DISAPPOINTING! We made a reservation on Open Table. The food was nothing to cheer about, tasted frozen or prepared for quite some time and microwaved, sauce too sweet, dinner brought to the table in the middle of salad, sour dough bread with olive oil dipping sauce seemed a odd choice. Service was poor, our waiter sure was not in the mood to work that evening. Wrote a review on Open Table, saying the same thing, the restaurant cancelled the reservation(days later after the fact) effictevely removing the negative review and my dining points. I guess this is how they found to deal with negative reviews.

First, the hostess and my server were awesome. The server was attentive and tried his best to make the meal right. He didn’t bring me a check, but I still tipped him. I ordered the pasta carbonara, which looked lovely, but turned out to be extremely bland. A good carbonara should have a rich sauce, but this sauce felt greasy. After a few bites, I couldn’t eat anymore. Our server immediately took it back. As my replacement meal I ordered spaghetti with meatballs. When it was brought out I could see the sauce was watery. The meatballs were watery and bland. I had already put the server through enough so I told him not to worry about it. But he saw I only had a few bites, so he didn’t charge me. My friend ordered the ravioli, which were average. The pasta was a bit chewy but the flavor was good. As a note to their webmaster: Before going to Accurso’s I checked out the online menu and saw a $ 5 lunch special including a salad and entrée. But when I arrived, the lunch deal was $ 6.99 and only included an entrée. Actually, the normal nav of their website is updated with the new special, but the Google search result links still take you to the old lunch special which is still a live page. The place was packed but I did notice no one else seemed to be ordering the pasta, so their other lunch specials must be pretty good. First time here, won’t be back. The service was the saving grace.

Went here last week with an Open Table gift check. Excited to go to the new location. This used to be our go to Italian. The new building in nice and the inside is pretty, very upscale. We made a reservation on Open Table. The food was nothing to cheer about, sauce too sweet, dinner brought to the table in the middle of salad, sour dough bread with olive oil dipping sauce? Service was poor. There were only two tables to serve. Wrote a review on Open Table, saying the same thing. Acruso’s cancelled the reservation to make sure the review did not show up! Now the dinner was made even worse.

We came here for lunch on a Monday. Pretty empty with all the employees just standing around and looking at each other. Honestly, it felt depressing and desperate. We were nicely greeted and the waiter seemed friendly enough but once I got a look at the menu, I knew we would not be staying. Everything is $ 6.99, which is very weird for an upscale Italian restaurant. The selection is weird, too. Everything from grouper sandwiches(which have to be frozen because grouper is not this cheap and is also endangered) to odd pastas with things like pistachios in the sauce. Anyway, we left and had great meal down the street instead.

Friendly staff greeted us during Saturday around lunch time. The place was empty except for 1 other person sitting at the bar. We decided to sit at the bar also since we were only have appetizers and drinks. The bartender was very friendly and informative about their extensive wine selection. We both went with selections from Tuscany and decided to share the bruschetta. The wine was excellent, and at a fair price for the high quality. I have a chianti reserva for $ 12 per glass. The bruschetta was excellent also. The balsamic reduction drizzle was very tasty. I would come back just for it!

Service was good, atmosphere was nice, but the food was flat out bad. The lettuce in the salad was starting to wilt. My companion had the Italian Steak Parmesan(actually pork tenderloin); it was dry and over-done. I ordered their signature dish, the braised veal — «8 hour Chianti braised shank». I was expecting something akin to Osso Bucco; moist, tender, fall off the bone. The actual dish was ¾ inch chunks of dry, tough meat with more fat and gristle than edible meat. The side, Parmesan Risotto, was good and was about the only thing on the plate I ate As a side note, at 8:30 on a Thursday night, we were the only table of customers in the restaurant. We were vacationing in KC and not familiar with the restaurant, relying on on-line reviews. Pretty obvious that the Local’s knew better than to eat here.

Really gone downhill. For example they have cancelled the $ 5 lunch menu. Lunch has gotten quite pricey. One of our favorite dishes the pasta devolo, the sauce has gone from thick and tasty too thin and bland. My son ordered potato nokey and got a plate fall of mush. I ordered carbonara and got almost no creamy sauce. The bread appeared to be a little stale. Bottom line we will not be going back to a restaurant which in the past has been one of our favorite lunch destinations.

As I have only dined here twice, I can’t say this will always be a 3⁄5 Italian restaurant. However, the first time I ate here, the sandwich I ate was tasty but too expensive. On the other hand, they provide large portions of all the items on the menu. I ordered a baked pasta my second visit & I did enjoy my meal; but, again for me, the prices are too high relative to the quality of the food. The bar is quite nice & casual at the same time! I have always had nice service when I dined at Accurso’s. I almost wish they would have never remodeled and stayed a simple Italian sandwich place? I will definitely eat here again though.

My wife and I were able to get a reservation for Valentine’s Day. I wasn’t sure what to expect from Accurso’s so I wasn’t really disappointed, but I wasn’t wowed either. They had a limited menu for the evening with 5 courses. Much more food than we would normally eat and pricey because of all the courses. We don’t normally order an appetizer AND desert. We would go back, but would not jump through hoops. Friendly staff.

Oh I could bore you with the Makers Mark Steak or their great menu or interesting mashed potatoes with a kick… but let’s be serious. .Grandmother Mimi’s Cheesecake. I have not liked cheesecakes because they resemble yellow bricks, until Now. Grandmother Mimi’s Cheesecake is not to be missed. It is light and fluffy and with the graham cracker crust it is always worth coming back for.

Went for drinks and waited over 30 minutes after ordering the drinks. The drinks were definitely not worth the wait either. Very watery and warm.

I hit Accurso’s for lunch one day. I called ahead and arrived before they said my food would be ready and I was set to checkout right when I go there. I ordered the chicken club sandwich and toasted Ravioli’s. These ravioli’s were the best I’ve had so far and I usually always get t-ravs when I have the chance. They were cheese filled, which I’m more of a beef rav guy but the cheese filling was really stellar. The prices are right and the chicken club was also really good. The chicken and bacon were cooked perfect, not overdone and the bacon wasn’t quite crispy but not soft enough that you couldn’t chomp it into pieces. The chips that were served with the sandwich were thin slices of potatoes cooked just enough to give them that slightly burnt taste but not to much that you thought they were accidentally burnt. In other words, amaze balls. While i got my order to go I did spend a short time inside where I noticed the nice décor and classiness of the restaurant. The prices are cheap and the environment is classy. A cool place that I will hopefully return to soon!

I really love Italian food. Probably more than I should. Unfortunately, this restaurant just doesn’t deliver the luscious flavors I’m looking for when I go to an Italian restaurant. The red sauce is the most bland I have ever had. Where’s the fresh garlic? How about a bit of basil and oregano? Maybe they’ve dumbed down the food for the masses, but they’ve gone wayyyy too far. Our service was kinda tolerable, but I wouldn’t say it was good. Food was a bit slow in arriving, our waitress seemed a tad depressed and was unapologetic about the slow service. The bus person was actually very friendly and chatty, though. Sadly, the food and service were a big enough«miss» that I don’t feel any reason to return.

It was hard to decide how to rate this restaurant. The food is great, usually. The service is sometimes a little uppity, but I can deal with that. The last time I was there, all three of us ate the toasted ravioli, chicken fettuccine alfredo and side salads. Now, when you offer a starter salad with someone’s meal, you may want to make sure the salad is not so huge that no one can actually eat their meal. It was ridiculously big. We enjoyed sitting out on the patio and chatting. I got a cannoli to go. NEVERAGAIN. I took it home, less than a 15 minute drive, put it straight in the fridge. Later, I was hungry. The cannoli was curdled and tasted so sour I was afraid of getting food poisoning. It went straight into the trash.

So I’ve been here for lunch and it was finally time for me to get here for dinner too. Had a waiter who was quite knowledgeable about wines who managed to let me sample another wine of the same region after I had ordered a bottle. Elliott was friendly and charming. Also had someone(one of the staff?) playing spanish guitar. He played a tune I recogized called«Leyenda» by Albeniz(via Segovia). While I didn’t expect to hear Spanish guitar in an Italian restaurant, I didn’t fight it :-)

I really want this place to do well, because it’s in my neighborhood… but the dinner they served tonight was low grade dog food(«low grade dog food…» Caddie Shack)…the Chicken Parm was warmed in a microwave… so how do I know… my son is a chief at a restruarant that is top 10 in the nation… and he has taught me… anything THATHOT comes from a microwave… This is below standard, and it’s not a fair to not share…

It has been several months since my first(and last) visit to Accurso’s. It was late on a Friday evening and we had been downtown at First Fridays in the Crossroads. We tried to go to Westside Local, but the wait time was ridiculous. As we are Brooksiders, we decided to head homeward and find something along the way. We drove down Main, saw the new Accurso’s location and decided to give it a try. There was no wait(red flag #1). Then, as I stepped off the rug at the entrance and started making my way to our table, my feet practically slid out from under me! The floor was SOSLICK, like it had been mopped with grease. The next couple through the door — a well-dressed elderly couple — had the same issue. The lady started to fall and had to steady herself on her husband’s arm. Things didn’t get any better from there. The drunk couple at the table next to us were making fools of themselves, in a room of otherwise reserved clientele. The garlic bread was limp, soaked in butter. My chicken parmesan arrived burnt and my date’s food was mediocre at best. Like one of the other reviewers said, I opted not to leave with my mostly-untouched entrée. We won’t go back. We WILL, however, go down the street to il Centro any time! It’s by far one of the best Italian dining experiences we’ve had — outside of the meals made in our own kitchen, or by my Italian father-in-law. Accurso’s. Fail.

Hubby & I wanted to avoid rush hour traffic after an appointment on the Plaza ran late, so we called Sis and met her at Accurso’s Restaurant for an early dinner(5:10 p.m.) I love the space which is part glitz with glittery pictures on the wall and hand blown light fixtures and part old-fashioned family charm with a whole wall filled with pictures of various Accurso family members from the past and present. We’ve eaten here many times since they moved to the newer space a few years ago. The service is always good and I love the open window walls that bring the great eclectic Main Street neighborhood within sight. During Christmas time, they have the whole railing which encloses the outdoor seating area beautifully decorated with crystal beads and white fairy lights and baskets of velvet red poinsettias. Even with some heaters, it was really too nippy to sit outside but very pretty and festive none the less. The crowning touch of the evening was the pleasant and talented trio playing music of the season while we enjoyed our meal. I’ve left the mention of the food for last in this review because, to me, it is the weakest part of the Accurso’s experience. And it pains me to have to say this because I know they are capable of doing some things exceptionally well. I’ve had a few things that were outstanding. But many more dishes that I just wanted to be so much better than they turned out to be. The Mary’s Chicken Modega that I ordered this evening was an example of this. Described on the menu as Charbroiled chicken breast topped with mozzarella and lemon mushroom sauce. It was quite tender and moist, which was pleasing. But I found the lemon sauce to be heavy on the sauce(that was thickened with too much corn starch or perhaps another thickener) and way too light on lemon flavor. My entrée was also served with a side of spaghetti and red sauce that was good, but served in a small bowl that I had trouble eating from(my problem, not the restaurant’s). Hubby, who is always on a quest for a perfect lasagna, said that the meat sauce covering his lasagna was sweeter than he likes and that the meatball was very bland. Sis chose a plate of fettuccine from the $ 10 entrée menu and commented after hearing Hubby’s opinion that she generally avoids the red sauce but loves the Alfredo sauce dishes. I tend to agree, as I have had several very nice Fettuccine Alfredo dishes on past visits — most often paired with chicken or with shrimp or salmon. And I did enjoy them very much. I’m still going to visit Accurso’s lovely restaurant space every once in a while, but I sometimes wish the kitchen could always live up to the challenge and make this the best Italian place on this part of Main Street. It deserves to be… so I’ll keep visiting and keep hoping.
