti squash with marinara sauce. The restaurant was bustling with customers when we are there on a Sunday afternoon, but the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable, with friendly wait staff and good music playing. We visit Kansas City often, and coming back to eat at Houston’s is high on our list when we return.

OK, so let me start out by explaining that my fiancé and I are key lime pie connoisseurs, or at least we seem to be headed in that direction. We came here because we were told the key lime pie was delish, and it was, but I suppose I just committed the cardinal sin of going straight to dessert, huh? So, let’s back up. This is a great place for date night on the plaza. It’s a bit dark for my taste, but that’s all good on date night, right? We ordered some chicken tenders, also highly recommended. They were delish, but not sure I was impressed as so many others have been. They seemed a bit bland. It was Friday, so I decided the clam chowder needed in my belly. It was really good! I then had the tuna for my entrée, and it was delicious. My fiancé had the filet with a side of mashed potatoes — he enjoyed every single bite and said the steak was cooked to perfection. Our service was also quite good.

I liked the atmosphere, the service, the food, and the drinks at Houston’s. There were candles on the tables, elegant music was playing, and the dark-paneled interior was classy. There was good lighting, and intimate seating at the tables. I was surprised at how the noise level at this busy restaurant did not impede the dinner conversation. The team approach to service was quick, and attentive. My ribs were nicely flavored, and the baked beans were a great substitute for the fries. The wine selection was minimal, but very good. Overall, I had an excellent experience.

Houston’s, class radiates when you enter the door. Nice bar to the left, dimly lit dining area to the right. We’ve eaten here dozens of times, and everything is always spot on, from the prompt, knowledgeable wait staff, to the well portioned, delicious entrees. The only thing to talk about is the food not mentioned on the menu, the lightly breaded, tasty chicken fingers and shoestring fries. Two sides of honey mustard and my kids and myself are in finger licking good heaven. We love the place, the seafood, steaks and all are equally good, but the chicken fingers are what separates this place for my kids. Looking for a nice place to grab great foods, head to Houston’s, but I suggest you get there early, as they are known for hour plus waits… good luck and good eating…

So Houstons has been a long time favorite of mine for years. I had not been there in a while and decided to go there on my birthday… what a treat! The restaurant has a quiet romantic candlelight atmosphere, perfect for a date night out. Beautiful brick and wood interior. There is an intimate dinning side as well as bar side. Our service was fantastic. Someone was frequently walking by to refill our drinks or clean our table. All the wait staff seem to help each other out. Our appetizer, the Chicago style spinach dip, was delicious! My husband and I both enjoyed the Hickory burger with a side of fries. And of course for my birthday I had to grab a piece of their amazing brownie topped with nuts and ice cream. While there was a slight delay in getting our main course out, the overall experience was fantastic! What puts this restaurant out above the rest is the friendly staff. The manager Jared came over to our table to appoligize for the food delay and stated that our entire bill was covered. How often does that happen? What a gracious gesture to ensure customer satisfaction!
